Bid farewell to the misery of being at work when a highly anticipated game is launched, and you have to wait hours at home for the game to be pre-loaded. A new beta version of Steam allows you to manage and install your purchased games remotely, provided your gaming PC is running and has its Steam client connected. The feature allows you to remotely initiate downloads and manage them, via any PC or mobile computing device.

Another first world problem solved

Awesome. I found this to be a real world issue and i'm quite happy to see it implemented. Quite useful indeed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm always for new and useful features.
But you can't deny the fact that this kind of feature is exactly the solution of a *first world problem* ;)

How is it a first world problem? America is a third world country.

And who still thinks these systems aren't danger to the whole society.. They've been monitoring you for years... :wtf:

Works better than virukses they actually make you install your own rootkit remote control software to your system and ask you to be happy about it paying on top of that. Self aware? Hell we already have a entirely self aware system in this world.. Corporate world doesn't update core root systems until main updates which makes then 365 days vulnerable clean up and second half gamers installs rootkits which makes 50 times more powerful machines available to run as bots. I wonder when does the time come when we see world wide bot armies with 4-24 core machines going through any security system we have left in this world. ;)

Well remote control anyone ? I am using this for many years, but still it is good to be implemented in the client because some people are using really controlled environment and cannot use what software they like.

There is a fine line between security and being over-paranoid. What exactly will they be monitoring me about? What games i buy and preload? Considering they sell the games on Steam i think they already know that don't you think?

a convenient feature, if i left my desktop on all day.

Well I'm pretty sure for that next big title, you'd leave your PC on for it that day.

It's becoming self aware.

It's about time! Download my games for me! lol..

A lot of people do actually.
My girlfriend for example.. and it drives me f'n nutz!...
Hmm you wanna know why our electric bill, is 300 dollars this month? Do ya really?..lol..

I guess in that aspect I don't like this idea at all. It negates the idea of being "Green" and caring about the world.. One more step, toward wasting more energy and producing more waste..
I mean if people actually leave their pc's on "just" for this reason, all the time. I find it unintuitive and harmful..

Maybe it is just me, but I've had this ability for years already, its built directly into Windows...:wtf:

See this fine gentleman's post below:

Yes indeed, then it will realise we just using it for games and it will start popping more messages up saying you cannot play this at this time with reason at the end..

Yeah, I was just trying to make my point as much worst case scenario as possible. Something like steam is quite minor affect to the world, but still, if we are headed this direction we think all major ones delivers information like how to breach is simply larger threat still than anything else out there. 'over-paranoid'? Well, I would agree with you that the idea would be overly paranoid a decade ago, but when it's so close to actually happening and actual possibility then I'd call it something else than paranoia.
