GTX480 is 4way SLI ready :D

remember when 8800GTX and ULTRAS came out?? those things were hot as all hell but nobody whined like they are with fermi. huh. to hell with the heat that card performs almost as well as a 5970 in most games/apps, therfore slap a waterblock on it and quit whining.

yes a single gtx480 CAN draw UP TO 320watts but thats not realistic.

280watts is what would be considered MAX realistic for single card mode.

when in SLI the load of the cards are reduced so all 4 cards probably dont draw more than 600-800watts MAX at MAX res and under a really heavy load.

Expensive way to cook bacon & eggs

What's that green bar in the screen? Artifact due to poor multi-GPU tiling?

Also, Jacob needs to show a GPU-Z of "Enabled (4 GPUs)", not some random game/benchmark shot.

..joke? the green bar is the scaling bar which can be enabled on the NV CP

impressive yes, logical, maybe, not a big fan of the card, i wanna know what psu hes using or just has it plugged into a millitary generator maybe a -60 turbine gerenrator would create enough for them, *sigh* them need wcing quick. and just omg.... pictures a little obscure you can see the monitor i doubt its even running that monitor thats right i went there, them 4 cards would probbaly crash do to athe amount of heat they put out under a 3d load and being right next to each other i can only imagine each of them cards are running at atleast 120-140c im pretty sure the chip would crash at them speeds or start melting plastic

I heard of such a thing, but didn't know it looked like this. Aside, we still need the GPU-Z shot. NVIDIA's presentation does not talk about 4-way SLI at all.

lol thats great my computer also has bios, lol, i think we all want a gpuz screenshot

Or the broke the bank on the cards. I have seen both ways. I would never own a 4870 X2 unless it was under water. but lots of people own them and run them stock and then some expect to overclock.

Almost 1.1Ghz core speed is enough for me.

I run two with a mild (10% OC), I don't have any heat issues, either . . . TBH, though, when running 4GPUs, it's not like you really need to push the clock speeds at all for everyday use. Maybe if you're trying to compete for benchmark scores or something . . .

But, I went to the effort to remove the stock TIM after I got the cards, and replaced that with some tried-and-tested AS5.

Only time I had heat issues was about a month ago - the AS5 had been cooked enough that it was no longer allowing for proper cooling of the GPUs . . . had to tear-down and re-apply. Also had to replace the shitty stock TIM pads used on the various PCB components.

For the vast majority of cards, IMHO, the efficiency of the cooler is affected heavily by case airflow . . . if I had more of a "traditional" closed-in case, I don't think I'd push these clocks at all . . . it's just me not happy with leaving things alone :p

Yup, I just jizzed in my pants.

Thanks Fit, that is the 'hottest' hardware pron on the net.

the cards have vent holes in the pcb and they arent 100% blocked.

they are just like any other nvidia card. the area around the fan is slanted to allow for airflow.

sure its less than a single gpu but its not completely blocked as you say

Agreed - gauging by the pics, it appears to be about the same amount of space one would find between two 4870x2s or two 5970s.

I'm curious, though, how the cars would fare if mounted vertically in a case . . .

Who's up for 75C+ in idle? Nvidia should have implemented a Optimus technology in these cards. And the 5970 has back vent and sideways vent. Also they dont come in contact with 2 cards in any given time (5970), like the 2 cards that are in the middle (480)

because the 8800GTX/ultra was FAST to go with its power consumption. performance per watt was still acceptable.

Compare wattage with an equivalent ATI card, and you find out that the GTX 480 is a tad slow compared to a 5970

The 8800GTX wasn't really that hot, please don't bad mouth a once great card.

There are a lot of people here that need to do their homework.
As Fits said, these cards are designed to handle the heat and the heat on retail cards are not as high as the reviews stated.
From the results I have seen, these cards were compared to GTX 280 temps. Load temps in the 70's c. Granted the Hydro version would be better

In the bench's I have seen this card is on par with the 5970 which is a dual gpu card; where as the gtx 480 is a single gpu.
Who cares about benches anyway; real world performance is what matters to me. The 5970 has microstuttering being dual gpu, where as this card doesnt. That will affect realworld performance.

I do not even think this was the point of Fits thread; definately not to fight over who has the best card, blah, blah , blah.

I think it would be sweet to have a quad sli- setup with gtx 480's.
For me it would be GTX 480 over ATI because I need it for Folding Gpugrid and F@H; ATI cannot come close right now to NV for folding.

I can see this thread being closed real soon just like all the others on the net.

im going for it.

i have 2 cards lined up and waiting to hear back on the other 2 :D :toast:

and yes... the point of this thread is to show that 4way SLI does in fact work with gtx480s. thats all.

cant wait to see your rig after you have all your new parts:toast:
besides the cards; what do you heave left to get? the sr-2 correct?

my 4870x2 runs at 50-60 max on load so. with stock cooling never had a heat issue
i think its a 750/900 or something like that. for clocks and only 50% fan

same dude no heat issues
