AMD Intros FX-6330 Black Edition Six-core Processor

AMD fleshed out its sub-$150 desktop CPU lineup with the new FX-6330, a socket AM3+ six-core chip based on the 32 nm "Vishera" silicon, which is priced at $109. At this price, it will take on the entry-level Core i3 and Pentium dual-core chips from Intel. This chip offers out of the box clocks of 3.60 GHz, and a maximum TurboCore frequency of 4.20 GHz. Its six cores are spread across three "Piledriver" modules. It features a total of 6 MB of L2, and 8 MB of L3 caches. The integrated memory controller supports dual-channel DDR3-1866 memory. Its TDP is rated at 95W.

32nm when competition is running at 14nm. AMD, wake the fuck up. I am at 22nm with 5820K, but for a reasons like availability and core count. Of actual cores not shared modules.

I am guessing they found a bunch of bad bins and needed a SKU to stuff them into. 6370 would be the up bin, they already have a higher clocked 6350.

If you could get this for $20 more than the regular six-core "Vishera" FX-6300 (other than Egg can be had for $90-100) as a tray part there could be takers, but as cdawall above said it a bin that never got that full and now need to kick them well before Zen.

FX-8370e(base clock 3.3GHz, max clock 4.3GHz) or FX-8320e(Base clock 3.2GHz, max clock 4.0GHz) are 95W 8-core cpus, what more do you want?

4.4 base and 4.7 turbo would be a good start since that's what it takes to be competitive with a lower wattage intel i5.

Well yea but I doubt we are going to see anything more from Vishera other than slightly better or revised versions until they scrap it for Zen.

We wont see anything useful is my guess. I am extremely disappointed they didn't put excavator on AM3+. My only guess is they didn't scale well, or AMD didn't care enough to scale to 8 cores and higher clocks.

Probably both, even with the newest chips in their lineup bulldozer was still far behind. Development for such chips would cost to much to justify the price point since they would probably still sit well enough below Intels mainstream processors that it would not sell or be worthwhile. While they are no means horrible chips, there are just better alternatives available. I think they wanted to wait until they had enough time to make something truly new which is hopefully what Zen will pull out and just make mid range APU's for mobile and desktop.

You think even 0.01% of the people that will get these chips in their pc know anything about them other then: "oh look 6 cores"?

Its like megapixels with cameras, give the general public a bigger number and sales go up, this will sell just fine.

FM2+ I don't believe is able to do such high power chips even with some of the better motherboards. But I believe it was the cost to make said chips that ended the idea.

yet another cannon fodder cpu, to fill in the gaps... kinda expensive too at this point, $89 would have been good
guess we are bound to wait a bit longer for news more exciting than this from amd (hopefully)
