Crappiest Sequel Ever

I had it for all of 30 minutes... It was so very VERY unsatisfying, I had to get a high resolution patch for StarCraft+Broodwar, and play a few rounds of that again just to wash the horrible taste of SC2Beta out of my mouth.

Edit : I'm now half way through re-playing SC+BW, It's amazing just how good that game STILL is once you patch it for High Resolutions, even compared to much newer titles.

More please. Why?

Well - it's pretty much EXACTLY like Star Craft 1.. I know that sounds like an odd complaint, but its been like... 11 years? It hasn't grown at all, and it hasn't kept up with what RTS gaming is today at all - the battles are TINY the maps are SMALLER than they where in StarCraft 1 and you play as though you have a 640X480 screen Duct-Taped directly to your face, JUST LIKE IN STARCRAFT 1.

SERIOUSLY - you can barely tell the difference in GFX because your face is jammed SO deep into the fishbowl you cant breathe. It's just like being back on my Pentium 133, 10 years ago playing at 640x480 - And although I LOVED that then , now days that's so far beyond acceptable I cannot even find words to explain it.

WHY CANT I ZOOM OUT? ITS BLOODY 3D FFS!

You play from so close up in fact that you a single building almost fills the entire screen Its like Super ULTRA Micro management.

ZERO percent strategy, fastest rusher finishes first - That's it - Lets all be in a hurry to quit the game as FAST AS POSSIBLE.

Why would you even play something where your sole objective is to end what your doing as fast as possible?

Anyway - My basic complaint is that it is the EXACT same thing that yes we loved, but has barely evolved at all, and the industry has - StarCraft 1 was more fun and had BIGGER battles.

An 11+ year old idea that PLAYS like an 11+ Year old Idea.

http://www.filefront.com/thankyou.php?f=13986957&k=f7001de6365f33b5ef750816df066eebbe723d12b221c216fc05482a6aa3ffba

Download link for the High Res Loader I use - I cant find the website now...

Edit : These are the guys : http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/

1.) Just Dump all files into the Starcraft.exe Directory
2.) Edit the INI fiile for the desired resolution (try and use "real" Resolutions as odd numbers make it bug out a little)
3.) Run the Loader EXE

I'm using 1.16.1 Patch

Now all you need to do is play it in a VM so its "windowed" as well, so you can also do other things...

My brother got in the beta and i tried it a few times at his place. Its awesome. Of course they didnt evolve from starcraft 1 too much. There was so many good things about it why change it. There's some new units, and some old ones with changes. Seems that every unit has a special ability that makes it useful. Oh i cant wait for the full release.

Thank goodness nothing of this applies to me as I'm only in it for the story. :p

And I don't like modern RTS games, so the fact that it's a lot like the first game is almost a boon for me.

100%

There IS a mod that does this - but it is a lot less stable : http://freenet-homepage.de/ToiletGame/index.html

I've had a lot of problems using this one, but when it DOES work, it works very well.

EDIT : Just a note on the previous mod - it may occasionally lock up during single player campaigns when a storyline event force moves a camera, don't worry, If this happens just save & load the game (you can still get the menu) and it will continue with no problem.

bazookajoe, for u noobies rushing may be effective, but when u reach a certain level in any RTS game, ull learn how to scout and then ull learn how to anti rush, anti rushing is really easy, so after u beat him in the 1st fight, u can either expand or counter attack.

RTS is the hardest gaming genre and starcraft is the most competitive format of it. Maybe something less skillful is better for u, like MW2 or WOW.

have u seen jaedong from sc1's Action per minute??

I think so, yes. The top players are skilled, no boubt, but a lot of is pretty much programmed in their heads.
