- voltage adjustment on reference and non reference cards

Hi, it did not work on my MSI HD7850 2GB/C TWINFROZR with the Asus TOP bios or the stock one. I have 1.3v, will i be able to get 1.35v?

It says that my card is non reference and that voltage control is impossible.

bios asus top 1.3v 7850 2gb

After editing the bios by hex to get 1.4v and using Sapphire Trixx modded version it was easy, but i think the chip is limited or being limited by something because i can't pass 1280mhz_core stable. Asic is 74%.

I will check your bios. I speak Portuguese so, maybe we can dialogue a bit. :)

Your bios is UEFI so, if i change something it will disable that function, do you still want more voltage? I see that now it's 1225mv max which is the same for all the others but i can change it.

Do you want to lower the fan RPM at idle for less noise? 40% is a bit too much no?!

edit:

Here it is, the UEFI is now disable but the max voltage is now 1300mv. Nothing more was changed and i have confirmed the new entry by using the VBE7 bios editor.

final1
for gigabyte hd 7850 oc. GV-R785OC-2GD:
-max 1300mv
https://www.mediafire.com/?iqbue7h4a2vup1u

final2 for gigabyte hd 7850 oc. GV-R785OC-2GD:
-max 1300mv
-In this one i changed the fan profile to 20% instead of 40% fan RPM so you can test it.
https://www.mediafire.com/?iqbue7h4a2vup1u

In my MSI card i use 10% but you need to test it because some fans do need some RPM to work or they might shutdown.

Report back and enjoy.

I'm glad to hear that.

Gpu-z now reads 1.3v? Can you go more than 1150mhz_core? How do i get what?

Don't mention it, it's easy when we understand the tools.

gpu 125v 1160hz. stable

gpu 127v 1170hz. unstable.

1200hz 1.3v. unstable.

has given the maximum this graph.
not bad.

the bios is good. thanks

Same thing happens to me above 1270mhz, i think there are entries that needs to be changed on the bios.

I'll do 2 more changes so you can test is because if don't think that your 7850 does not go more than that...

While testing the stability use the VRAM at 1200-1300.

I installed the bios final3. Similar results
the gpu not upload more.
I tried VRAM at 1200-1300
unstable at more than 1160hz. any voltage.
this is rare.
high temperature?.
1.25v = temp approximately 80-82 degrees.
1.27v = temp approximately 80-85 degrees.

Maybe the reference pcb does not like more than that or you got unlucky and the chip is not so good. Well, 1150mhz is not that bad. It's better than the 7870 1000mhz.

The temperature is related to the Asic of the card and cooler. Better coolers and more RPM fans = better temperatures. 85ºC is ok on the core, the problem is the VRM(100-125ºC max).

Asic >75% better temperatures, lower volts
Asic <75% worse temperatures, higher volts

They allow higher volts because of less leakage on the pcb if not mistaken. In the end it's all the same but low Asic is better for LN2.

My MSI 7850 2GB ASIC is 74%, i get 1270 stable 1.3v, more than that does not give me more clock and i have tested with 1.4v. Well, at least the GPU-Z reported that.

Yeah, mine does the same when it crashes, sometimes it just boots from the blue screen.

I found that the Unigine Heaven 4.0 Basic Preset test is more sensitive to overclock than the Extreme(dx11).

This is how i use to check stability:
http://www.ocaholic.ch/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=960&page=3

It is stable on 1270_core in the Extreme but only stable on 1250_core in the Basic preset.

I do not like Furmark tests because they push too much and my card is already out of warranty so, you get the picture. :)

I am happy as well, i use auto fan 1.3v 1250mhz_core, max 78ºC on the Twifrozr. Auto at that point is around 55%. I can hear it but is not loud.

You are welcome, till next time.

Hi DoctorYebaklak.

According to VBE7.0.0.7b your bios is UEFI, if i unlock more voltage it will disable that feature. Please backup your original bios to a pen/hardrive/server(like mediafire for example).

PowerColor HD 7850 2GB
http://www.mediafire.com/download/rl42vn6iddfah6o/final.rom
-unlocked 1.3v by Hex editor and confirmed the new entry by the bios editor VBE7.0.0.7b;
-tdp up to 175W instead of 105W - i think this only works for the boost cards but i changed it anyway. I have tried this on mine and i saw zero difference.

I also can lower the RPM fan if you want or you can use the bios editor i mentioned above. Meaning that while on idle it will make less noise.

which setting I need to edit to remove the speed limit of 20% of the fan?
I edited fan profile. Set 10% fan speed from 0s to 70c, but the fan speed does not drop below the 1180prm. At 20% fan speed the same speed (1180prm)

somewhere is a limit that can not be less than 20% lower turnover. how to change it? (my graphics card Asus HD7850-DC-1GD5)

Here is where you edit the fan from the minimal percentage to 10%. I did that to my MSI and it worked just fine and gpu-z reports 10%.

You need to push the green line to 10%.

You need to push the green line to 10%.

It's edit Fan profile, but not minimal precentage. I pushed this line to 10% and Gpu-z reports 10%, but Gpu-z same report Fan speed(PRM) = ~1180prm. If i push line in 20% then Gpu-z report Fan speed(PRM) = ~1180prm too.
