Any solid news on AMD refresh of the Vega cards?

Havent seen any news / rumors lately about AMD refresh of the Vega line, any hope of 7 nm this year?

Doesn't look likely.

However, they've just hired two heavyweight replacements to replace Raja Koduri, so hopefully we'll see some decent cards from them next year. Don't hold your breath though and the price is likely to remain sky high anyway due to miners continuing to buy them all up.

At this rate, I can see my GTX 1080 as being the last high end card I buy for years.

This is my concern regarding GPUs, if my 980Ti fails. Getting a 1070/1070Ti or Vega 56 replacement would cost more than twice what i payed for the card when i bought it in 2016, or a 1060 6GB for the same price

This is why modding my card has come to a halt. If I break something it's going to very expensive to replace.

I hope all modders out there take note & think what would you do if you break you card.

This is a really good point. I've never been keen on modding or overclocking my cards since I went NVIDIA, but a lot of enthusiasts rightly will want to. However, out of control costs cannot be ignored.

Keep it clean, replacing thermal compound/tape can lower temps further.

On another note start expecting AIB parts from Asus, Sapphire, XFX to appear on market late feb-April

Bang on, it's going to have its double precision compute adjusted to full speed and is set to hit the pro shelves at least half a year before we see it i think, sounds like they are adjusting to a more Nvidia centric type of product introduction, they were doing it the other way round until vega which in a way saw devs get first look with the founders card's, i think they got pushed back to near parity with consumer launch but i think memory procurement issues caused that.

That 980ti should be good for another 2-4 years at least, even in heavy use. Don't fret.. had a 780ti last until halfway 2017... it was still 100% fine, got sold.

I think in the next round, we going to see repeat of the 970, where the card is affordable (by comparison, mind you) and will be made in huge quantities. First they will wait to see what AMD has and shoot just above.

They've already shot above it 1,5 years ago, AMD will need a shrink to get on par...

Amd will stick to Vega till next year. By that time a better executed part line should arrive. I doubt they will shrink the die for this line.

Yup, RTGs priority is the Vega-powered APUs and MCMs. It sounds like RTGs not really doing anything new until they can produce it on the 7nm GloFo fab which is later this year (second half) at the earliest.

The Ryzen CPUs are getting a 12nm refresh this year...it's not impossible that Vega could too. I think the kinks in Vega are going to prevent that from happening though.

I heard a rumour Amd had contracted Taiwan semiconductors for some chips but cannot remember the node and I don't think the chip was mentioned tbh , could be @Ford i think 12nm vega got sidelined because Amd knew their stock was gone regarding gpus and regardless of node so why bother.
Instead they talk of vega everywhere , notebooks done big desktop done , Apus done , consoles?? But I think a Polaris sized vegas got to be on the cards ,though polaris is still selling well.

Guys, i think you are missing the point here.
The point here is not fulfill the market. The point is AMD delivering a Vega with all features working fine. thats all.
The market is another story. And im buying Vegas working or not.
Im happy with my rig with 6x Sapphire Vega 64.

Well, the point of the topic is Vega refresh that is necessary because Vega did not work for games as advertised.
The point is AMD is being a big failure despite its recent success in CPU market.

Do I have to remember you the R9 290 94 degrees of fiasco?

AMD is out of the game.
But now, thanks to the miners, Nvidia is also out of the game and that makes it even.

Do anyone believe AMD and its 7nm bullshit?

PS. I'm 43 years old and I've never owned an Nvidia card.
I'm Fucking tired, deliver or close!

Never had a 290 issue, sorry. Im thinking March-May AIB vegas will show, remember some vega parts are becoming igp for intel cpus and along that APUs for AMD.

But unfortunately, I did not replaced my R9 290 in time so I'm sill gaming with it.
Can't pay those prices and to be honest, I think is time for my first Nvidia since ATI Rage Fury Pro.

I just think it is odd AMD making such huge mistakes in series.

About the R9, man, the card with the original bios is scary. I mean it. I makes u jump from your seat while gaming.
Looks like a BOING 747 in your room.

this is the longest ive kept one gpu in years... i bought the titan Xpascal and its been an amazing card. still performs brilliantly... runs at 1933mhz under stock cooling...
sorry back on topic, the word is no refresh until 2019....
