OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

It may be a loading screen tip though one I have yet to see. I thought it wise to read this manual with the new stuff such as Smithing.

Nor have I spent much time on horseback yet. Speaking of which, if I own the horse it won't take off when I dismount, right? And will it stay put right there unless attacked or something?

Usually it stays put. It might wander in a small radius from where you dismounted though.

Interesting. If this is in the manual I missed it.

i thought it told me in game, i rarely read manuals. i could be wrong of course ;)

It is mentioned in the loading screen. Besides the sprinting, the direction you make WHILE you attack has an effect too. You sprint towards the enemy, then you click to attack, then you are moving to the left, for example, while attacking, THAT can have an effect. Moving straight towards the enemy all throughout could merit a different effect.

yeah, I learned the sprinting feature from the loading screen as well

Shadowmere is getting on my nerves.
I want him to bugger off.

Sure my Travel companion gets a bit too excited with the fire staffs and hits everyone but try explaining that to a horse.

I think I might just retire my travel companion.
Don't really need one anymore since I can't get rid of the horse.

you could just kill the horse couldnt you? :p

I don't like having around companions but the added benefit of them being able to carry stuff for you is great.

Is there a mod to allow your horse to carry stuff for you as well? Like an intractable container?

In real life horses can carry stuff this should have been in the game by default.

No mods, but you can kill the horse and store stuff on it's body, I think it will stay there if you use the resurrect command ( test with something unimportant)

Lame. How hard can it be to mod something like that.

Running the game on my SSD means I never get to read any of the tips during the loading screens. The load screens are up for literally 2 seconds before they are gone again.

I've actually considered moving the game to my 10k Velociraptor just so I can read the tips and info during loads.

I could....but I don't want to.:)
I just want i to go back to where it came from.

It was the main reason why I had the Travel companion around in the first place.
They were like a donkey.

But now my character can carry over 450 in weight and none of that weight includes heavy armour.

There are quite a few instances where things really do not make sense in comparison to real-life.

Like using a shout to blast someone important off a balcony in front of the towns people only for you to be let off the hook for a few septims.
The towns people talk to you about someone killing the person who they are not sure of when they saw you jump off the balcony and stole the corpses clothing and gold straight after.

I'm not even worried about that much detail. But something simple like having your Horse Carry a few things or being able to have a ring equipped on each finger does annoy me.

Honestly I have ten fingers and I can only equip one ring? Come on...

haha true. not sure why they limit the characters so much.

Your not missing much, usually it's just some background info on a quest or something, not uncommon for it just to re-iterate what has already happened in your active quest.

Somewhat unrelated question, what does everyone thing the best looking weapon in Skyrim is? I kinda like the nightingale blade, just wish you could change the enchantment. :(

Haven't tried this one (I'm still working on my Tolfdir who is apparently tripping and does nothing except stare at me with a mona-lisa smile) but apparently you can 'glitch' sprinting:

I never bought a horse but I found one (not stole) I think after I eradicated some Imperial camp-site. Even if you lose it, if you fast travel to anywhere you'd find it behind your heels. (The problem is behind, the first time I heard it behind me after fast travelling I had forgotten I had a horse and I attacked it!).

I lost that horse because it was a stupid horse. Always wanting to join my fights.... :ohwell:

Shadowmere is getting on my nerves.

I could do with a couple of horse mods myself.

1) Allow horses inside the cities. OK not indoors, but why can't I go on horseback up to the door of my house.

2) Horses obey the "stay" command. And by that it means not move. "Stay put" and let me do the fighting.... Also convenient if you want to go somewhere on foot , you'll know your horse will be waiting at the very same place you left him, and that in your absence the horse didn't fast-travel to some city's stables..

The load screens are up for literally 2 seconds before they are gone again.
Same problem here.

Lol but using that reasoning then you can also wear as many amulets and necklaces as you like (and end up looking like Mr T from the A-Team)

I think Oblivion mentioned that the horse would be at the stables.
I don't recall this being mentioned.
Sometimes I wonder how much these game developers pay attention to the modding community and see what is popular.
Besides the horses having various performance, they could have also made some intelligent to varying degrees to allow dialogue options similar to the travel companion.

Like the dog in my Hjerim house I left in the kitchen.

Don't mess with this Redguard

You can use commands to resurrect people/animals. But if they are holding anything, it will be gone, they basically revert to their default state.

You assume you have 10 fingers... maybe you have lost a few along your journeys.

Speaking of resurrecting, I need to make a couple of characters disappear as they do not die.

A quest bugged out and the guy who died is now back at a certain place but now there is two of them.

For a favor, we might be able to make said npcs disappear, or not disappear, if you catch my drift.

Just an update on my "First Lessons" stuck quest.

1) Tried waiting 3 days and 12 hours for everything to reset.
2) Reloaded a previous save before I entered the College.

Nothing worked, so I used the console command:

setstage MG01 200

to finish the quest. Actually I had already finished it. I had already listened to Tolfdir's lecture, done the spells he asked, yet my journal got stuck and kept insisting I repeat everything again. (The "listen to Tolfdir" in my Journal remained unchecked!) But Tolfdir differed. So I had no choice.

This was the bug. Very similar to my game (including all npc dialogues) but I kept trying to use the 'ward' spell and not the shock one.

There are a couple of quests which I had completed which have not been marked off as completed.
I recieved two jobs from two inns which wanted a giant killed and to go back to one Jarl for payment.

I completed both jobs in one go and only received one bounty but the quest is not marked off.
Same with the Flute quest and some other quest.

So bugged quests have been pretty rampant in my game.

Be careful because if they're like this one it would prevent you from progressing in the particular area of the game.

I found i could equip two rings today, dunno why all of a sudden, but as long as the ring do different things, i can wear two of them, one boosts bow damage, the other increases carry weight.

You can?
Will have to try this out in a moment.

I thought I would share a guide I made for tweaking skyrim for performance and visual quality...

http://rookienoob.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=scraps#/d4hlntm

It contains some new tweaks, I haven't seen online before as well as some tips on getting Skyrim to run better. Especially on slower systems.

This is a perfect guide - thank you. Tweaking the settings in these games always makes a huge difference.

I think i will kill a bit of the wind animation for the leaves distance as well as the max particle count.
