I bought this LG monitor off of a friend and the screen sort of died on me. It started to get flashing lines going across it and everything I could find on the matter basically suggested that it was dead. I managed to find a replacement screen to put in, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get the back panel off without absolutely destroying it. Most LG repair video suggests that it is held on by clips, but any amount of leverage I put on any corner feels like it is going to snap the panel itself before a clip will pop out. I’ve gone between LG and 4 repair centers and no one seems to know how to get it off.

Thought I would ask you wizards if you might have an idea that will help me out?

Videos I see all show clips, and most videos show clip locations. The only way to get in is to wiggle something plastic (as not to scratch) in the groove, and press the clips towards the center of the TV to unlock them from the steel inner frame.

You may be able to find a tool on ebay or amazon, but I am unsure of what they would call them other than TV screen removal tools. Maybe an iFixit kit exists for your needs.

That sparked a realization for me thank you so much!

I actually had some old automotive trim tools for taking off the panel of the door in one of my vehicles. One of those was a longer wedge that is made of plastic that did exactly what you suggested.

I attached a picture of the tools as well as the clip locations on the inside of the monitor backing so that anyone in the future who struggles like I did to take this thing off can see where they should push the trim tool in.

The four screws on the back did need to be removed before doing this of course. I do not recommend pulling at any of the corners; if they are leveraged up it will definitely break the panel. Driving the wedge of the trim tool into the side of the monitor cover seemed to be the best way to get the clips to pop out.

It may also be helpful to note that starting at either of the top corners is best, because the clips at the bottom are anchored in to hold the panel in place while it is being pressed into the other clip positions.
