Go 1gb for sure. They are known to get better fps.

Ok cool. This still isn't a final decision lol.

Still unsure on one of those or waiting to see what the prices are like for the upcoming Palit and Asus 4870x2's.

You gunna sell the 2900? =P

This one is probably going into my wife's compy. That is up for negotiation tho.

waiting a bit pretty much not gonna happen. I've been waiting for a while already now and I have to turn the settings way down on Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3 to play them.

Thats interesting all though i play Fallout 3 at 1600x1200 res just AA is turned off.

Anyways i say 4850 x2 and MAYBE add your own fans to it :P. Personly think it be better waiting for the next like the 58xx range..

the GF260 is tempting to as the lower price.

1GB for sure, either 4870 or 4850 is a for sure bet. that 4850x2 is just too much right now.

Maybe that was just Far Cry 2. I haven't really gotten into Fallout 3 yet. Just escaped from the vault.

the 48070x2 palit is good but idk why you have to get the triple slot cooler =/

I would prefer a non-reference card. The newly announced Asus is also in the running.

doing a single 4870 is still sitting in the back of my mind...

Ding..Ding..Ding ! ....we have a winner :)

My vote ...4870 1GB version ...or if you prefer to go the Nvidia route...a GTX 260 Core 216.

Either way you can't fail....;)

*+

Thinking of going with a single 4870.

What do you guys think between the Visiontek and the Sapphire:

Sapphire

Visiontek

Or up to the 1gb version of the Sapphire

IMHO avoid sapphire, most of their cards are lower quility then other brands in my experiance they are very hit and miss on products that arent uniq to them(like the 4850x2 would probby be good quility)

I like palit, his, powercolor, asus, msi and some other brands but i avoid sapphire like the plauge, to many cards i have had to return and wait MONTHS for the rma to clear.

4870 1gb if you want power now and options later, 4870x2 now if you want most powerfull card you can get.

may even want to consider 4850x2 and an asus physx card(pci-e) then you would have the benifits of physx and ati gfx :) (the gtx260 and 280 do cheat, i have seen it in some games/benches as explained stuff dissapears where it dosnt dissapear when its on anybody elses cards.

typical nvidia, if u cant win by playing by the rules, change the rules(Cheat) :/

8800gts 512mb here so dont think i hate nvidia, i just dont like some of the dirty shit they pull :/ (example dx10.1 dissable patch for assassins creede.....)

Sapphire Released a Dual Slot 4850 and that is good, i dunno about you but their support is far superior to that of HIS.

duno, never had problems with his support, then again i dont tend to have problems with most companys support, even biostar, foxconn and ecs have given me excelent support.

i had a Runin with HIS, took them 2 weeks for them just to reply to me, where Sapphire took just a day (since the support was directly from HK- their time is way ahead compared to US)

my 2900pro card was from Sapphire and didn't have any issues with it. Thus, i didn't have to use their customer service.

I dunno most tech support is pretty decent, my con would be warranty, most offer 2 years, whereas diamond and visiontek offer lifetime if I'm correct,

besides 4850 1gb with gddr4 is coming down the pipe soon, can't wait to see all the gddr4 variants get pushed out. would just drop the price of the ones that are already out.

I don't see why people think that a triple slot cooler is bad.....

How many people run X2 cards in pairs?

Also with a 790FX or motherboards with 3 or more PCI-E slots can still run two of these cards at the same time.

I find it funny you say that about Sapphire; when they like PALiT build all the cards for everyone else......sticker cards are all the same.

Maybe they believe that octo-crossfire rumor... XD

AMD could do that now if they wanted to....there is a reason they are not.

I bet it has to do with it working slow over the buss. (My own personal guess).....Also a reason why CF does not work on N chipsets.....that they could make it work at anytime.

Stupid Company Politics I swear it's just like big government.

4870x2 temps get to 60C max after 5 hours under load @ 40% fan speed... The noise isn't bad, and the clocks can be set at 800/1000. I'm speaking of a reference type. I don't understand why people want a tripple slot cooler when they end up bleeding all the heat into their case

You couldn't be more correct man. Sapphire is one of those companies that you can trust. They can also be hardasses when it comes to defects because they've been scammed before. I'm pretty sure they closed down their forum support because of an excess # of trolls/scammers. Despite all of the "bad" things I've heard about their customer service I spoke with a sales representative of theirs around the time 4870 were coming out and they let me know where I could buy them since I was really enthusiastic after my purchase of a Sapphire 3870. That was an awesome buy, it OCed to 850/1110 :D

I'm jazzed. I feel good about the decision since I stayed within my allotted cash reserve and got everything i needed for both computers.

That's a good thing. When I don't buy top end I always feel that something is wrong......

Because I always will want that higher end part, and I just can't seem to let it go. It sucks, and I'm glad you can feel good about not going all the way in.

To be honest I would ripe off the cooler and install a water block. Then tweak the non ref with a V-mod and scream!

Every non reference palit card I have seen with a vmod fly's.

yah, there's that voice in yer head that wants you to go balls out. This way, i really didn't have any out of pocket expense as the money i had earmarked was from selling other stuff.
