Hi all just got the 1090t and a crosshair iv board and iam looking forward to ocing it.
It can esay go to 3.8 by a button and little clocking around 4.014 ghz now no biggie that is, i used the Turbo V Evo software in windows to overclock but i have never oced before so i need to know a little basic short and easy, if any one have spare time.
Though ocing and everything my 3d mark went from 17K to 19K not a big feat there either.
the 5850 goes to max clock through catalyst center and runs fine so thats not max oc anyway and i dunno abt flashing a whole new thing... plz help
NOOB OCER.

BTW do the 3D score seem right?

was that 3dmark 06

yup that was o6

That 3Dmark06 is an old software. I recommend using Cinebench 11.5 to measure a before-after score. Post them here and we will see if everything is fine. This software will show linear increase in score with frequency. My i7 860 @ 2.8 GHz scores 4.75 pts. When OC'd to 3.6 GHz, it scores 6.16 pts. So, a 129% OC increased the score by 129%. :)

Use MSI Afterburner to overclock. After installing this software, go to Program Files\MSI Afterburner and open MSIAfterburner.cfg file, change "EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0" to "EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1" and save the file. Now you can overclock your 5850 to your heart's content.

NOOB OCER.

You proved that dude

Well at 3.2 i got 5.64 and at 4.0 i got 6.97 so i thinks thats good but i dunno the perecntage...

stick to 1 thread

you have another thread going on oc issues with the 1090T stick to 1 thread

WEll i tried MSI Afterburner to no avail, the clock dosent letme exceede 775core and 1125 mem and the cfg file has no such line so i put it in there and nothing changed, cant go over 775/1125

u have to use afterburner to overclock period ccc wont do squat someone just post up a cfg file for the guy u might also have to disable ULPS in the registery aka ultra low power states dont bother trying to oc with ccc AND msi afterburner just use msi for all of it after the needed tweaks

roughly 23% faster there mate.

as for MSI afterburner, are you sure you changed the CFG file from 0 to 1? you should do so without MSI afterburner running, then boot it up. also go into CCC and cancel any overclocking you have done there at all, CCC is 99% useless compared to MSI AB.

To calculate the percentage, take the higher value, divide it by the lower and multiply the result by 100. In your case that is (4.0/3.2)x100=125% OC and it resulted in a score that is (6.97/5.64)x100=123.6% of the previous one. So, your OC is paying off very well. Just keep your temperature in check if it is exceeding 75 under Linpack. :)

I think you failed to modify the cfg file. I have included mine with this post. Unzip it, copy it and paste it over the original one located in %SystemRoot%\Program files (x86 in x64 based systems)\MSI Afterburner. Make sure MSI Afterburner is not running in the background. Kill the process before you start overwriting the file. It will unlock Core clock upto 1090 and Memory upto 1300.

And yes, sticking to one thread helps solve problems quickly and other users having similar problems will see the entire discussion in a single place which will also be of great use to them. :)

sorry for the late reply... now i dunno how to oc but iam verywell capable of using a computer :D so now the config file has no such line in there so i tried to put it in there anyway, didnt help there and yes i shut msiAB off before changing... so i will go home download the zip file and give it a try and check if any other thing isint controlling the clocks such as a ccc running in the back or something else.

Also the temps are running cool at 45C - 50C max so thats taken care of.

My other thread wasnt about ocing rather if its in safe temp and voltage
(general question) :p and more people check general anyway...

Btw what are the max safe clcks on the 5850 ? i see people going 1000 max clock but after flashing... so without flashing what is the max core and mem clocks?

thats really depends on ur chip, u just have to play around, some play well in low volt and some dont

use msi afterburner/kumbustor then play ur fav game if u see artifacts/crush then not stable

Edit: like my 5870 with slight volt adjustment i hit 1000+ 24/7 use, i can prolly push more but no need for it

well the msi afterburner aint working still and registy does not have the option to turn it off.
I looked up where can i find the registry option but its not in my registry so what now? clocks dun go above 775 and 1125

Weired, try to make the file I gave you "read only" before starting MSI Afterburner. Also, do NOT use ATI Overdrive. If you are using it, restore to factory settings then try. And about max frequency.. there is no such thing as "max safe frequency". It solely depends on your card. For eg. my 5850 without any voltage tweak hits 850/1150 and remains stable. But the XFX 5850 card I had previously was factory overclocked, but it wouldn't go above 800/1150. With some voltmodding, people get these running over 1000 MHz on the core. But these are not recommended. And what "registry" thing are you talking about?!

When I get home I'll try and the registry was the low power profile thing, I don't have it in the registry

changing it to read only also doesnt work

any update on the gpu situation? the clocks dont wanna change and msi ab isint working?
Any other program that might work

Yeah I have found this also to be my situation . I use CCC to OC but it is not even as good .
I have been looking for new software to work with Win 7 64 bit but found nothing good . I guess we have to wait or go with Nvidia  .

I was thinking of taking out all my CCC and drivers reinstall with just drivers for my video and installing MSI again just to see if I can get it to go again . :wtf: Just so much work involved in all that .

I wish XFX would start to make some software to OC with !

well i dunno the catalyst center is interfering with the clocks... as for afterburner, it should work but its not working and i dunno why. Though iam not going nvidia anytime soon because i just got the 5850 and its been just 2 weeks at most..... Also i think there needs to be some registry editing to change the clocks so that they exceede 775 and 1125.....

WELL IAM GONNA TRY TO REINTSALL JUST THE DRIVERS AND SEE IF THERE IS DECRESE IN PERFORMANCE BECAUSE OF THE LOST OF CATALYST CONTROL CENTER..... THX FOR THE IDEA BTW. AND LET YOU KNW THE RESULTS

Your problem is very uncommon, I never heard anyone reporting this type of problem. Maybe your problem relies on OS/driver configuration. But give the following softwares a try.

Rivatuner
EVGA Precision (its for Nvidia cards, not sure if it works with 5800 series)
ATI Tray Tools

If they fail, then download and install Driver Sweeper. Then uninstall catalyst driver. When it wants a reboot to complete uninstallation, do so but do NOT boot in normal mode. Boot directly in safe mode. In safe mode, run driver sweeper, check "ATI Display" and click "Clean". It will ask for a reboot. Do so. Then install Catalyst driver (latest one from their website).

Good luck.

Just so happens all these tuning softwares error out, one need driver signing and still wont work after fixing, one reports as a trojan, turning off antivirus also wont work and also one wont install at all!

So iam gonna give driver sweeper a go and see then

Well success after all, i uninstalled CCC and and reinstalled just the display drivers and no other utilities, MSI AB still didnt work, then i found the ulps and turned that off its still on and MSI AB still ddnt work then i found the AMD Gpu Clock tool and that oced just fine and my 5850 is stable 850core and 1275 mem on furmark without voltmods, and was stable at
875core and 1275mem but screen flicked once so i just backed off
