The PC requirements for the latest, upcoming iteration of Forza Horizon (now in its fourth installment) have just been outed. Of course, you wouldn't expect these to be much different from those of Forza Motorsport 6. Forza Horizon 4, developed by Microsoft Games Studios' Playground Games, will launch on October 4th, and promises to take you to new heights in arcade racing.

Being a Games for Windows game, of course, means Windows 10 is part of the minimum requirements - specifically, version 15063.0 of the OS (the Creators Update released back in 2017). Catch up on the rest of the requirements after the break - but if you have an Intel i3-4170, or an NVIDIA GT 740/ AMD R7 250X, you're gold for the minimum.

Minimum
  • OS Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher
  • Architecture x64
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • DirectX DirectX 12 API, Hardware Feature Level 11
  • Memory 8 GB
  • Video Memory 2 GB
  • Processor Intel i3-4170 @ 3.7Ghz OR Intel i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz
  • Graphics NVIDIA 650TI OR NVidia GT 740 OR AMD R7 250X

Recommended
  • OS Windows 10 version 15063.0 or higher
  • Architecture x64
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • DirectX DirectX 12 API, Hardware Feature Level 11
  • Memory 12 GB
  • Video Memory 4 GB
  • Processor Intel i7-3820 @ 3.6Ghz
  • Graphics NVidia GTX 970 OR NVidia GTX 1060 3GB OR AMD R9 290x OR AMD RX 470

Interesting that the Recommended spec has an HEDT processor listed.

Can't wait to play this my all time favorite racing game.

This game must be hella optimized

I play it on Xbox one x because windows games are a pain in the ass to download

Yeah that stood out to me too (*E: The HEDT). Actually all a bit weird, mouse and keyboard listed? Odd its there at all, but if you are listing control input devices, why not a wheel or a controller? No AMD CPU listed. And the recommended hardware is half a decade old? Does this mean a straight console port then?

More people play this game on Xbox I do believe.
I prefer xbox/ windows games on xbox because downloading games from the windows store is a pain in the ass always gets error messages when downloading or it will restart out of no where.

I dont doubt it.

TBH, my main issue is having any recommended specs without stating what they should achieve. I mean MONSTER HUNTER had a 1080p@30 rec spec. Joke and all as that was, at least you knew what the intent was for the listed hardware.

Ubisoft's last few releases has had several specs and expected results listed, I think thats the way everyone should do it.

GTX 650Ti or a 740? I don't get it. The former is almost twice as fast as the latter.

God I hope so..Horizon 3 was a mess on PC. It still has a few problems. A GT 740 as minimum? That has to be 720p or lower to have any kind of frame rate with that card and this game.

Set to console level detail...

Seriously.. Forza 7 was freaking 100gigs. But I bear with it.

Pretty sure that win ver has dot at wrong place. :D

Sadly requirments wont actually say how it will look and move. At least min req. looks as very lightweight, thus maybe some optimalization?

Reason for HEDT is most likely physics (you can have thread for each car on track).

Also missing HDD space.

Someone already said it was around 98gb for Xbox download. Because they released it early for some Xbox users by mistake

The Xbox One X is pretty powerful
Only the GPU is powerful. The CPU is so slow that it might even be outclassed by current phones.

It’s not that bad. Faster than a Atom plus consoles aren’t as dependent on the CPU as PCs

Seems pretty odd. What a weird chip.

There's really nothing "weird" about the CPU. It's the recommendation, that's "weird". My i7-3820 is still working beautifully in my X79 system.

Yeah, but it seems like they are suggesting that you need quad channel memory in order to play the recommended settings. Why not recommend a 3770k?
The CPU is also weird.... Seems kinda like buying current HEDT mobos, but slapping an i7 into it...... At least they gave you guys quad channel memory back in that day.

You are right, but the current consoles would benefit much more from a better CPU than upping GPU from this point onwards. Memory is plenty (8 Gb), but even 2 Gb more would result in much higher quality textures. Let's hope next consoles will ship with four core Ryzen, what would be reasonable to think, though the performance difference between that and the Jaguar cores is tremendous.

It is sad if game's get limited by CPU power, since you really need CPU to push data for the GPU, and in many cases physics and other game logic depends on the CPU and those are the features that make many games more fun to play and what you can innovate with as a developer. Weak CPU and strong GPU just means visual fidelity, but is there any meaningful gameplay ideas to be added which utilizes today's technology with those Jaguar cores?

At the same time we could get 7 nm Vega cores paired the new CPU, maybe amount of 40 or close to that in a good case. A powerful console would mean graphically intensive ports for the PC players like us and I'm all for that.

...On topic though, I'm considering buying this game when it gets cheaper. I like a good balance of arcade and simulation in rally games, though I found recently Dirt Rally to be an awesome experience as a pure rally simulator.

I wish MS just gave up on consoles period and went full gusto into promoting PC gaming (maybe even migrating an Xbox interface/game mode to Windows too). Like a whole rethinking and massive "Games for Windows" push. It needs to be the base, rather than the second/afterthought platform.
