AMD Radeon R9 Fury X 4 GB

I was hoping for Fury to be this close to 980Ti but i hoped it would be ahead: not behind.

In any case, it's us the consumers that win with performance this close: let the price wars begin!!!

"AMD fans don't trust their own brand. Oh the Hue-manatee!"

just kidding / payback for trolling newsposts

The massive variation in the Fury's relative performance, especially how badly it performs in GameWorks titles is a real problem.
The card seems to perform as well the TitanX in the neutral titles, but in titles like the Witcher 3 and Project Cars, it falls behind badly. In GTAV Nvidia does better but me thinks its due to their crappy HBAO+ implementation.

Frame times are still an issue for AMD cards too:

damn... :/ so close... @W1zzard could new drivers and dx12 change this situation?

Well not that bad, that hbm helps it in uhd. But at lower resolutions it's quite stomped by geforces. Power consumption is quite good actually, that 20W idle is only thing that is annoying(pump and rad?).

You said it's gcn1.2, hardocp says it's gcn1.3, are they getting that up theirs backside or do you have some concrete information about the version(Not that I would trust hardocp over you, just curious where did they got idea the of gcn1.3)?

This is underwhelming. Waited so long for quite some disappointment. 980Ti it is then.

wow almost 600 lurkers lurkin

Meh, just on par with the 980Ti at the same price, if not worse.

Just gotta see how the NANO performs with the green teams ITX options, since my next build is gonna be ITX. Not gonna be optimistic.

Great review as allways, shame on AMD for the price point and lacklustre results.
On another note over 600 people reading Wizz's review TPU rocks! ;)

:( It's too bad. At 4K it's a decent card but still ONLY decent, at any res lower it's a bad card. Cmon AMD competition pls.. :(

There doesn't seem to be any reason to get a Fury X over the 980ti, if the Fury X launched at $549 it would be pretty great.

Any word on the fan version of the Fury X? And it's price?

And just to add insult to injury, LTT received a Fury X that artifacts! Artifacting is a direct result of faulty memory! I'm beginning to have doubts as to how much this technology is ready for prime time.

I'll wait to see results using Win 10, then decide which is better, the 980Ti or the FuryX

Well after all the hype about how it was going to be faster than the 980Ti in 4K, this was a big letdown...

Other sites place it closer to the 980ti at 1440p... But w1z has more games.

All in all a good card, should be a bit cheaper though and they should be avalable en masse now so... Dunno. It'll be a divider for sure and provide flaming adult discourse for months to come.

BTW, this card got a 9.2, which should put it in the excellent bracket, but many many people will be dissapointed. I find that funny.

well had already decided on 980ti and was just waiting to see how fury does to get 100% sure. stuck between G1 and amp extreme . the extra 100$ for amp extreme is a bummer but the thought of more OC headroom over that already massive Factory OC is quite tempting !

Maybe AMD just doesnt want to blow away the competition. They just wanna match it and see their response, so they can release an immediate response with less cut down features.

One can dream.

What will Windows 10 change for, say, Battlefield 4?

It's not enough that you have Windows 10 / DX12, you need every test in our review replaced with ones that actually use DX12.

Happy waiting.

The truth is AMD is fucked. Fury based products are the only competitive products on the 28nm node, and considering that top tier GPUs are used only by few (as indicated by Steam HW Survey), there's no way AMD can restore or even improve its market share.

Darn. I thought only the competition in the CPU market stalled, now it seems like the GPU market has come to the same bleak conclusion.

64 ROPs on this card makes no sense.

AMD, w da f happened :O ???... you let me down Building up expectations with false powerslides (again) - I was hoping for GTX 980 Ti price drop after this release... but now i am screwd - and next year when you will be under chapter 7 or under different brand - nvidia can and will make all kinds of ridiculosly high pricetags :'(
