I got this really annoying problem with my CRT monitor, after i'm done cleaning it i'm always getting these streaks that correspond to my circular cleaning motions. My monitor is pretreated with factory anti-glare coating or something like that so the manual says that one has to clean it only with a bit of neutral cleaning solution and clean cotton free cloth. I tried using water and windex and that stuff cleanes everything but leaves these damn streaks. They do fade a bit and only visible if the sun shines on the monitor and only at certain angles but still its very annoying and doesnt do this nice monitor any justice. I'm wondering if anyone had experienced this and if there is a solution to this.

I just take some windex and an old rag, not a paper towel, and squirt some on the monitor 2 times. By the time I grab the rag, the stuff runs down the screen. After I wipe the whole screen down, I flip over to the other side of the rag which will be for the most part dry and wipe the screen again.

409?

thats what i use. also, dont scrub in a circle, instead scrub Up and down, working your way across.

Im always using a cotton cloth and I have contemplated doing exactly what you are proposing, but what really stopped me is that the manual says to use only a bit of liquid and apply it to the rag not the monitor itself. Do you think your method is unversal to all CRTs or is mine too delicate?

Edit: aximbigfan, what is 409 and where do i get it?

windex and news paper is the best combo for streak free clean.

I don't think that a monitor would be very sensitive to any cleaning method aside from using a belt sander to clean it

I use endust for electronics. No streaks for me.
