Hey guys, i've been wondering. Techpowerup should make a youtube channel which only forum members can access. They are allowed to add game videos, reviews, hardware reviews and so on! It will be like the next machinima. You could make your own gameplays with commentary and more!

I'll see if this will go through. Though i thought i'd ask the forum first, before we think about making it

Could turn out good. Could be bad. I foresee bad though.

It would be better if its accessible by staff only. I wouldn't mind seeing some video reviews from TPU.

I voted yes, but with certain restrictions such as what RandomFlip said.

I would love for TPU to have a Youtube Channel. It would be a force to be rekon'd with.

Everybody would love to hear W1zz's sexy voice

Hey as long as we get a Generalnonsense channel as well...
I wanna see W1ZZ take a bong hit to the dome.....
what he puts in the bowl is his choice.....

I voted yes, however as Alien stated, and I agree, staff should be the only ones that are able to post on the youtube site as randomflip stated!

Letting all members post would be pretty much exactly what JrRacinFan said, "I foresee bad though."

If we wanted to have videos posted by other users, how would we exactly go about doing that? :D And yes good idea, it should only be accessible by tpu staff. :)

Post your own youtube video, then start a thread at TPU with the link.

I voted no.

This would be the best way to go about it. Start a TPU YouTube thread (preferably in the games section) and we can post our video links there. I know I would use it. :toast:

rockz, your a youtube h0!

but, I see the best thing would be a thread... I believe we had a talk a bit ago about reviews and it was shot down... but, a youtube thread would probably work out...

Or, a youtube thread in every section? sticky? so we can post our own in the desired section?

Members can currently make threads which include video links.
I don't think we need a TPU YouTube channel or dedicated YouTube threads in any of the sections.

Let's say we made a YouTube thread in the games section. It would get filled with a plethora of random crap and have no specific purpose other than its for YouTube stuff.
I would rather see threads on a specific subject that include (or not) YouTube videos.

It's a lot easier to moderate this kind of thing on a tread by thread basis, and we moderators are all in favor of things being easy.
You jackwagons give us enough grief (and I say that in a loving and kind way). :D

I think Erocker and Uncle Kreij are right..
this would be to much hassle for mods to overlook and to many people would make crappy vids and would want it shown....
But I would still like to see W1ZZ in some form or another make a video for Youtube..
maybe just for really big releases Like Bulldozer or something that would be considered a big deal tech wise and or a killer bong hit...

Video reviews?

uhm yeah...

But just for...I dunno
Really big events...
and not for shit like unboxing

yeah i agree coz theres so many channel for unboxing, must be new like tips or event or gaming or review.
:nutkick:

A Wiz video review of the next big graphics card might be good, some sort of "behind the scenes", if he's up for it, that is.

Scrap the youtube idea... why not all vote for w1zz to create his own dedicated video section here? :D

You would have to make the channel private and then have everyone added personally which would take a lot of time. You can create a thread with a link to a video already but you cant embed the video to the forum. A whole section dedicated to videos i don't really like because why not just add threads with videos to the existing sections? There is already a games section for example. There are a lot of reasons why we cant embed videos; copyright, the coding work to do that ect.

Its a good idea though for people to share more content on the site.

Could be fun, but video reviews are incredibly time consuming. Plus I am having a hard time seeing the use, what aspect of a products performance is it that is communicated better via video compared to text and pictures?

If it is not a review but more like a tech show then it is slightly more interesting, but that is even more complicated to do right. Take a look at Tekzilla decent concept, but the shows vary a lot in quality and relevance. Same thing goes for the Danish show called "So ein ding" (yeah I know the title is in German).

So whats the verdict, if we make it to the peoples/staff preferences i think it'd be pretty successful.

:D

It could be fun but its not that... How to explain that? Some stuff are better made to be read. Just have a look at some youtube vids, some guys are just plain idiots, say stupid things, don't have a sense of humour and still try, stuff like that, if you get what I mean. How many vids end up a waste of space on youtube? At least they can hide it in between their text. So technically, letting users add vids could be a very bad idea. Maybe only let tpu staff make official vids, but I bet that would be time consuming. So I sincerely don't know. Also, if the vids are already on youtube, why bother reposting them? ;) A simple link here can do and does the trick.

TPU channeling into YouTube might be a good way for us to get some serious recgonition... just imagine all the resident exotic overclockers who have tanks of LN2 laying around posting videos of their adventures on YouTube... might channel some good traffic to us.

Creating *good* video material, or at least policing what member have posted, is going to be a whole new level of resource commitment. I vote to keep TPU focused on the great reviews, news, and forum. Let's not dilute it! Empire building will only backfire in the end. I think TPU has got the balance right with what it has.

However, there is no reason for some member to do something along those lines independently. I'm sure we would all drop by to see how you are doing with the venture! :)

I would like to see a TPU youtube channel, but it would be more work for the staff:laugh: so maybe down the line they could possibly hire some new ppl and they could handle the TPU youtube channel while the good old mods/staff stick to www.techpowerup.com:toast: so it evens out the work and everyone is happy:rockout:
