Hey there, For the price that the 5970 is, id recommend running either 5850 Crossfire or 5870 Crossfire, both would be nearly if not better than a single 5970.

I suggest you wait for the 6000 series, then get the best GPUs then... You got money, so getting the best of the best on the 6000 series should be your best bet

Well lol you say is it worth it i say maybe.

The 5970 with 4 Gb cards are for multi monitor setups, but some run 2 of this beast to play crysis and such games at max settings.

First of all you think you have a need for those big gun cards

Or are you going to use triple monitor setups or more ?!, because thats what they are made for those with with minimal 3 huge 2560x1600 or 6 monitors playing flight sim X with max settings and such ;)

But i agree on most here if it is true and the 6000 series get released in october as has been suggested by many rumours then its probably not the good moment to buy anything that expenssive now.
Because if those rumours are going to be true the new cards will give a good performance boost.

Now directx 11 seems to be the next best thing we should get, but for now nobody have seen any results which shows us spectacular improvements.

So far i don't know any game released yet which is using directx 11 in full, so thats also rumours and hear say till we actually can see a full Dx 11 game for real.

Now ofcourse you could buy those 2 x 5970 and if the 6XXX series comes out next month send me you old 5970 cards for free ;)

So in short wait till to see if the new 6XXX ati gets released in october if not it is probably gonna be half 2011 before any news gets released but your guess is as good as mine.

the only reasoning behind the 4GB cards is that crossfire doesnt add ram - so with one 4GB 5970 you only have 2GB of usable ram, and with two in crossfire, its still 2GB between 4 GPU's

personally i dont think 4 GPU crossfire is worth it, get one 5970 and stick with that.

as for DX11 games, theres quite a few. bad company 2 is a big one, off the top of my head.

you cant say 'full' DX11 game, hell they're still making DX9 games that look better and shinier than older DX9 games, so are they 'full' DX9 games yet?

As far as i know the 4 Gb are eyefinity cards for there is the only reason to add ram, so to my knowledge has nothing todo with crossfire.

So yes for normal gaming on 1 monitor even if they are the huge 2560x1600 ones and you play your games at them you will have enough on 2 Gb 5970 models

But eyefinity uses huge screen sizes since you actually use 3 or 6 or some people even 12 to display your game over those monitors. As a fact you create a enormous screen devided over your monitors which needs more memory the more the better.

Thats why some manufactors also released single gpu cards with 2 Gb mem each those are all eyefinity models.

The OP just wants to play games at the highest level of graphics available. :D And when it comes to gaming this card will squash any other card. Almost equivalent to 3*GTX480s.

W1zz did a review of 4x gpu scaling with ARES...you might want to take a look at that before you buy.

LINKAGE:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/ARES_CrossFire/

While there is some scaling happening at lower resolutions, it's barely worth it until you go 2560x1600. Only at this resolution we see more than 25% scaling going from two GPUs in a single ARES to four GPUs in two ARES cards.

If spending $1200 to get 25% performance from that second card is worth it for you...please, buy away. Otherwise, I suggest you stick to a single card.

If you got the money to spend on 2x 5970 4GB cards, then as nster said, i would wait and get the highest end 6 series cards when they come out.

Or you can just go all out at the moment and go 4-way SLI with some GTX 480's. Though im not sure how well they will scale depending on the circumstance.

your current card will own civ V

but you have a 980X, you are from Dubai, my guess is you have money to spend and want the best... get at least the best single card in the 6000 series, if not crossfire 2 of them...

If I am mistaken n you don`t have that much money, just keep your money, you computer is overkill as it is for your usage

For Civilization V, I don't think it'd be worth Crossfiring 2 5970s. Recommended settings suggest a 4800 series card will run the game fine, although the 4800 series cards don't run DX11.

Hmm the demands for Civ - V seems low enough for any nowadays cards with dx11

But thats just one game since mohammed2006 already stated he like strategy games, so even if he does not need it now will not say it can be in the near future, i like strategy games myself as well and i am hoping some new titles are being developed at least to make use of the dx 11 goodies soon.

So even if you can do all games with basically one card its still better to wait what the market is gonna do after we have the newer models gets released.

More and more news start to point at the direction of late this year the newer model being released which in turn probably is going to be at least lower the prices a bit of the 5XXX serie.

And if some of the so called leaks are true you probably want minimal one of these monsters, so if one say 6870 beats the hell out of a 5970 then i think those cards quickly will disappear from the selling lists

But to my opinion the current flagship of ati won't drop enormous in price untill its successor comes, which will no doubt do happen

Our main problem though is the short supply lines nowadays.

Since orders are done more and more without keeping stock and get a delivery almost straight out of the factory.
