Razor blade.. Took about 2min and the nice thing is there's no tiny transistors under the lid to worry about hitting..How are you guys delidding on kaby?

Solaris isn't a hack n slash dude, I know he'll have no problems doing it if he does decide to.Mine is right as rain.
Just watch what you are doing and you'll be fine.
But yes, the substrate is thinner than in past generations. Just like Skylake. It's really a non-issue though - If you're very careful (and you should be unless you have a tree that grows money).

I'm still looking to buy an Intel chip. I was hoping for Ryzen but it looks as if that's a bad idea.
Thanks for sharing so why don't you tell us why?I'd take a Ryzen over the available Kaby Lake processors any day.

What plastic, did it come with the board or with the CPU?I guess no bending with my Skylake processor since it's working as expected and very low temps.
I have however left on some piece of plastic to place the CPU, as instructed by the manual.

Dragging this thread sideways again (sorry) and thinking about my options mentioned above, if I got a 1700, knowing currently that they don't really overclock well, is there any merit in just getting a decent B350 board that would still give me some overclocking where I don't need all the "Bells & whistle's"? For my Meagre needs is a 1700 @ 3.9 - 4Ghz on a 350 gonna compete with a Kaby 7700k on a budget/mid ranged 270 at 4.6gig even....... appreciating that I use little in terms of multithreading. At the end of the day, in the UK a 1700 costs the same as a 7700K although cost is not the primary factor for me.

Its still early... Also, it was the PCB being thinner and the pressure some heatsink had from clamping, not the weight, that would bend all corners of the PCB...No one as far as i know has posted here about this
mind you the www is a big place and i don't go everywhere
google shows very little
problems with "Skylake" bending were generaly user induced fitting to socket and massive heavy coolers incorrectly installed
Depends on my uses. If I could use more than 8 threads, sure.. why not it costs the same (for 1700)... otherwise, it costs more for.................... nothing if you don't use the cores.I'd take a Ryzen over the available Kaby Lake processors any day.

One game (2 threads), general browsing, some light office work and a bit of streaming. There is def a case for just getting a 7600K, I suppose my decision difficulties are pretty much because for the first time in a while there are genuine alternatives. When you say you do little in terms of multithreading, what do you do then? Are you talking about just for gaming then? If you are only talking gaming, go with the Kaby Lake. If you think there is any chance that the multithreading is going to be useful in the future, then go with the 1700/350 combo. You should be able to get a 3.8-3.9GHz clock on the 1700, and that will do just fine for gaming, and absolutely destroy a 7700K in mulithreading. But, yes, nothing really beats an overclocked 7700K, or even a 7600k, in singlethreaded performance.

Just had two corners on i3-7100k pcb bent using INTELs own PIB cooler. One of the legs did not drop right into the mobo hole - I pressed alternate legs and the last one obviously failed to "click". When I looked, I found leg on the mobo instead of in the hole. Cooler tilted and paste untouched, so removed carefully only to find both corners of CPU PSB had been bent. On inspecting the Asus mobo, found bent pins, so >£200 damage.
I think we'll go back to AMD if these crappy Skylake and Kabylakes aren't thickened back up. We've built some nice Ryzens lately that are benchmarking EXTREMELY well and giving massive VFM against Intel CPU's.
