Does anyone have a very accurate Instructions list on a Pentium 4.
I seen some cpu-z with SSE2, and it ends with that, but others i seen more Instructions with it. I am thinking about buying a Pentium 4, and want full detail on what comes with it. I do want SSE2. But what else?

And DO NOT buy a P4. They suck balls. I would save some money up and get a Biostar 790GX + Phenom II 920!

I made a thread on this forum a while back how i was going to buy a Intel Pentium Dual Core. However, that has change recently and i am still going to buy a Pentium 4. SSE2, and SSE3 is what i wanted, thanks.

And just so you know, i only deal with Gateway/Intel products, sorry :)
Peace

Can I ask why you would limit yourself to those choices. Gateway?

Why in the name of god would you want to buy a P4 ?

If you want a cheap system, get a Celeron Dual Core E1200 and a cheap motherboard - And run circles around nearly all P4s for less power and heat.

Or get a slightly better motherboard, and overclock that thing. I ran an E1200 at 3.15Ghz on the Abit I-N73HD motherboard.

DO. NOT. BUY. A. P4.

I have a question for you, but to answer your question first, well this computer which i am using now, i have been using since 2000, i bought it from gateway and it has a Intel Motherboard(810/828210) and i figure its been working so wonderful, why not continue to use gateway/Intel products. The only thing which i don't like about gateway, their products are expensive. Other then that, great combo, never had any issues with them, so i will continue to use them. :) :rockout:

Oh and my question, you like knight rider, do you enjoy the games?

Or you could build it yourself for half the price and get higher quality parts

Gateway has changed a bunch since 2000, though I have limited experience with them. I'm in the belief that whatever you are comfortable with and whatever works for you is what you should go with. I loved KITT as a child, though the shows kinda suck. Never played a KR game though.

Thats what people keep telling me, but i gather their products are the same.

Thanks. I know that a Pentium 4, hell my P3 is old haha, but old hardware get the job done, so if i do decide to buy a Pentium 4, i shouldn't have any trouble playing games and my game performance from my P3 should increase big time.

However anything can change, whenever i do go out and finally buy my secondary computer. I will cross that bridge once i go out and buy it. But there is a 95% chance i will buy it. However, there is also a chance i will just buy one , a new one from the retail store, at bestbuy. But at the moment i am not buying anything, just wanted to know about the instructions for it. :)

The new series on NBC is coming back next week, very cheesy , but fun to watch and plenty of hot babes. The games are fun tho, part II they upgraded the graphics and gameplay , your car now has weapons. You can find some videos over at youtube.

peace

I don't build computers, i buy them prebuilt.

come on man. it's not hard... I was building computers when I was 13 or 14, it's not hard. If you put your own computer togeather you would have a much higher quality computer for the same price, trust me.

MAN!

Don't buy a pre-built!

btw if you're thinking that P4's are better because they have a high clock frequency, that's totally wrong. An AMD Athlon64 x2 3800+ would totally whack any p4. The 3800+ runs at a clockspeed of 2GHz.

This thread is full of fail.

I'm sorry but it is.

Case and point: I was batch converting some WMA files on my 3.2Ghz P4 fileserver and got bored with waiting for it to finish... the time it took to transfer 8500 songs to my external HDD, copy them to my 3.6GHz C2Q desktop, convert them, copy back to the external HDD, and load them into the server was I swear to god like 10x faster than just waiting.

The P4 was converting files at about 4.5-6x speed in iTunes, my Q6600 at 3.6GHz was converting at about 55x speed and it was only utilizing two cores.

If you still want a P4 you are being silly. Plain and simple. The end.

Wow, that's some speed increase! I've got a 2.8GHz Northwood core P4 o/c to 3.5GHz and it's quite a bit slower than my ageing s939 Athlon 64X2 in games. I look forward to upgrading my CPU this year. :)

Wasn't the P4's instruction set SSE SSE2 and later on SSE3 ? I am not sure but I think that SSE3 was a on P4 first then migrated over to C2D . But I am not sure .

SSE3 instruction set first appeared on the s478 P4 prescotts back in early 2004

OK cool then . I know that it took some time for AMD to put SSE3 on there CPU's that is all I could remember .

I gotta agree, I started when I was 11 and I remember I had a P4 4.8Ghz and I got a E2160 and just 1 core at stock outperformed it, not even both and I got that cpu for 40 bucks like 2 years ago, you can do it, you can build a pc.

but if you don't agree, hey, its your money.

Duh, yeah - I've got the P4 and the Athlon. :) The P4's still run nicely for ordinary, boring office tasks though...

Reading this thread I can't help myself and say please dear god don't get the p4. Getting a core 2 would save power and provide better performance for less.

Yeah I have to sincerely agree with you here .
