Crytek has announced that CryENGINE 3 is ready and will be on display from March 25th to March 27th at this year's Game Developers Conference or GDC Expo in San Francisco. In contrast to the previous engine, CryENGINE 3 will support all major upcoming platforms as well as current platforms including the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, and PC's DX9/DX10. Carl Jones, director of business development, refused to give more information. He was very brief in his statement:
CryENGINE 3 is a revolutionary change from our previous PC-only engines - and we're applying a similar revolution to the service we provide to developers using the software to create extraordinary games. CryENGINE 3 will set the benchmark for complete game engine solutions in performance, and services to game engine licensees and their players. We've been preparing a long time for CryENGINE on consoles and we're confident that Crytek will again amaze developers at GDC.
Be prepared for additional info at the end of the month.

So is this going to make games look better and run on consoles :D

Nah. Games released on all platforms will always have worse graphics. Don't think there are any exceptions to that.

Race driver GRID? Afaik it runs smoothly on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC as well as looking nice (though theres a slight difference in tone between each platform).

i want see the games who use CryENGINE 3 look like

I want to see how games on cry3 play. Devs better not put out a mediocre game and hype the shit out of it.

Would be nice to see an amazing game on an amazing graphics engine for once, instead of sacrificing one or the other.

Wow, the engine is making its way to Consoles. Lets hope it looks about as good.:)

I really hope it does not! Consoles can hardly reproduce anything close to CryEngine2 and me, as a PC gamer, wants CE3 to be a huge improvement over CE2, not a dumbed down version of it. Unless by consoles they mean PS4/Xbox720, of course.

This is gonna suck. Cry2 is already one of the best looking engines and almost nothing can run it very well so how is Cry3 going to be any better? My guess is it's just going to be developed for the consoles because they are butthurt about their games getting pirated.

joy so its time for crysis2 the return of bordom.........*yawns*

and DarkMatter, the reality is that no games fully taken advantege of the pos3 or xbx360 yet, not that they are really that powerfull compared to a game pc, but they are capable of far more then we have see, hell the pos2 looked like ass for white a while b4 they even started to tap into its capabilitys(its still ass IMHO but at least it finnely matured)

Sarcasm ? I can run crysis on very high at 1920 x 1080.

Not everyone has the hardware to run at very high at 1920 dude.

What I see here is simple: "We're going to optimize the engine for consoles so it runs and looks great on them, and people with PC's will continue to have to hunt down custom config files for minimal performance improvements."

F consoles. they are a cancer on PC games.

Good going Crytek! Don't forget ATI optimization this time!

optimizations? what optimizations, this is crytek we are taking about...........their games are just ways to sell the engine to other companys :/

My system runs Warhead on mainstream at 1600 rez. If I go any higher in quality it runs chunky. They should fix the first engine before they go on to the next one.

Anyway this game will look like old salty balls. It will only look at good as the weakest console its being released on. :shadedshu

In the mean time, who wants to place bets over which of our Xbox 360s will overheat first?

CryEngine 3, now you'll only need 4gb GDDR5 and an Octacore processor to run decently. yay

I think the real money is in the Dunia engine which FarCry 2 was built on, i mean it looks amazing and runs incredibly well on a variety of systems.

Now if we can only get a good game built on it, GOTY material right there.

I don't want to start yet another PC vs consoles discussion, but to my eyes the PS2 didn't improve after the second year of its lifespan. Also I see no real improvement in the "nextgen" consoles since they were first released (after the first pos ones I mean). If we had to give numbers, we could say that the latest games have 75% better graphics, a level of improvement within the same hardware not reachable to PCs, because of how the industry works, but in the same time PC games evolved to a 500%. No matter what the respective companies say, at the end of the day the PS3 has a Geforce M 7900 GTX and the XB360 has the equivalent to a heavily underclocked X1900 and that is a hurdle they will never be able to overcome. A HD4870x2 or the GTX295 have 8x the power, no matter how you look at it, and by the time CE3 launches they will be mainstream cards. No, it's the current Graphics Cards which are not taken to their full potential, not even 1/4 of their true potential and as a PC gamer I wan't them to take those cards to their full potential in CE3. If the graphics in the consoles resemble to anything similar to the engine running in the PC, that would mean that the PC was FAR from being used properly. Me don't wants, thank you very much.

Actualy I was suggesting my now outdated system except the gpu can play crysis on very high at 1920 then why can't others at lower resolutions play it well.
