So this topic is an update to this one
i took my card to the shop last week for testing so i can rma
he started by stressing it with msi kombustor and surprisingly there was no coil whine ( at this moment i was 100% sure it was my psu ) then when he tested on game (Resident evil 2 )the whining start again so he took the card and send it to an after sale service to decide if it was worth rma
today he called me and said that they fixed my card and told me to come and get it tommorow
now i have 2 question
1-why there was no coil whine with msi kombustor (that should be worst case scenario)
2- can they actualy fix coil whine ??? cause i asked them if they replaced my gpu they said no yours is fixed

Tell the shop to point out on the card where they "fixed" it. Make them take the cooler off the card if need be.
The only "fixes" I can think of would be to coat components with hot glue or nail polish, and neither of them is a fix. They could have replaced parts on the card, but that is well beyond what the normal expectations would be.

Also, did you record the serial number prior to taking it to the shop to ensure you can verify if the card was swapped or not?

Yeah... I can't see how it was just... fixed. The GPU isn't the part responsible. A few different parts of the power section can vibrate under certain power scenarios. The namesake is inductor whine... inside those cube-shaped inductors is a coil. If it's loose in the encasement, it can rattle and make that terrible sound. Capacitors do it too... but it's a slightly different sound.

Either way, same story. Bracing them with glue can dampen the sound but isn't really a fix. Over time it can dislodge and you're right back where you were.

The only true fix is to replace the components responsible... which can be expensive and time consuming... not to mention risky. Hardly worth it.

Sometimes it gets better with time. Another thing to consider is that often it is load dependent. Not nessesarily the highest load, either. Higher frame rates are a common cause. Less load can more readily facilitate that, where a stress test may make it impossible to hit the frame rate that triggers it. For my card, it becomes evident when I hit a load screen with vsync disabled and it jumps over 300fps. Again next to no strain on the GPU... it's a loading screen with one simple, spinning object. But because of that it's free to run wild and shout at the moon :p

Vsync or a frame cap can make it a non issue. Might give that a shot if you're not already. Otherwise yeah... not much you can do but replace the card. And don't play around. There is no other way. You may have to pursue your own RMA claim and ask explicitly for a replacement.

I'll be pretty surprised if it's gone... assuming it's the same card. More likely they weren't able to reproduce it. I dunno it just sounds fishy to me.

I'd guess that they "fixed" it by just giving you a new one.

You can still vsync with 144hz. It just limits to...144fps. it will prevent cut scenes and easily drawn frames from going into the thousands which often causes whine.

i will give you an update tomorrow

i capped fram in pubg at 144fps still had coil whine when i capped at 60 its gone

the shop warranty paper has the sn of the card

There's no way that I know of to fix coil whine w/o modding the chokes in some way, ie. glue or some other damper... or maybe they flashed a slower bios... who knows?

Hey im from algeria too and i got coil whine on my gtx 1660 after 10 months of using so did they really fixed it for you ? or its still here ?

Coil whine on graphics cards is either unstable power supply OR bad graphics card that needs to be replaced

Every Nvidia card I've had in recent years has sang to me.
EVGA GTX 1060, Gigabyte 1070ti and now my Zotac 2080s.
The 1060 sounded like a flying saucer.
The 1070ti sounded like Gizmo singing
The 2080s is almost a dog whistle.

Guess you should have replaced them according to the post above yours. :p

That's your call.

If it bothers you enough to go through the not trusted warranty, than do it. If not, don't.

If it's really that LOUD, first try another power supply, if it's doesn't help, use the warranty service. They should fix/replace it even in Algeria. Especially there, if they don't, it means they're CHARAMEYIA and you could make a FAUDA there.
