Hey All,

Chaoticatmosphere here and it's been a while since I posted my Ultimate Vortex II build 10 years ago. Well safe to say I needed an upgrade, so I ripped out my Crosshair IV Extreme, RAM, cooler, FX-8150 CPU and installed a Core i7-9700k with an Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI GENE and an Asus RX5700-8G Radeon reference card GPU. It's amazing how quiet the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition Cooling Fan is compared to the Zalman 9900 was. It's like night and day.

Totally cool upgrade.

very nice build there mate, well done.

Nice to see a HAF case, wish they still made those.

It sure is a gem. Though the mATX ROG MAXIMUS XI GENE makes it look like overkill lol.

Really nice case and overall really nice build.
Hopefully after we all get tired of RGB and glass, manufacturers will go back to high airflow designs.

They have high airflow designs too, they're those naked bike equivalents you see out there, ie dust collectors.

But yeah, return of practicality would be a great thing.

@OP nice build and that is a LONG time since the last one then, or did we skip on a few here on TPU?

No, I didn't skip. Went straight from AMD BD FX-8150 built in 2011-2 to the i7-9700k. My previous one served me well. It's going to go into a mid tower with a new CMOS battery then handed down to my better half's daughter for her Minecraft gaming. The Radeon HD7970 still has a lot of kick to it!

I haven't used one yet but the new brushed darksteel look on the updated Hyper 212 looks really classy. Much better than the RGBLED rainbow vomit that most people are going for these days ;)

It is. Believe it or not, I didn't even purchase everything based on aesthetics, it just worked out that way. I wanted something ASAP so it had to be in stock (I work as an account manager for an IT VAR so I have access to IT products at our cost in the distribution channel). Believe it or not the MAXIMUS XI GENE was the only LGA1151 mobo in stock and it turns out the Hyper 212 matches that brushed metal look. The Asus RX5700-8G reference GPU does too
