this more of a rant then a question. i have to complete two water cooling builds and need 14 more gentle typhoons (only have 5 on hand, plus one that i took apart and lost the snap ring to). i use the 1850RPM PWM versions. they are sold out everywhere! performance-pcs, modmymods, etc. mnpctech doesn't even carry them. and the next shipment from nidec isn't until mid july. so i'm stuck.

doesn't anyone know of a US merchant that actually has any? i may have to resort to paying almost double and buying from daz mode in canada.

i do have a giant box of other fans. noctua, corsair, ek vardar, tt riing, and a bunch of other fans i don't like. my problem with most of those is they start producing motor whine when you slow them down. noctua fans stay quiet, but performance wise they suck. delta fans are nice, but they are designed for servers and industrial applications, and are loud as hell.

why is it so hard to make some proper fans :/

first, no, there is no stock anywhere
second, that's the wrong fan. it's not PWM version and that's the old scythe version that was discontinued years ago. it's very old stock and most likely a used repackaged fan.

this is what i need: http://www.performance-pcs.com/dark...-fan-550-1850rpm-58cfm-black-edition-pwm.html

EDIT: yea, i was right. description says, "OEM, no screws or 3-4pin adapter, fan only in non retail box". they were never sold that way. this is a used fan being passed as new and they didn't even bother repackaging it.

Yes these fans are perfect for radiators and AIO systems.
But 1850RPM version is not loud for me. I keep GT-A15 on full speed and no need to work on lower speed.

Problem with Gentle Typhoon is because they fast become dirty and cleaning them is very difficult, even with alcohol.
They are not as other fans, CORSAIR example, you clean them easy. If Gentle Typhoon become dirty than you will have really problems to clean them.
And fan could be imbalanced if you push blades a lot. Because of that Black version is welcomed.
I need three of them. They are expensive but worth if someone use radiator because no need to fans spin on lower speed than 1850RPM, on 2150RPM they become little noisy but far from other fans. Two I think to use on CPU AIO cooler and one on Hybrid radiator.

Ugh no, they are as easy or hard to clean as any other fan I've ever owned. I've got over 35 AP15s lol. Btw, GT's are probably easier to clean imo because the blades are thick and strong, the edges are not sharp also. This all makes them easy to wipe down with baby wipes.

I believe those are the custom Nidec orders by daz.

not exactly. they were custom ordered by darkside. dazmode is a darkside reseller. http://www.darksidemods.com/partners.html
i attached a picture of one of my GT's packaging. if you look on dazmode's own website, you'll see that they come in the same exact darkside branded packaging: https://www.dazmode.com/store/product/scythe_gentle_typhoon_1450rpm_58cfm_30db_fan/

Last I heard they stopped making them.

Nidec never stopped making them. all their fans are made only when ordered. it's just that scythe stopped ordering and reselling them. you can still get Darkside branded GTs. if you have pockets deep enough, you can ordered GTs directly from Nidec in 10K+ quantities yourself and resell them under the "erocker" brand or whatever.

Problem with Gentle Typhoon is because they fast become dirty and cleaning them is very difficult, even with alcohol.

nonsense. if you have dust filters on the intake fans, like most premium cases do these days, they wont get dirty at all.

if they do get dirty, you can take the impeller off in 15 seconds and clean the blades without any problems with a dry cloth. there is a snap ring that holds the impeller down behind the sticker. you take the snap ring off and the entire fan just comes apart. it took me about 2 minutes to clean an old scythe GT i bought on fleabay

i have one on my FuryX radiator. Never thought they are this good.

what makes the GT special in my opinion is that they do not have motor whine when you slow them down. this is a problem i have with Noctua fans. especially the redux line. i'm selling them off on amazon for cheap for this very reason.

with GTs, you can be going full blast at 1850 RPM when needed without being too loud, but slow down to 1000 RPM and be dead silent when you don't need much cooling. the 140mm, 2000 RPM vardar fans i have also don't produce any motor whine when slowed down. but i don't bother with 120mm vardars because GTs are just better performers

Darkside is his house brand. Look at the video, that's the man himself with a crate of GTs.

Aren't CoolerMaster Silencio a good alternative to Silent Typhoons? Also, EK Vardar fans use the same blade arrangement as typhoons... In fact they seem like a copy of typhoons...

Don't know about the CM, but Vardar are not as good and only similar in looks.

Below is test from Daz with a few fans including the Vardar.

It's interesting why people don't mention BeQuiet Silent Wings 2. 120mm model pushes 1.63mm H2O at 1500 RPM at only 15.7dB noise per manufacturer specs. Has anyone tested these? On paper it seems like one of the best options if you want pressure at almost absolute silence. It's what I'd need.

Something to keep in mind is that fan manufacturer specs are easily the most inaccurate specs you'll ever find.

Static pressure is static pressure. Same for airflow. And same for dB. It's all a measurable thing. Only thing they can't factor in for dB is the type of noise fans emit. You can have 20dB, but will make such stupid buzzing or whining it'll drive you insane for what's seemingly a very quiet fan.

@cdwall
That's some pretty insane pressure. Too bad they don't have those in 140mm. I'd take two for the intake. Thinking of replacing my Corsair AF140, but for some dumb reason Corsair stopped making SP140 models entirely. I don't get it why. They used to be available in both performance and quiet editions and now they are just entirely gone.

I need to go PWM way with all of them because Sabertooth X99 for some stupid reason doesn't allow DC fans to be adjusted below 60% fan speed even though they can easily run at way below that. Where PWM's can be controlled down to 30% I think. Would also be nice to have more pressure oriented fans on the intake since they have to fight with the dust filter and HDD cage. AF140 are doing a surprisingly good job, but I think pressure ones would work even better.

Yes, of course. I specifically checked for a marketplace seller and missed it.

I wouldn't put it past a marketplace seller to palm off something used as new. I remember that pirate copy of Windows 7 a client bought off such a seller once, where it was palmed off as legit, but wouldn't activated. Refund + big apology from Amazon issued forthwith when he complained.

For 120mm I use actually the Vardar-ER. I don't hear any ticking from it at really low RPM. Overall - does the job well and is cheap and available.

1.63 Is low for a fan to be used on a radiator.
I'd look for a pressure over 2.5mm
The Noctua industrial fans are quite good. (the dark brown units)
