System Name my system
Processor Q8400 3.30GHZ
Motherboard Asus P5KR
Memory 2GB DDR2
Video Card(s) MSI GTX 460 1gb 860mhz core, 2200mhz memory
Storage 2 hard drives
Display(s) 17 inch CRT
Power Supply Silverstone strider 560w
Software win 7
I recently bought a GTX 460 1GB and been trying to find an stable overclock.

I overclocked the card to 860mhz core from 725mhz and the memory from 1800mhz to 2200mhz.

benchmarked with MSI Kombuster for more than 1 hour without any issue or crashes.

also played Metro 2033 on very high DX11 at 1600*1200 res, AAA, 4x AF with DoF enabled for half an hour and didnt notice any issues.

the performance is good, but sometimes i get micro stuttering during the game.

i want to know if anyone noticed or experienced micro stuttering issues????

my memory bandwidth moved from 115 Gb/s to 140 Gb/s now.

right now its faster than 5850 and 470 in terms of memory bandwidth.

so it cant be due to memory or lack of. right?

edit: right now i have 2GB of system memory. i used to have 3GB but i had issues with one memory so i took it off.

Using 460

I just feel it give me dizziness even it shows it has 4x average FPS. Always feel like 4x fps =2x or sometimes 1x fps.

I played fps , but never tried this before

It most likely has to do with some other part of your system and not the video card (adding more system RAM is a good place to start). I believe we went over this over and over again in the other thread you made. I don't see how making a new thread is going to help you at all since you obviously didn't really listen to anyone in the previous thread.

Im very impressed, I have GTX460 SLI and i cant max out Metro 2033 at 1920 x 1200 I have to turn off advanced DOF to get it so it doesnt stutter - have you got advanced Physx enabled?

Try it without DOF and see if that helps, Metro itself is a VERY poorly optimised game :(

Yeah it runs/ran(that damn DLC has borked it) great for me maxed out at 1920x1080. As long I don't run the DOF or Tesselation(ATI's Achilles Heel in the 5 series)

Thinking your right Ram issue as ram runs out the OS is moving stuff to the HDD and that include parts of the game as well.

Yeah i got it a few times due to Physx being enabled. But it was very rare and that was with out a NV card.

its engine the disable Physx

I really wish Devs would quiet reaming this Physx garbage down our gullets ffs

so far my clocks are pretty stable and performance improved.

i will be trying to overclock the memory even more to get 150 Gb/s bandwidth, which will be similar to that of 5870.

sadly i cant overclock higher than 850mhz on core, otherwise i get shutdowns during the game due to power issue.

Metro 2033 is playable on very high settings, DX11, 1600*1200, with DoF on, advanced physix and all that for me. without Tessellation.

I dont like tessellation, i dont notice anything and it drains performance.

The only slowdown i get during the game is on rare occasions when i look directly at certain lighting affects, then my fps goes down to like 10fps, but luckily its very brief.

I've read about the GTX 460 SLI stutter in other forums so it's no surprise to me this is happening.

1GB of video memory and 140 gb/s or 150 Gb/s memory bandwidth should be more than enough for most games.

considering i dont use AF at all in my games. only 4xAA at 1600*1200 res, but not in Metro 2033. only AAA.

The card and your system in general aren't enough to play this game at higher framerates.

Metro 2033 is the new crysis its extreamly demanding in dx11 mode

erocker: the performance is fine for me, but the micro stuttering is different.

i can have good performance while i can have stutter in certain places.

i was fighting with like 10 monsters attacking at me at Ghost level under tunnel, and i didnt get any noticeable slowdown. it was pretty fluid even when i was being attacked.

but yes, at certain places when there is a heavy fog or lighting affects i get some slowdowns until i pass that area.

but i think most people have these kind of issues with better system too.

I agree with erocker 4GB ram is he standard nowadays. any less and games will suffer greatly. also maybe oc the cpu a bit more but that is secondary

overclocking101: should i move to 64 bit OS?

Mavvs, when I play Metro 2033 maxed out it brings my desktop in system specs to its knees - the game is very poorly optimised.

You shouldn't be having big problems though since you're gaming on a 17" CRT... perhaps you need to lower your graphics card's overclock?

True! The fog/lighting effects are the kind of things that systems really struggle with. Pretty much everyone has this issue. :)

yeah, for example in the tunnel, when that ghostly train comes, when u look at its bright headlight the fps goes down to 10fps until the train passes you.

its unusual. isnt it the fault of game like memory leaks or something?

the same unusual performance drops also occurs when you look at the sun when u first go out.

so anything that is very bright it heavily drops the fps when u directly look at it which is very strange.

i dont have performance issues except for that kind of things.

You can't get microstuttering with a single GPU card like a GTX 460. Allegedly.

This particular effect apparently only applies to a dual GPU card like a 5970 and the frame rate rendered is less than the refresh rate of the monitor. For what it's worth, I had an nvidia 9800 GX2 for a while and I never noticed this effect, even with the frame rate lower than the refresh rate and using a CRT monitor.

This forum post from hardocp explains it.

However, now we have a spanner in the works for this definition, in the form of an Overclockers post. This one's handy, as it links to a utility to actually measure the amount of microstutter. :rockout:

Why not run this and show us the results?

EDIT: The link for the utility appears to have unfortunately expired. If anyone can find it elsewhere, please post it on this thread.

i think my max memory overclock is at 2225mhz which is 143 GB/s.

anything higher than that i start getting artifacts.

i gained 19fps in Kane & Lynch 2 Dog Days from overclocking my GPU. my fps gone up from 184fps to 203fps

but not as much as in Metro 2033.

i think games like Just Cause 2 and Metro 2033 benefits the most from overclocking the Core not the Memory as far as i can see.

You should first know if its microstuttering or just simply the application frameskipping / having low fps.. they are entirely different. Boot up fraps or any framerate displaying app.. if it says 40fps but you see choppiness in 40 fps, its stuttering. If you see fps dropping to 5-20 fps, then its horsepower issue not micro stuttering.

yeah, its 30fps when it happens. so i guess its stuttering.

also at that level when there is a tank that tries to hit you, and the other guy who drives the thing tells you to Hit the supporter, it looks weak. what does he mean?

where is the supported on the tank?

The bridge's beams.. shoot them out.

Buy more RAM, 2GB wouldn't be enough for Metro 2033:twitch:

CHAOS_KILLA: is it possible to overclock my 460 to be faster than a 5970? :P
