Can running memory above 1333MHz with AMD Phenoms corrupt the IMC?

Actually, that "2" in DDR2 was a typo.

:p

Oh. My mobo is an MSI 790GX-G65. The RAM standard was 1333 Mhz. I am sure the 790FX-GD70 was the same. Difference was the range of selection.

My board got: 800, 1066, 1333, 1600 as selectable speeds
The 790FX-GD70 got: 1066, 1333, 1600, and 2133 as selectable speeds

Selectable, sure, but plain old stock, AM3 w/790FX is 1066DDR-3

890FX and SB850 introduced IOMMU, an additional clock generation source, and a direct link between the SB and the memory controller, thus boosting "stock" support to DDR3-1333.

I tried to find some linkage for ya, but I'm not gonna look too hard. Actually, now that I think about it, at least one of the 890FX reviews mentoined this boost in memory support.

I mean sure, you'll have few issues running 1333 on 790FX, but it's still not "supported", except by mobo manufacturers.

uh you sure cause my STOCK am3 with gigabyte 790fx UD5P was 1333 mhz DDR3 i slotted in my intel speced mushkin ram kit and it auto detected 1333mhz 8-8-8-24 1T all i can to change was the timings to 7-7-7-20 1T

I still think you are getting your facts confused. I know some of the lower end chipsets of the 700 series have limited memory speeds and may have been released first. I have never see or heard of a 790 board released with 1066 DDR3 as the standard.....but I am too lazy to look for that info. either. So I will just stab you on BC2 later on to get this out of my system. In the mean time, we can agree to disagree.

Besides, the guy got his answer in 5 different forms from 7 different people. I think we are done here.

What are the lowest timings you managet to get out of them stable?

I still love them :) they have a nice heatspreader design..several times I was trying to get my hands on another 6GB kit, unfortunately its seems to be impossible.

EDIT:If you are interested,it appears that the PI black Edition has exactly the same specs as Silver Edition,so its just the heatspreader color what is different..however yesterday I've bookmarked official G.skill forum and I shall ask the moderators to comfirm.

I do love them especially compared to the heat spreaders G.Skill has gone to these days. I've found they are extremely sensitive to voltage and will cause errors if you have it too high.

As for timings, the ones I have run fine at 6-6-6-18 1T at the stock 1600mhz with only 1.56v in bios. My P6T6 overvolts a little from there so it ends up being about 1.65v at the dimm. If I remember right I can run them at 7-8-7-21 at 1700mhz. Pushing past that takes some real effort.

I love them because I've got some cas 7 Corsair Dominators (blue ones not the red) that are cake to clock up past the default 1600mhz, but they can't do the timings the G.Skill can do at 1600mhz.

Thats really nice man,I cant run those timings even @ 1403MHz.perhaps I have something set wrong, but doesnt really matter, cos as I mentioned earlier,my PC is wonderfully stable at current settings..but if you have a hint, share it.

You'd be good to say that since I got that wrong.

I was thinking they are cas 7 but they are 8. So I should have said I can run 7-7-7-18. Probably a little more possible since I think only hypers can run 6-6-6 at 1600mhz.
