Not on your card.... if your specs are correct

980ti gives good rates but a 670 will struggle. You'd need lower settings which nullifies the point of a 1440p experience.

IMO that is.

If that's the case, in my books its a nice jumps that gives good quality while not draining performance compared to 4K (Personally, its actually very hard to tell the difference between 1440p and 2160p/4K atm). I believe it is if you have the right card to run it.

I suggest you buy 2 more monitors like the one you have. I play on triple 1080p monitors if my GPU can max out the game at 5760x1080 while producing good FPS and revert to the good old 1920x1080 rez when the GPU can't. With triple monitor setup you get much larger FOV which makes games more immersive and for me this became a must for racing games. If you want one 1440p monitor, I would suggest you get 21:9 monitor, like the Acer Predator X34.

Are you really going to let a video like that put you off?! He spends 5 minutes to say he likes it, but somehow didn't appreciate that upping that piece of hardware would require more cost to keep the other aspects from dragging it down. Well no shit.

1440p isn't that big of a jump and my only advice is, don't get a larger 1080p monitor on that back of the advice in that video. A high refresh rate 1440p will bring you a noticeably better experience. Only those who haven't experience a better class of visual or audio hardware will tell you it's no big deal or not worth it. It matters and if you can afford it, get it.

I'm not a rich guy and i am saving up money for more important things but i can treat myself.
The biggest benefit to me would be the extra screen space and the larger monitor size, i currently have a 21.5 inch screen, which for 1080P is REALLY crispy, high PPI for a 1080P screen.
But then games will come out and knock the 400 odd quid for the 1070 into my head and think well i wish i never went there.

Definitely so. I went 1440 and can't believe I waited so long...I'd also highly recommend a Gsync or Freesync monitor, depending on your preference of GPU manufacturer.

I've had a 30-inch Dell monitor for nearly a decade now. That's 2560x1600.

Since buying that monitor, I've spent thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to get the performance that could push that res with decent FPS.

All it takes is one game you like pushing your GPU hard, and you'll have a need to upgrade again...

I say no to 1440P!!! Bigger monitor good? YES!! Higher res good? NO!!!

I also am thinking of 144hz 1080P, i already know the jump from 60 to 75hz visually is huge from just 15hz lol.

Depends on what games you play. Playing BF4 (Or other shooters) I notice a huge difference in the game play that even makes it hard for me to jump down at times back to 60hz (from 144hz). I also enjoy games like League of Legends at it, but do nto see any real benefit to games like Tomb Raider over higher resolution.

We've very similar monitors, in fact depending on when you bought them, the panel may be the very same. Altho I bought about 12 years ago when only 1 crowd were making that particular panel, more joined 2 years later.

The thing is, you have enjoyed that lovely display for nearly a decade and if you are a techie fella you would have been spending thousands on your toys anyway. You also get to chuckle when threads about DVI being ditched show up and posters saying only low trash use DVI ;p

I'm glad my monitors are holding strong, all 3 work perfectly. I recall thinking when they were nearing a decade old what possible replacements were available and the options were bleak. Thankfully, in the next 12 months there will be high refresh rate 4K monitors available, which I feel are the only upgrade path for me. And I'm more than aware of what GPU grunt will be needed for those :)

Large 1080p monitors looks gross. The pixels are much too big. My brother has a 27inch 1080p monitor and I shudder whenever I see it (I'm not joking).

Ok, I have actually 3k and 4k experience because I own a 50" 4k TV.
I don't play in 4k (2160p), I play in 3k (1440p), because I see virtually no difference to warrant the fps hit from 3k to 4k.. But there is a huge difference from 1080p to 3k, in picture quality..
So if you have a screen, that is like 30" or more (I can't vouch for smaller, but maybe them as well), you wold definitely see a huge visual improvement, going from 1080p to 3k.
Your gpu can't handle it though.
