hey guys gals question, what would cause my fps to be cut in half? I was playing r6 yesterday and my frames were at 210 roughly. And all day today they’re sitting at around 130. I didn’t touch any settings or anything so I’m confused on what happened??
my build is a 2700x
Zotac 2070 super
With 16gb of ram at 3200

should start with monitoring your pc activity, i once get the same problem, my card somehow goes to idle state, it refuse to proper work, a completly restart or reinstall gpu will fix this, maybe

What is R6

Did the game get updated or something?

You guys arent keeping touch with what the kids these days are playing, it's rainbow 6, but not one of the real old ones, the new one that is r6 in name only ;o

I would say there's probably a change - somewhere -
Check your gpu/gpu utilization and temps. And do go over your game settings to ensure it your settings and not some update resetting to a potentially higher preset.
Make sure you've not anything suspicious or unwanted running in the BG eating up cpu or gpu cycles etc etc

Tbf idc about what games are played today or not. I have bills and school to contend with for an A&P License and a Fiancee. (LIFE)

He doesnt mention what resolution or monitor he is playing with or how old the rig is what power supply he is using, what specific ram he is using or what drives and os he is using, what his TSRs are either.

You do realise it was a joke right? Dont be so serial, I too have been working for nearly 2 full decades now, tho I've not been fooled into putting a ring on anyone's finger just yet ;)

Well he could be stuck on a non boosting GPU. Cant say i've had it happen on my 2070s, but it was a constant feature on my GTX 970 on every other driver update seemingly and reloading the drivers would usually fix it.

For such a drastic fps drop, i can think about a automatic game update, or a driver update, but not having neither the 2070 o rainbow 6 siege i can't verify. As asked by @eidairaman1 we need more info, it's best if you fill the system info inside the account.

you might want to check what power plan its on if its stuck on powersaver it would cut your frames in half. my last post was deleted some folks don't have any humor what shame eh :)

It’s a shampoo brand

Sorry only mentioned the info I thought mattered. Monitor is a sceptra 144hz. Newly built pc and the power supply is cx650m. Bronze blah blah. Ram is Corsair vengeance 2x8 3200. SSD for boot up, hdd to store games, and honestly no f***ing clue what tsr is. New to all this

I’m 27! Not that young. Just a nOoB. And yeah R6S. SORRY GUYS. Lol also would ram affect fps that drastic? Think I have a dead ram slot in my motherboard (x470 gaming plus msi) so I switched to slot 1&3. And it’s working fine but that’s when my fps dropped. On slot 2&4 it would shoot up 60+ frames. So lost in the sauce

it should be resident evil 6 i guess
That would be RE6...

Did the game get updated or something?
Nope! Although feels like steam updates... something everyday

A dead ram slot would result in one module not showing up. If you didn't touch anything there's no point in switching things at random. Look at the software side of things as others mentioned. Look for cpu utilisation while playing the game, temperatures etc. Verify that you're game settings didn't reset to defaults etc. Since you're running it at pretty high fps I suspect you're using 1080p display, correct?

Them CX power supplies are baaaaaaaaaaad

Yes is there an app I could run while playing a game to display it?

Doodoo bad? All the reviews made it sound great though!

MSI afterburner and rivatuner osd to display specific values.

The thing with reviews is that the testing only lasts a few hours. Long term usage is something else entirely and i have had multiple troubles with the CX line up as have others when it comes to using it with a higher end system with them.

I wouldnt call them poo poo bad but there are better units you can get with your money. $60-80 will get a really good EVGA unit thats made by FSP. Ive replaced all faulty CX units with them and they are still going strong.

I dare say that reviewers might get good cherry picked units sent to them while what actually rolls off the production line are slightly different because it saves corsair money, but this is of course a tinfoil hat conjecture.

I say this because the same company that makes corsairs CX power supplies also makes their higher end HX, TX, RM and some RMx units -- These units are 100% solid but of course cost more money. So the OEM definitely knows how to make good power supplies and has a long history with Corsair so they have that experience behind them.

That leads me to believe that the components used inside the CX line are really cheap and while they can hold up to a few hours of testing for a review and also gaming. The components inside deteriorate faster than those of more expensive units.

A lot of people will doubt my opinion because they have had good luck with the CX line up. But lets see how loud they talk after their CX PSU passes the 3 year mark. 'IF' it even makes it anywhere near the 3 year mark.

Hey so with a completely stock system my GPU in game is running around 60 C and 63% usage and the CPU is around 53 C and 61% usage. All settings have stayed the same.

Good to know! Thanks. So I should probably swap out relatively soon I’d imagine. I was looking at evga too. Should’ve went with my gut. Now I know!

And I also paired the 2700x with a AIO. If that helps

going to assume my GPU is bottlenecking? on multiple sites they have claimed the 2700x and the 2070super pair very well together so am i missing something? all power saving modes are set to performance (nvidia control panel and all of windows 10 settings) nothing is OC at the moment except setting the ram to its rated speed. (3200). both CPU and GPU are sitting around 60% while gaming. no apps in the background. setting the resolution to 1440p did make my GPU jump to 90%. but im looking to play on 1080 for more frames. maybe I should upgrade to the 3800x??

Not really, your GPU is underutilized at 1080p that's why you're getting lower usage (probably settings aren't maxed out?). Bumping res to 1440p is what makes actually work a sweat, which is correct. Question is - what FPS are you getting and what numbers are you expecting from your setup.

Here's a bench of 2700x and 2070:

Run it on your PC and compare results. All the ingame settings are listed in the video.

Okay I’ll try this when I get home. From what I see in this video he’s running the exact same settings as me but with rendered scaling set to 100 while mine sits at 50. And I’m pulling the same numbers, around 150fps. And mine is a 2070super. I know it’s not a huge upgrade but should do little better than that if hope

Was expecting around 250 on 1080p very high settings. Which I was getting a month ago when I first built it. Last night it was at 190, today it was at 150. Didn’t change a thing

So just a quick question, why the res scaler at 50%? 250fps doesn't do you much good with a 144hz monitor. Higher does not equal better.

Have you verified that your ram is actually set to 3200? You sure it didn't default to 2400?

Are you running Geforce Experience, if so make sure it didn't "optimize" anything. Like, set a resolution scale or sth?

Verify power plan settings in windows?

Also, you could consider restoring W10 as one possible "workaround". I know it's a pain.

Ps.
AFAIK if you're running render scaling at 50% you're rendering the game at 50% of actual resolution, so you end up with a blurry mess. Suggest setting it to 100% unless you're really craving super high fps.

Alternatively this might be a result of some shoddy drivers or Ubisoft messed something up with latest update for the game.

Edit.

Guy had similar FPS drop, reinstalled windows, FPS back to normal.

Honestly not sure and I don’t need 250 frames. Long as I’m north of 140 I’m happy. But I noticed the change so I was concerned.

Okay I’ll try these out. Thanks a lot guys

It’s their way of getting back at me for pirating Windows

Few things you could do.

One - remove Geforce experience application.
Two - check to be sure card isn't stuck in a power state (should be boosting)
Three - check v-sync settings.

This too.

Thank you for reporting this to us.

Please head to the .exe file in your Steam directory, right click it, select Properties, Compatibility and select to 'Disable fullscreen optimizations'.
