I don't know about that either. To me, a "mid-tier priced hotrod" uses a $200-250 CPU (see my specs). $400-500 is high end. CPUs and GPUs priced into 3 digits are either for people with specific needs or a tax on stupidity (strictly imho). Ymmv.

If these test get independently verified that 1ghz advantage the 7700k has over the 1700 isn't that impressive.

i think a good takeaway from these pictures would be the noticeable difference between 1700 and 1700x.

If the systems & benchmark locations are comparable that 200hz difference translate nicely into FPS. Much better then 5-7 fps you get OC the 7700k to 4.8ghz
