OFFICIAL Battlefield 4 (Discussion)

I used to love BF2 Wake. one of my most played maps but i was definitely a jetwhore back in the day :p

Yeah...somehow I like Wake still though maybe it's partly nostalgia. Though good jet pilots utterly dominate (cause no one works together to bring them down of course) which gets old quick as I am not even a bad one.

BF4central - Battlefield 4 gets “Field Upgrades” instead of Class Specializations

Battlefield 4 gets “Field Upgrades” instead of Class Specializations

BF4 introduces a new in-game soldier unlock feature.

DICE just announced that a new Battlefield 4 feature called Field Upgrades. The new feature replaces the old Class Specializations from BF3, where players received a specialization when they ranked up. Now, they’ll be getting unlocks on a per-match basis with Field Upgrades in Battlefield 4.
In BF3, players ranked up and unlocked weapons and specializations, such as “Sprint”, which made them sprint faster, or “Ammo”, which gave them more ammo, “Frag” which increased the hand grenade count, and more. There were also squad specialization versions of these as well.
In Battlefield 4, these are replaced with Field Upgrades, which are in-game soldier upgrades that are unlocked on a match to match basis — the better you play in a match, the better upgrades you get. After the match, the field upgrades are said to rest, although it’s not confirmed if all upgrades will be reset.
DICE also released a new screenshot as well, which you can find above.

gamesthirst.com - DICE talks more Battlefield 4: more vehicles, weapons, customization through streaming

Posted by: Christos Chatzisavvas August 8, 2013

Speaking to Battlefield.no, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach talked about some of the new features making it into Battlefield 4 when it releases on multiple platforms this October 29.

“There is a lot of stuff, really,. We have tried to look at the game from all angles. We have replaced streaming systems so we can give you more weapons, more vehicles.”

One feature we have not talked about is ‘any army on any side on any map,’ which gives you the possibility to choose what factions start at what side, and that’s on any map as well. So that will be interesting and might create some cool results. It’s a feature we haven’t discussed openly, but I think it’s something interesting.”

American, Russian and Chinese factions will be playable in multiplayer, each with their own weapons.

Bach also spoke about customizable UI and HUD elements on the PC version of Battlefield 4, saying, “on PC, you will get custom UI and HUD, and you can scale those so you can customize more to your liking.”

Bach boasted the game will have one of “the best netcodes on the market,” and said the game will also let players adjust the game according to their latency. ”

“We will of course tweak this so you less often will experience these kinds of [latency] problems. We have put a slider into the game which compensates for such events, and if you have a very good connection, you might want to turn that down and get a cleaner netcode.”

Lastly, Bach confirmed that there will be no day and night cycles in Battlefield 4 but that patching and updating will be a lot faster and more regular thanks to the brand new Frostbite 3 engine.

Field Upgrades are an interesting concept (and I do appreciate them trying new things in general) but won't it just make stacked teams stackeder?

It also encourages camping.. cause death means you lose the upgrades..

Dunno how I feel about it

I heard previously that you lose your upgrades if your squad is wiped.

IMO this whole 'field upgrades' thing sounds quite a lot like CoD Killstreaks except its EA/DICE's own version of it. Im not impressed at all.

it does. but the fact they towards the whole squad is what sets it apart, rather then one camping clown getting all the awards.

Most of these show full textures on the ground
This one in particular looks like a remake of BF3's Wake. This must be from the Second Assault expansion pack.

Actually, it looks like maybe he sandwiched a few seconds of BF4 footage between footage of BF3 Wake.

That BF4 gun is actually the Grenade Launcher on the boats ,It might have even been me firing the damn thing, i remember in Alpha blowing up a tank with it:) Those boats have side mounted LMGS and one forward Grenade Launcher

Good counterpoint.

middleeasy.com -There Sure is a Lot of Pointing in Battlefield 4, Apparently

AUGUST 8, 2013 WRITTEN BY DAVE WALSH

<click image for video>

So there are a lot of people on the internet who try to be funny. We know that by now, the internet is basically one big lulz factory, even if there are a lot of failures involved in this. That’s okay, because the cream floats to the top, or at least tries to get there. YouTube’s “Geek Week” means that people are going to be stretching to get some LULZ on YouTube and, well, this Battlefield 4 video is actually kind of funny!

Why? Because, indeed, you can do a lot of pointing to set markers and such in the upcoming Battlefield 4 and this guys decided to make one of those videos with home-produced music that we all know equates to an instant meme. So, join in with us, and point at all of these things in Battlefield 4 and recognize that other games don’t have this much pointing. While I’d usually insert a banal Call of Duty remark here, on this particular afternoon I feel as if it is not worth it and that you’ll all get the point anyway.

Battlefield Blog - The Road to Battlefield 4: Dialing Up The Team Play

Welcome to “The Road to Battlefield 4”, a new blog series where we’ll explore every aspect of Battlefield 4 in great detail together with the developers at DICE. First out: How the new elements of Battlefield 4 multiplayer will bring out the best team player in you.

Lead Multiplayer Designer Thomas “Tompen” Andersson is one of the true veterans here at DICE. He’s been with the company for two decades now and knows Battlefield inside and out. When he accepted command of the development of Battlefield 4’s multiplayer campaign, he immediately knew what he wanted to achieve:

I think Battlefield 3’s multiplayer is incredible, but I can’t wait to hear what our fans think about Battlefield 4. We’re having a blast playing it at work in its current Alpha stage, and I think we’re onto something big. We want to build upon what makes Battlefield 3 great, and one of the areas where Battlefield shines is team play. The way we’re going about it in Battlefield 4 is to highly encourage team play – but never force it. We want to promote team play by creating great gameplay mechanics such as Field Upgrades, Commander Mode, and a new range of gadgets specifically designed to expand co-operation in the field. We have drastically expanded on the tools and benefits of efficient team play, and as a result we feel Battlefield 4’s multiplayer experience is the deepest, most rewarding, and fun experience in the series.

Class reunion with a twist

The four playable kits from Battlefield 3 will be back in Battlefield 4: Engineer, Recon, Support, and Assault. While keeping these core kits intact, we are increasing the ability for players to more strongly specialize their combat role while also increasing flexibility and catering to different play styles. At the same time, we’re maintaining a distinct flavor in the different kits and building more meaningful interactions between them. We will go more in-depth on the specific classes in the next blog post.

No matter your play style, we have an extremely deep collection of features in Battlefield 4, and we want to make sure that you can experience that wide array of options available to you. Looking at Battlefield 3, I think only a fraction of our players have tried all available gadgets or vehicles in multiplayer. Of course you don’t have to use everything in the game, but I think we can do a better job in BF4 of letting players make more educated choices in their kit loadouts and combat roles.

I think some players in Battlefield 3 stuck with the default Assault loadout. That’s fine – there’s a reason why it’s the default – but I think they’re missing out on so much amazing variety. In Battlefield 4, we’re clearly displaying what gadgets can do for you, how different weapons compare, and how they affect your options on the Battlefield.

Great team play = great perks

We have this new concept called Field Upgrades. If you’re a long term fan that played Battlefield 2142, you will already have an idea what these are, but we have tweaked them for Battlefield 4. In short, Field Upgrades are chained boosts that can affect a number of gameplay mechanics for your player. Similar to the specializations in Battlefield 3, these can for example provide you with faster sprint speed, stronger personal armor, or expanded ammo capacity.

The idea behind Field Upgrades is to give individual rewards for squad based team play performance. You earn them through squad scoring such as squad healing, completing objectives with your squad members, squad resupplies, squad repairs, and other squad actions. Instead of one single specialization like in Battlefield 3, you can now pick from different upgrades paths, each containing four specializations. Keep the squad alive, and you will move through the accumulative upgrade path. But watch out! If your entire squad is eliminated, you will lose some of your progress.

Showing you how team play gives you the edge in the bigger battle is paramount for us, and it involves all elements of the game: audiovisual feedback, user interface, gameplay mechanics, and the way the entire persistence system is designed. When we tie all of these elements together with the tweaked team-based scoring, we have a game where I think everyone will find it satisfying and deeply engrossing to truly be part of a team.

Creating a positive feedback loop

BF4-Commander-Mode-Small
I’ve always been fascinated by creating interconnected systems and seeing how players use them. A great example in Battlefield 4 is the reward cycle incorporating every link in the chain of command. For example: The Commander issues an order (example: “Capture Base A!”), the Squad Leader passes it on to his squad mates, and the squad gets the work done. This executed order will reward everyone in the command chain and also open up ways for the Commander to further reward his team. This creates an eco-system that I believe will take team play in Battlefield 4 to new heights.

In the next episode of “The Road to Battlefield 4”, we’ll be taking a much closer look at exactly how Field Upgrades and the upgrade paths work, as well as revealing some of the all-new specializations we’re introducing in the game.

Levolution: The perfect storm
Watching our fans play Battlefield 3 has taught us a lot about player behavior. As developers, we tend to play our games one way, while fans try a lot of interesting things that we never thought of. Take the antenna on Caspian Border, for example. After players had seen it fall once, we could see them using everything in their arsenal to try and bring it down themselves. It might sound like a simple example, but it was one of the factors that initially made us think about incorporating bigger player-triggered destruction in Battlefield 4 – and that in turn led us to the game-changing concept that is Levolution.

Levolution is an overarching design concept incorporating a lot of features both big and small, that all affect gameplay in some way. You’ve probably already seen what it can do to skyscrapers but it also includes features like changing weather conditions that affects visibility, car alarms and metal detectors alerting players of enemy presence, or the ability to completely shroud a building in darkness and take out the enemies within using your IRNV scopes. Much more than just massive feats of destruction or pretty graphics, the exciting thing about Levolution is how it affects gameplay. From bringing down a skyscraper to securing a zone from enemy vehicles by raising bollards to block entry, Levolution will let you dynamically shape every game. And like so many other elements in Battlefield 4, Levolution also ties into the team play aspect of the game.

“Levolution will let you dynamically shape every game”
For example, depending on your team strengths, collapsing the skyscraper on our E3 map “Siege of Shanghai” can be either a positive or a negative. When you’ve knocked out its four main pillars, the skyscraper will fall in a massive cloud of dust and debris, killing all players unfortunate to be trapped inside. The base that used to be capture point C at the very top of the skyscraper will now be found at ground level, amidst the jarring blocks of concrete and rubble. This new infantry battleground will be clouded by dust, making navigation hard and often seeing players switch to infrared night vision scopes or FLIR. What used to be sniper heaven and the ideal paradrop base has suddenly turned into a low-visibility close quarters combat arena. This is great if you’re all about infantry combat, but if you have a team of great pilots, you will probably want the skyscraper to stay intact.

We’ll go more in-depth on the design process that led up to Levolution, as well as showcasing more examples of what this powerful concept can do in a future post. If there is one thing I wanted to focus on for multiplayer in Battlefield 4, it’s the idea of an open-ended design — We are creating a dynamic and complex “sandbox” where YOU decide what you want to do with it. That’s an emergent type of gameplay that we pride ourselves upon here at DICE.

With the release of Battlefield 4 fast approaching, we are anxious to start exploring the game together with you. Stay tuned here on the Battlefield Blog for more updates soon, and let us know what you think in the poll below.
-Thomas Andersson

Stay tuned to “The Road to Battlefield 4”, where we’ll continue the journey towards launch by diving deeper and deeper into every nuance of the biggest Battlefield game ever developed at DICE. Next week: Field Upgrades, “The Bro Bar!”, Suppression Revisited, The Mobile Battlefield, and Kit Loadouts.

Until then, let us know what you think about this blog post, and what questions you want us to answer in the upcoming posts. Thanks for reading!

My question is. Is the levolution only part of a few buildings on the map or all the ones you can go in? Or just one major one like the massive sky scrape on Shangai

Hopefully we find out soon. I have wondered the same thing.

Looks like there other building you can get into if you watch the video. Most likely there aren't any other large skyscrapers you can get in to. The Levolution seems to have a ground floor and the upper floor that you take an elevator to.

Nope they stated in another dev video that they are reset upon squad wipe. Which just encourages camping.

BF4CENTRAL - 40 minutes of Battlefield 4 multiplayer gameplay

40 minutes of Battlefield 4 multiplayer gameplay
New gameplay video shows a ton of footage -- over 40 minutes in total.

Youtube Viseo

EA and DICE have been releasing Battlefield 4 gameplay left and right over the past week, and so have the YouTube gamers who had access to Battlefield 4 at E3 and other events. The latest video, running at 40 minutes, shows pretty much every aspect of the game on the Siege of Shanghai map. We get to see a ton of weapons and vehicles in action, such as the trusty M1 Abrams tank, the UH-1Y Venom “Huey”, and many more. We have to warn you though, the guy who’s playing most definitely isn’t a Battlefield veteran.
After watching the whole 40 minutes of Battlefield 4 gameplay, and while it looks pretty impressive, we have to say it resembles BF3 a lot. It’s almost as if we’re looking at a large BF3 expansion — even the VO appears to be the same (and so do the in-game ribbons and awards). Keep in mind that this is still the “alpha” version (according to DICE), so it’s likely that plenty of things will change in the next few months.
What do you think of the gameplay footage? Let us know in the comments section!

BF4central - Official Battlefield 4 strategy guide has
bonus in-game content

Official Prima Guide gives players some in-game content as well.
Battlefield 4 guideOnline retailer Amazon has revealed a bunch of details about the official Battlefield 4 strategy guide. The guide — or rather book — clocks in at over 350 pages and includes all sorts of multiplayer tips and tricks, level guides, singleplayer walkthrough, and more.
Not only that, the official Battlefield 4 Prima Guide will also include a digital version with videos on how to do various things in the game, and some bonus content as well. Players will receive a code in the guide which will unlock multiplayer content. The content will be available on all platforms, but there’s no word on what the content specifically is. We’ll take a wild guess and say that it’ll include some dog tags.
The guide will retail for $25, although you can pre-order it now for just $19. What’s your take on the Prima guides? Are they worth the money? Share your thoughts in the comments section!

Oh no not with the COD killstreaks again.. personally I hate these kinds of "play good in the match first before you get some advantage" mechanic.

I mean, you are already good at it and you still get "upgrades" over others? It would be total ownage.

It's a better choice at early game, yey everyone starts on equal footing(unlike bf3 where low ranked players have no bonuses) but come late game, pros will really take over the match.

Maybe you would get some sort of "deathstreaks" like playing bad can still get you upgrades in a different way to balance it out

Nothing more MLG then console footage. you can tell its console footage because at 7.30 that idiot cant fly for shit - and around 8.55 onwards cant shoot for shit with a sniper rifle after trying to ram someone on the ground with a chopper not once but TWICE

very few shots on target if any at all. I get the feeling he was trying to 'quickscope' like on CoD but it wasnt working
