AMD Opteron 6174 2.2GHz TDP 80W or 115W?

Hi everyone.

I have a curiosity, i have seen that AMD 6174 2.2GHz on some reviews is rated 80W and in some others is rated 115W :wtf:

Ebay rate it 80W

CpuBoos.com rate it 115W

C|Net rate it 80W

cpubenchmark.net rate it 115W

Been honest i am very confused :confused:

is this cpu 80W or 115W?

Is there someone here good in mathematics? :roll:

80W is the TDP (Thermal Design Point), 115W is the ACP, which is the power consumption, kinda.

So that's mean that 115W plus that's a 12c cpu if use it for crunch it will consume a lot of Electricity, am i right?

Depends on your definition of "a lot". Dunno specifics, you'll have to ask the serial crunchers for that.

I believe that you have that backwards. TDP is 115 watts. ACP is 80 watts.

o yeah lol. Yeah 80 is the watts and 115 is the max temp. before the CPU shuts off or goes into flame :eek:

Not much, but here is what system load looks like to a basic system with that chip under load.

It depends on clock speeds and models of course, but normally with crunching more cores is better.

The Xeon will beat it. Benchmark wise my pair of 12 core bulldozer based chips hold about even with my single 5820k.

If they are about same year and such (Meaning the Xeon ain't ancient compared to it), that 6 core 12 thread Xeon will out perform it at same clock speeds.
