My GPU dying? Constant shadow flicker in Valheim and a few other games.

Only reason I did is bios doesn't match the board serial.

I honestly can't see the squares you are talking about, care to highlight?

The little white squares but someone has just pointed out it's part of the game (checked on youtube) so all is ok.

Any issues with the card sofar with the new BIOS update?

it would be these but apparently it’s just part f the “style.

No issues. As mentioned I think this might actually be a gigabyte board someone slapped an EVGA cooler and serial sticker on. Nothing about it makes sense being an EVGA product. Also the serial sticker is in the wrong spot from what I've googled.

Yep. You'd have to see it in motion. It's not as bad as a still shot looks. And it's correct.

Hey Man as long as it‘s not artifacting anymore and it’s running properly I’d say it’s a win! Nice save!

Yeah, but now we know what type of games he likes. ..I'm all out Dungeon Crawler.
Yeah I need to see what this one is all about. I do Steam Library share with a few close friends, one grabbed it but I formatted last week so i need to reacquire his library so I can take it for a test drive See what all the hype is about.
Im more of a looter/shooter guy myself

Perhaps that could be a thread of it's own where users can share steam games officially via the steam apps. Not sure if it's allowed on TPU.

I usually have all my slots full but I try to rotate my friends. I have almost 600 games so everyone wants my library

No one likes the same games as me, it's ok. I'm used to it.

I have 88 on steam, but I normally have the full package including OST & season pass...

Example : Warhammer: Gladius + all DLC including OST (New DLC in the works)..Pending
Example2: X4 Foundation + all DLC including OST. ..Awaiting new DLC Releasing next week Tuesday
Example3: Resident Evil 2/3/7 mostly full package including Resident Evil Resistance

Early Access: Second Extinction ....Err can't play this, still on win 7
Early Access: Baldur's Gate3 ....This can't be shared.

Alright so I've played Valheim a little now and the screen shot is accurate. He's fixed it!

I have yet to play the BioShock collection. I snagged it on sale quite some time ago maybe this year is the year to try it.

Yeah I need to play the Remasters, I'm kinda of a "game hoarder" and I clearly have a HUGE backlog...

It is. Gigabyte bios of all things worked.

I think it was more wrong memory timings in a crossflashed ebay card.
they're talking about the rain and wind effects in the valheim shot - you can spot the people who havent played it as its graphical system looks bland in screenshots but amazing in motion and the truly finished effects (like the water) are visually beyond what most games achieve

Wrong memory timings totally seems to have been the issue, someone put a different cooler and then thought it was EVGA and flashed the wrong BIOS and assumed it was good to sell

That's because they are busy. If you look at the update history they are pushing out updates every few days. They can't be in two places at once & probably have enough bugs to deal with. To tell you the truth, I sooner they spend time on the game pushing out updates than spending time in forums.
LOL....

what part of needing to hire more people did you miss?

Bought used and you're not surprised its mislabeled?

@DeathtoGnomes

Yes, they could hire more staff, but they don't have time to appear in forums, maybe the same applies to job interviews.

Just bought a few of the items below. I bet you can't guess where I'm going to put them.

Considering it came in what was supposedly an original evga box, yeah, I'm a tad surprised. It's a weird level to go to to merely switch brands on me. But it did initially seem to be what happened.

Surprised a used card is giving me issues? No, that part is caveat emptor and all that jazz.

To all watching, the card literally just up and died on me. Coolio, that was a brief fix. Fortunately evga was helpful and did confirm this is indeed an XC2 based on a few idenifying traits. They are covering it under their transferable warranty. I've yet to hear how their stock situation is though...

Since the card was already defective I may not mention the crossflashing shenanigans and play stupid there since the previous buyer started it anyways. If asked directly, of course I'll have to be honest though... darn goody two shoes I am. Just not spitting out info they have yet to request.

I'll keep you guys informed how it goes. Pandemic RMA powers activate!

GTX 1060 installed for now. May god have mercy on my FPS.

Aww...what a sad turn of events. Couldn’t be a worse possible time to have to RMA a card. I was literally panicking last week when my card suddenly started black screening/hard locking when I put any 3D load on it no matter what settings or driver/OS Format was fixing it. The thought of having to RMAing it was terrifying...

Well that's unfortunate.

I did find it strange you had the card all that time without issues & not notice it & then say a BIOS update fix it.
It sounds to me like you have an "High Resistance" fault, but it could just as well be an memory chip starting to go faulty.

I hope they can repair it. ..It's going to be a long wait. Painful

Why can't luke just come and annoy yoda to death like in RoTJ, so I can just get my damn GPU. Overdose on your ketamine already you cheeky green...

Ah, I am fighting with yoda over GPUs again. Time to get more caffiene...

without issues
Not entirely true. It always had issues in port royal, since day one, though they got worse with time. I just assumed for months they were because that was a glitchy demo.

@R-T-B fixes his used GPU, but then it dies anyway and needs RMA'd:

@rtb

If the card was giving you problems with port royal "in short test" when you first received it, then I would have looked into it straight away, & not leave it after all this time. As at this point, It could have been just an heat issue, & may could have been fixed with better thermal paste/pads.

I would only have done this If the cards warranty sticker was already tampered with as this indicates the card was opened-up previously.

At the time I assumed it was a driver issue because other benches ran fine.

Critical mistake, yes. I reran it only a few days ago to find the same errors present but only massively worse, and realized my sin.

I'm confident it wasn't. I had the thing done with good paste and pads as soon as I got it, part of my standard used card procedure. The memory always ran hot, but not because of bad pads I assure you.

This was a defective card possibly sold on ebay knowingly defective, in which the previous buyer aparently was tampering with bios to try to fix it. So who knows. I'm just going to be straight with EVGA and see what happens. It might help I have a metric button (nearly $1k) of store credit with them from when one of their cards literally murdered my HEDT mobo and CPU (yes, I keep buying their stuff anyways, maybe I should stop).

Oh it's outragous, but it's not unfair. I asked for everything that happened here but the pandemic. It's the price of used cards.

Haha I know. Just trying to pile onto the Star Wars meme train @Athlonite started. You win some, you lose some. Just sucks that you lost, especially at this point in time
