Using it right now at work. I like it a lot. It's too bad more companies don't make laptop style keyboards that are angled. I'm loving the way it sounds and how my hands lay on it. :rockout:

Binge linked me to a nice laptop style keyboard from Enermax, the Aurora (link), but i use multimedia features and can't seem to find a laptop style one with multimedia features. I wish they made mechanical laptop keyboards.

:) If at first you can't find your ideal board, try try again.

I really like the style here. The aurora is really clean cut, but like you said it offers very little beyond it's initial impression other than the use of scissor switches. They are very precise dome switches and they have a faint, but higher frequency sound than normal dome membrane because of all of the small hard plastic used in the construction of said scissor mechanism. Have you found them on retail or attempted to order one through Dell?

I've found that my Dell keyboards get a bit choppy (make heavy key presses) after a while. And if you drop them enough times, the keys stop working ^^.

Haven't attempted to order one YET, I'm trying to find a similar keyboard with more features. So far, no luck. I'll keep you posted Binge.

I can vouch that dropping any keyboard enough will damage it. Heavy key presses are just the result of the dome switch wearing out. This keyboard won't have that issue because scissor switches use shallow domes and a much better mechanism to press the dome securely in place, but it still is not as great as a mechanical :p

But to be honest, I still want a mechanical keyboard for longevity reasons. I've had two scissor style keyboards go bad on me in the past 2 years and both were quite expensive, $70-80 each. So sending $100+ on a good mechanical keyboard would be the smarter buy.

iRock, Das Professional, Deck, who else makes good mechanical kb's Binge?

I'm completely sold on laptop style keyboards, I use apple ones with all 3 of my rigs now.

Soooo lovely to type on, a bit of a 'habitation' curve, but it's just lovely to use.

I Imagine the dell feels quite the same.

Best keyboards are marketed by Das and Filco. They buy from the same OEM. Das made a C revision of their keyboard that I would personally want to buy. If you have any interest in the small form Filco mechanical keyboard that I used in my peripheral review, let me know. I could let it go since I started collecting :toast:

I gotta have my numpad so ill pass on the offer Binge. I'm using a 9 year old Compaq keyboard currently since my Razer Lycosa randomly outputs +'s when I hit letters. It's definitely showing its age and needs to be replaced anyway. I'm more than likely going to go with a Filco or a Das. The Das has the nice piano finish but that attracts streaks/smudges so I may just go with a Filco. Can't go wrong with either one though. It's too bad Deck's cost so much, I like having a backlight.

When people harp about the streaks and smudges on the das I roll my eyes. The Deck is a piece of shit not to mention expensive. Their backlights are annoying, but since you mentioned it you might be interested more in the new Das revision.

It's got backlit media short-cuts :3

If you like laptop style keyboards (like me) then I can recommend the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. Laptop style keys but have 50% more travel, so its kind of between standard keyboard and laptop.
It has multimedia keys (although you need to press a key to activate them) and is backlit white, with different brightness' or completely off.

I know people go on about the mechanical switches and I can believe they last longer etc, but I can honhestly say I've had no issue with mine so far :)

It hardly has to do with the key lasting an ammount of time, but more like the feeling never changes from when it was new and the feeling of a mechanical keyboard is unparalleled. That's why people cream their pants over mechanical keyboards.
