TPU can easily handle most of the tech news, be it phones/gadgets and whatever.

Sad to see it go either. I have been going to it daily as well.

Yeah I think that was it really , TPU already provides a comprehensive list of news.

Well NPU outlasted GamePowerUP! May they both rest in peace. :toast:

Never been to it ,to be honest I didn't even know it existed. but I'm lazy and definitely a creature of habit so that's not surprising. There could be a website called YouTube2, and I wouldn't go to it simply because of laziness or habit

also i couldn't comment on the stories the same way. Disquss/Google+ sign ins are terrible.

I didn't know the child site had any good stuff until now. I hope some sort of archived version stays on the net at least.

So, you missed almost all of RCoon's very good game reviews he did for two years? :p

Shame to see this go, its on my daily visit list and had a good mixture of all tech.

Does anyone have any alternatives?

News quality was so poor. It is only natural...

I use more the news/review RSS like section more. It is really enough, only the headlines. Copy paste in another sister site... too much hassle without own original content really.

I would've been opening to covering more cellphone related stuff here had w1zzard wanted that.

But there's my father's cancer, and all. Meh.

I have my hands full in the real world, no time for games ,never mind game reviews

If I get to play fallout4 ,for a couple hours a week I consider myself lucky.

I even have one of those origin access accounts, which gives me battlefield one & all the new EA titles . I haven't even downloaded any of them never mind played em. That reminds me anyone who hasn't gotten origin access should, it costS like seven bucks and it's a good deal. you get all the dead space titles, all the battlefield, Sims, all that crap ,and you don't have to have it stored locally just like steam ,so it's a nice option, for half of what Netflix cost a month it was worrh it

Logically you could just have the NPU writers write for TPU instead.

The spelling and grammar were often atrocious though, so that would have to be fixed first. Makes the site look really unprofessional when it's like that.

I did visit it for some game reviews and I like what I read, but the content was too inconsistent for me. And if you looked at the comment sections, there was no real value to be found, it felt quite dead.

Kudos for the attempt, but maybe its better to give your frontpage a long hard look, and convert that into a more attractive place to be - and stay - for more than five seconds. Get the feature stories out like that.

I actually read next power up but everytime I scrolled to the bottom of the article there was never a comment from any readers (never a good sign)

Anyone remember yougamer.com on the futuremark web site? That was a very cool PC game and graphic review web site but barely lasted a few years as well.

I wondered what it was. And I do play Sims...might have to check that out :D

@RCoon was the man till he shaved his head. After that i couldnt take him seriously anymore and constantly got distracted by the shing.

On a side note. Cant say im say to see NPU go. while it was generally informative, I feel that one or two of the news posters that posted there partially let it down by often posting inaccurate information.

It had its flaws but it worked alright. I popped on there every so often

The community involvement was the biggest thing imo. Half the reason i come to TPU to read the stories is so i can see what the nerdclowns here post in response (because it tends to restore my faith in humanity).

Like when the iphone airbuds story hit on NPU, i would have loved to see comments, but there were never any, and it seemed like the TPU crew couldn't be buggered with going through a third party posting service that's trackable / visible online.

sadly, from what ive read about it, expecting TPU members to consistently visit NPU, would be similar to my wife coming home tomorrow and saying, "Im gonna put a 2nd fridge outside" "Oh, and to use it, You'll need to sign up for a key @ the neighbors house"......"or you could just keep using the one inside, just like normal". which fridge do You think the family will end up using?

i understand the analogy isnt exact, but the point is sound. people dont like change, or having to do more, for what they could have right now for nothing. for people to go to NPU, it would need to have something people Want, that they cannot get here.

From what i heard, the original idea for NPU was to be like TPU. forums and all, but I think W1zzard didnt think it would take off so NPU was made as a placeholder while he decided what was to become of it.

This was one of the reasons why GN died even though W1zzard made it real easy for existing TPU members to log straight on without having to register. I was on there for a few months but didnt really bother with it again and thats why TPU now has a lounge section. We all wanted everything bought back in house and located in one place for convenience and thats what we got.

I think it can all be summed up in 2 words........

"New"-"Coke"

i liked the green colour.

It was news to me. I found out from the Twitter announcement, which was odd because up until a few months ago I was the person that handled social media outreach
I deleted Facebook a few months back and since then stopped the regular daily social media bumps. The news articles were always a thing hotly debated. They wanted them small enough for people to visit the site and quickly "check in" get their news and jump out, but long form journalism seems to be more popular these days (good for people like me). Grammar and spelling were not great on occasion, mainly due to the lack of a proof reader, and the authors themselves were not always native english speakers.

There was always a lack of communication between writers due to timezones, so sometimes the same article would get covered twice. Ideally writers needed to submit to a queue, that queue would be proof read by a reader and then approved, and then I'd swoop in and put the predicted hot stories on the Hero bar and circulate it on Facebook and Twitter. Sadly that process wasn't a thing, as it would have significantly slowed the progress of news throughout the day, again due to time zone differences.

In fairness the site didn't really "have the legs". We circulated stories on social media and on news aggregation sites. I pushed games and ran linkage everywhere. Even after two years of doing reviews and a weekly game series column on weekends I was barely pulling in more than 2K readers each article. What we offered was simply not what people wanted, evidently. Paying for advertising for a two month trial period only succeeded in getting us numerous bot followers which I then had to painstakingly remove (eight thousand to be precise). After two years of managing the social media, we jumped from 1.8K followers to 2.5K. Not really the growth you want.

I'll always feel mildly sad about it, it was my first proper gig. Maybe someday I'll carry the flag and do something with the YouTube channel. Time is a precious resource.

Wow, I read this nearly every day and found it very useful and informative. I had been getting a lot of 502 bad gateway errors of late but I assumed it was going to be fixed. Sorry to see it go.
Just saw that. Was about to make a very similar thread. This sucks. I love NPU. With you about it being useful and informative, not to mention interesting.

Was it's viewership really that low? :wtf: Guessing I was one of those 2k.. :nutkick: :ohwell:
