Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming Fan Spikes

And most likely it will not defect. I wrote in Gigabyte technical support of another country. And they say that this sound may be a mechanical component, when starting the fans after stop mode.
In this case, it is not a defect. So I think the sound is quite acceptable.

food for thought, my gigabyte 970 G1 didnt have a fan off profile - and when people forced it, they found that the fans made some noises starting up at low RPM's (hence the typical burst to high speed on a system boot and slowing down)

Yep, I think so. A friend of mine stated that its probably a PWM issue with the fans.

Yeah, these fans definitely seem to have an RPM floor. I think Gigabyte can fix the start/stop mess with another BIOS update. They just need to lower the temperature when the fan turns back off. Right now it turns on at 50C and turns back off it goes below around 48C. If they reduced it to less than 45C, at least this wouldn't be happening very often.

they could possibly fix it by making it ramp up higher than it needs to, and then slowing rather than trying to start at the low RPM.

the question is, can they program the fan controller on the cards to actually do that, or can they only adjust the curve?

The fans run at low speed? Really? I thought that they start spinning at very high speeds , and we hear this "fan start sound". Or am I wrong?

most fans have a required voltage before they spin.
giga could have fans that take a big kick to start, and no BIOS change can fix that - only changes to make it start and stop less often, which means the same noise will happen just less often.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I updated to the F2_BETA BIOS, and it helped a little. Before, the fan start/stop loop occurred at 40C. Now it happens at 50C. Better, but still annoying. I tried using a custom fan profile, with the minimum fan speed set to 15%. This eliminates the start/stop issue, but for some reason the coil whine gets way worse (maybe because the clock speed goes higher?).

I have heard this issue with many users about the fans rattling. Did you contact their support center? What was their reasoning?

Yes. I wrote in Gigabyte Technical Support (Germany) about this sound, when the fans start spinning. They told me that the new BIOS will hardly solve this problem. Lately, I wrote in Gigabyte Technical Support (Russia) and they say that this sound may be a mechanical component, when starting the fans after stop mode. When the fan start to spin rapidly. He shifted slightly down.

No bios of the world could solve a mechanical/hardware problem. Simply don't buy Gigabyte if you want premium products, Gigabyte isn't really on that level. -> Asus/EVGA/MSI/Sapphire

This vendors use the same fans like a Gigabyte. Also, ASUS and EVGA has problem with fans too. You can check Youtube and find some videos about it.

Yeah and why do I never hear of that problems - and why is it, Gigabyte cards are loud and you can't fix it by tweaking settings - and why is it that Gigabyte has almost always bad settings on their fan curves stock? And why is it, Gigabyte is the main problem vendor in this forums? Yeah. Gigabyte is simply a cheaper brand, you pay less and you get less, thats it.

Unfortunately problems have absolutely all vendors. For example, I had 3 motherboards from ASUS and all had some kind of problem. I will not say that Gigabyte cheapest vendor, but it is cheaper than the ASUS but the quality should not be worse.

That doesn't change my opinion that GB isn't one of the premium brands, because there is a lot more to it than just a starting fan. Its noise too, cooling, build quality, looks and warranty.

Well to be completely honest, my card is quiet, even when gaming. And I don't have the coil whine. This would be my perfect card if the fans would work as they should. No grinding sound and all that nonsense.

BTW I didn't say GB is bad, I just said it's not as good as these 4 brands I mentioned earlier, that's it. My definition of premium is it has to be almost perfect in every regard.
