VBE7 - vBIOS Editor for Radeon HD 7000 series cards

This will probably let you install it but you can't change the device id by this tool. I am also looking for the way to change the device ID ;p

I saw in some threads that some people got to install some modded drivers, but I cant find a link for them.. However, I think that if We are able to change the device ID, not in the bios but just in windows ( I think that it cant be changed in bios without flashing bios or hard modding..) that would at least let us install firepro drivers.. If this would result in better performance is another story.....

not sure if this has been abandoned - its crashing for me on loading a BIOS file in windows 8.1, any suggestions?

Not tried it on 8, I have 7 but it works fine for me.

i had to use my server on win 7 to use it, win 8.1 is a nogo for sure. when loading my 280x BIOS i get an error about UEFI flags - that shows on 7, but crashes on 8.1

I'm wondering if my 280x woes would be solved by a 7970 downgrade (to match for crossfire, if nothing else)...

Is there a bios for a reference 280x with increased power limits & and what is the advantage of a non-boost bios?

I modded my own Bios, increased a couple of limits, for example mine is an OC version but in really demanding games it would occasionally blue screen, as it turns out my hunch was correct that load voltage was the issue so I raised it slightly in the Bios and I have not had a single issue in almost a year.

Hi. I have HD 7850 2GB Gigabyte WindForce 2. How can I unlock voltage in this card because I cant set more than 1.225V ?

Maybe should I modified Bios on R7 270??

if its like my windforce 3 280x was, you can adjust the voltages with BIOS modding.

But how should I do it?? In the program I can set 1.225V.
Can you check my bios and try modify voltage?
Here is oryginal Bios from my card: https://www.sendspace.com/file/2dqm5q
Upload that file here, you will have to zip it first, I get twitchy going to 3rd party sites and downloading files from people I don't know, then I will have a look at it for you.

Ok, file is uploaded.
I have edited your bios, I don't know if its correct. I just looked for 1210 in hex (use scientific mode on windows calculator) and substituted hex for 1300 i.e. 0514. I resaved it with VBE7.0.0.7b.exe to fix the checksum. Make sure u are prepared to recover from a bad flash if u try this. If u do try it post back as I have done a similar thing for my card's bios and have yet to test.

Hi. Thanks for Bios. I opened this bios using VBE7.0.0.7b and I can choose 1.225 value I didnt see 1.3V. I guess that this bios does not work, but after work I will try flash.

thc do you know if your 7850 is one with the NCP5395 voltage regulator

I know but i don't want modify it, because i have warranty on my GPU. So I can only modify/edit Bios.

There are some limitations though...
  • You cant change 2D / UVD voltages
  • You cant set 2D / UVD clocks higher than the values stored in BIOS (these limitations are intentional, without these limits powerplay would go nuts...)
  • The following voltage regulators are fully supported: CHL822x, CHL8214, UP1637, UP1801, ST6788A, VT1556M
  • For unknown voltage regulators, you can select voltage from a predefined table.

Hello darkhmz and thanks for the tool. From what i understand the tool is no longer in development, but i have a couple of questions regarding the software.

I own a clevo 7970m that has been retrofitted to an Asus g73jh laptop. I have some working 7970m vbioses, and modded ones with undervolted vddc. Some will show the undervolt 0.975V correctly when loaded in VBE7 while others will not show that they are undervolted (even though in reality they are). For example all the "unsupported" vbioses will show 1.075V in the list, while stock is actually 1.050V. So if i want to edit one of the unsupported vbios will i need to re-adjust the voltage tables, or if i only do clock changes it will keep the voltages of the original file and just mod the clocks?

In addition, in the limitations listed above..how come i can not change these since the program allows me to modify them?!? I want to specifically downclock the UVD RAM clock.

Kind regards

@TnF, apparently changing the UVD memory clocks to differ from performance settings causes issues.

has anyone drastically undervolted/clocked 7970 2D clocks for use on a slave card for crossfire?

Thought of doing that to help my brother keep is idle clocks/watts down when windows randomly powers his second card on for non gaming purposes.

I don't think you will get a response, the OP has not visited this site in almost 2 years.

i can not believe i have to make an account for this BUT: where do you put the .fpr file?

YES i did google it, yes i did a search on this thread and YUP i even asked on IRC. also the file i made is the only one found on my computer.

please add this info somewhere....

EDIT: have you ever tried to google "fan profile"?
