AMD could launch some of its enthusiast-segment Ryzen Threadripper high-end desktop (HEDT) processors on July 27, 2017. On this day, you will be able to purchase PIB (retail) packages of certain models of Threadripper. You will also be able to purchase gaming desktops and workstations featuring Threadripper on this day. It is expected that AMD will launch about four SKUs, two 12-core, and two 16-core. The company could end 2017 with up to nine models. Accompanying these Ryzen Threadripper chips will be new socket TR4 (SP3r2) motherboards based on AMD X399 chipset. Some of these were showcased at AMD's Computex 2017 show.

Looking forward to some tests of the platform:peace:.

So looks like my reasoning was right. They will be launching Threadripper and Vega together. I think Lisa is pulling the right trigger, she didn't let the company launch Vega coming under pressure and have no availability and shut Raja up about it. Probably wanted to reduce hype since Raja has a hard time with keeping expectations in line and talking too much and delivering shirts and stickers only. lol

Considering I'm ticking along with half a computer atm, these couldn't come sooner.

Source by any chance? :)

Sounds about right lol

Looking forward to reviews, for multitaskers that is going to one hell of a platform.

I can't wait for benchmarks and a review. :lovetpu:

Thank you @jigar2speed :)
I know it may sound.. odd, but, well. Stealing, sorry i meant copy-pasting, the work of others is a trend nowadays, i get that much, but for tact alone (if not ethics), a source citing is customary :)

Vega could also launch on July 27... but hey

Sorry, it was too easy, couldn't resist

That's asking for too much IMO, let's just start by asking that they want to launch it. Then they can put a date.

How is that asking too much? Pretty sure they were already preparing to launch it at Computex. They better launch at the same damn time and I want to see bundles!

When is the last time AMD had a smooth release in all aspects?

Very good news... but in Italy August = all store closed for summer holidays.... So no cpu available until September. A question: anyone know some cooler to mount on it ? Motherboard availability ?

Nothing yet, but as usual, I'll be designing and 3D printing custom brackets for existing coolers :)

My fear is that this socket will be too big and some won't cover the whole IHS.

Dell/Alienware press-release isn't a The Verge-exclusive.

Whichever threadripper has the most cores and gets within 100mhz of the fastest version when both are oc-ed to a reasonable max, I'm buying. I fon't really need clockspeed, but if the difference is too big, there will be a significant difference in gaming and tbh anything above 8 cores has diminishing returns. Still, I have the money and little time for my hobbies like youtube and streaming, so any time saved during rendering is welcome.

Even online stores? Threadripper TDP is 125W for the 10-core and 12-core models, and 155W for 16-core. So most big LGA2066-ready coolers with compatible RM should do.

Hopefully that's the case. If they could launch products on time they'd do much better I think.

This really could be a game changer for content creators.

Not only is the price insane, but the efficiency will allow for interesting packages and money saved!

Isnt the dimensions going to be extremely different? Being the socket is huge at 4096 pins vs 2066? Not to mention how much more more rectangle the socket looks?

Expect real tdp to be around 100W for the basic 10-core, 110w for the x, 120w low-end 12-core, 125w x, 140w second x and 140-155w 14-core and up.

Intel is more efficient, but the TIM ruined it for them making threadripper the automatic efficiency winner. 140w for the 10-core and probably 165w for the 12-, 14- and 16-core because turbo boost 3.0 will make them use all the power they can get.

AMD isn't too far off stock frequencies according to leaks either and who knows, we may be pleasantly surprised with stock and oc-ed threadripper speeds.

Unless you need 4.8ghz oc, threadripper is the clear winner here.

I have a feeling they will not be much more different with the clock speeds as ryzen ~4ghz
