Hi there!!!
Long time-no post!!! :)
Some of u may know, that i fried my old Athlon like 2 months ago!
Well anyways i collected some old hardware parts to build my new SYSTEM:

"THE HIGH-END LOW-END GAMING SYSTEM"

I want to know which System is faster for youtube/Games like GTA-SA/Wolfenstein ET/COD2

---------------------------------------
SYSTEM NO.1:

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 256kb L2
GPU: ATI Radeon 9800
RAM: 1GB SDRAM PC133
HDD: 40GB Samsung 7200rpm
----------------------------------------
SYSTEM NO.2

CPU: Intel Pentium4 2.80GHz 512KB L2
GPU: NVidia GeForce4 MX440
RAM: 1GB DDR RAM PC2100
HDD: 80GB Samsung 5400rpm

EDIT: There is another choice:

------------------------------------------
SYSTEM NO.3

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.6GHz
GPU: NVidia Geforce FX 5200
RAM: 512 DDR RAM Dual Channel
HDD: 120GB Western Digital 7200rpm

THX!!! :toast:

Don't hold me on this but I'm going to say #1 would be a good chunk snappier.

both slow as crap, #1 has a far better video card (and by a HUGE margin), but #2 is a faster system.

Yep, #1, I'm pretty sure the 2800+ was a bit faster, and the 9800 Pro also is a better card by a lot.

you guys are missing a few things:

the 2800+ has SD-RAM, not DDR1 - and a 40GB HDD vs 80

He's asking whats faster, size won't matter for HDD's, especially since the 40GB is 7200 vs 5400 for the 80gb, but do agree on the RAM, SD is a snail.

and 9800 vs MX440, the 440 is a snail (and has ZERO pixel shader support, vs the 9800 at least supporting SM2.0)

AWWW...!!!! So hard to decide!!!

!!!I ADDED ANOTHER CHIOCE!!!

The one sys this one, then the other one and one even said both!!!! :ohwell:
SO WHAT IS BETTER?

And by the way....im gonna run win xp prof 32bit on it!!!!

Yeah, the 9800 Pro was an awesome card, top of the line when it came out, where as the MX 440 was the mid ranged card.

the MX440 was nvidias first rebadging.

Geforce 2: no pixel shaders, but hardware TnL
Geforce 3: Shader 1.3
Geforce 4 Ti: shader 1.4
Geforce 4 MX: rebadged Geforce 2, no shaders again.

even my media software these days uses shader 2.0 for video playback, so i'd really suggest getting that video card, even if its the inferior system.

those two systems just each have some large flaws.

The pentium 4 is extremely power hungry and hot

Yeah I remember Marineborn had a 440 and it was garbage, bought it at Best Buy and he soon upgraded to his 9800 Pro (which I later bought), I had a Ti 4600 at the time, and really liked it for the price. But once he moved to an x850 I got his 9800, and since then kinda been on the Red Camp bandwagon.

no, they arent. that's an older socket 478 P4, which were colder than Athlon XP's of that era (pre barton)

i have two socket 478 P4's in the other room here in the machines i'm fixing, and they run passively on the stock coolers with the fan unplugged with zero issues.

System 1 would be the best for the things you have asked to do with it (the 9800 is the fastest GPU there) and the AMD 2800+ is very similar in performance to the P4 2.8GHz thats why they called the AMD 2800+ as in 2800MHz speed equivalent to.

Only bummer is the RAM, but that wont make a huge difference.

I did not knew that the MX440 was such a flop!!!

Here are the 3 GPUs of each of my 3 Systems:

#2, but with the gpu from #1

#2, but with the gpu from #1

Or 1 with the RAM from Number 2 (if mobo can handle it)

All in all if you can get them all with no issues or cost you can make one up from all systems to make one good one (depending on the mobo mostly). Like the HDD in rig 3 is the best, they all have there +'s and -'s.

Jop i got the 3D mark 2001 score for default settings:
(LOL All 3 System are standing in my room right now!!! Oh man my parents are gonna kill me when they get the monthly energy bill!!)

System 1:
4639

System 2:
3994

System 3:
4145

But like u all said:
No 1s RAM SUX
NO 2 has CRAPY GRAKA
no 3 has low RAM

P4 system with 9800 would be quite good, IMO.

the 2Ghz P4's i've been playing with can actually handle 720p 'HD' media playback with minor tweaking, so it would even make an OK HTPC.

Take the 9800 out of the AMD pc and install it in the P4 PC and redo your 3dmark

Gonna try to run 3D Mark 2001 With the radeon 9800 in the P4 System:
(I just dont feal so well abou tit, bec ATI is more like for AMD systems and NVidia more for intel system)

That is not true

Scores should be close i would think, maybe a little better on the P4 couse of ram, we will find out.

And no, back then it didn't realy matter if anything Nvidia might of ran better in an AMD system back then with the Nforce chipsets.

what? thats one of the strangest things i've heard recently.

Its not true, but I get what he is saying and kind of feel the same. It's like putting a Ford Motor in a Chevy, or vise versa, since AMD/ATI are now one company. The performance might be awesome, but makes me feel like it's a bastard child.
