1050 vs 750 Ti

Would a 2GB 1050 (non-Ti) be worth it compared to my current 750Ti on my build? or would it be better to wait for the next generation and/or upgrade PSU later?

I currently run most games at medium/low at 1080p, without any issues, the video card is working fine

I am planning to upgrade the video card and the only requirement is that it mustn't have a power connection (my PSU doesn't have it and adapters seem to be unreliable) and the 1050 seems to be the the most powerful one without it

I think the 1050Ti is worth it.

non-Ti, not so much.

It's twice as fast. But the 1050 ti comes with 4GB vram, is even better than the non-ti and not much more expensive. A huge upgrade from the 750ti.

Upgrade from GTX 750 Ti to GTX 1050? What a silly question. That is until I looked at w1zzard's reviews.

The MSI GTX 1050 Gaming X 2 GB that w1zzard tested is almost as fast as the GTX 960, but it has a 6 pin power connector. BUT, in testing, the card's maximum power draw was 76 watts, which is only 1 watt more than the card can pull from the PCI-e slot. I think we can conclude from this that a GTX 1050 without a power connector would perform similarly to the card tested.
Therefore, it is a reasonable upgrade.

Then again, the MSI GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4 GB, which is about 20% faster (and handly beats the GTX 960) and has 2 GB more VRAM actually tested with the same power draw. (this actually makes sense because Nvidia "sister" cards often draw the same amount of power)

Recommendation: Get the Ti version and one of those LP4 to 6-pin PCI Express power adapter cable or DeLOCK Power SATA - SATA cable, knowing that you really won't be pulling any extra power through it anyway.

Just get a 1050 Ti without the 6 Pin. I downscaled for noise\power\heat and the 1050 Ti I'm using still does 1900 on the core without touching anything but the power limit in Afterburner. The additional power connector is totally unnecessary.

A 500W gereric PSU... for real? Bro, i highly suggest to replace the PSU as soon as possible...Generic PSU might burn your loved hardware in a blink of an eye.... ,
GTX 750ti could be in your rig for some months moar, replace that psu, get at least 80+ Certified unit, EVGA 500B are great and affordable options for upgrading and saving some money,

If you're still deciding on which video card to go with , i've seen the 1050ti for as low as US$130-$135. But as far as I know the 470 and 480 from A.M.D. Are a bit more powerful & pretty close to the same price, I own a GTX 750ti, it's installed in my nephews Dell OptiPlex and it's always worked fantastically. So I have to imagine the newer 1050 ti, is around 25 or so percent better plus it has more Vram

Decisions decisions, go with the AMD if you do lots of gaming ,but if you feel like you might do a lot of recording Nvidia GPUs have shadow play which has almost no effect on performance while recording I don't know if AMD has a similar function

Yes it appears you're correct, and it seems like AMD has not botched the performance either , hopefully this trend will continue and it won't get dumped like amd's last recording function when they dropped raptor

So now it's just a matter of whether or not the 50+ extra dollars for the 480 is a justifiable cost for the OP

With the driver updates $50 more gives you close to the same performance as a GTX 980 in many apps and some games.
Never before has so much enthusiast performance been sold at a mainstream price point.
