OFFICIAL Star Citizen

Probably because they have not passed the begging hat around lately :) :p.

Chris Roberts doesn't have to. Gamers stand in line to throw money at him in adoration. According to their website Roberts has raised almost 370 million dollars so far and the single player Squadron 42 is nowhere in sight. That's all I care about is Squadron 42 but Roberts isn't going to get a penny from me until it's finished.

I don't think Star Citizen is a scam like a lot of gamers do. It's just horribly mismanaged.

Seems like a great living. They are running on the promise of eventually delivering. They just need to do enough to outlive their supporters. I would never invest in something like this, but all I know is that I personally have gone from being an every-night gamer to rarely-to-never gamer over the course of this game’s development. Too many other things in life to take care of now.

yeah ive found that u needs more than 16 gb for it run properly, do u still get ram jump in the train with 32 ?
Yeah game it's eating memory like crazy but even with a lot of ram and great GPU&CPU it's still working bad....

The performance of the game is okay. I get good enough fps. The loading time is rediculous. It takes me over 5 minutes to load into the game with a NVME ssd and 32gb of memory.

Hmm....What is "good enough fps"for you?I will be happy with 60 fps but that is almost impossible....heck I will be even happy IF game can give me constant 30 fps because sometimes have those fps drops bellow single digit numbers....srry but that's just ugly.......sure maybe I don't have great GPU but I know that also people with 3070,3080,6800...also have those silly fps drops in certain areas of the game...so there is that....

Area18/Babbage etc and all other crowded places are pretty much unusable. After a while RAM usage leans towards 20GB witch is kinda insane. But free RAM is wasted RAM.

DX11 API cannot handle those places, thus the suboptimal CPU usage and bad FPS. They are slowly injecting Vulkan compatible code to split the render thread. They broke SLI as a proof of that :D

I can't believe I kickstarted this game in 2013 and have only played it for 10 mins. I only did the $25 option if my memory recalls, so that was a good move at least.

there is no way to a original backer could have foreseen the time it has taken to get to this point imo

Good enough doesn't mean that I don't want more fps. I seem to have a constant 40 fps with the occasional frame drop. I am used to 120 fps but I don't expect that here.

I'm an original backer. I bought the Colonel package. I was so excited for this game that I then immediately went out and purchased a Obutto R3volution cockpit, 4 butt kickers (one for each corner) all new flight controls, rudder, throttle and stick, I then purchased special software to run the butt kickers and I think I was all in at over 2K invested not including the backing for the game. Fast forward to 2021 and I just sold that cockpit this past weekend. I kept the kickers and controllers but the cockpit is now gone. I waited years for this game and I expect to wait some years more. No need for a full cockpit sitting next to my desk.

I do hope it releases in my lifetime. I'll be 49 in 6 months. By the time it releases, my pilot handle will be Geriatric One.

I found this interesting performance tracker. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/telemetry

For comparison:
5950x = ~425 CPU score
3600x = ~150 CPU score
GTX 3900 = ~475 GPU score
GTX 1070 = ~150 GPU score

It seems that the best possible hardware combination, a 5950x and GTX3090, at 1080p get about 50 fps on average. The game is very alpha still. Performance will improve without a doubt.

yeah... agreed. I really would be ok with my $25 refund from original kickstart of it honestly. I doubt they make it easy to do that though, so meh, oh well lesson learned. I actually have only used Kickstarter I think once since then. So Kickstarter itself should be pretty mad at them imo, they made them lose customers.

I thought maybe 3 years max at the time of my investment. lol... ah I used to be so young and naïve...

New epeen metrics :D

One day we will look back on this and realize that all the money invested in the game could have been spent to make this a reality in our lifetime.

I think of it otherwise. Easy come easy go... either way spend money that has came from additional jobs as an extra, no main budget that mostly goes into piggy bank, either way I would have spent it on craft beer or in a pub...

It's been so long since I backed this game that the money doesn't matter to me. I'd just like to have a finished game to play eventually. So much time has gone by that I don't even care how long it takes any longer. Again, I just want a finished game at some point to play. I figure I'll be gaming till I die so I have a good 25-35 years left. (god thats a morbid way to think about this game)

When was the last time you tried the game? I ressurected this thread because there is a whole space systems worth of content to play with now. It is a buggy, poor performing, alpha mess but there is something to do now. There wasn't much when I last tried the game in 2018. Now there is and it is fun to experience.

Hmmm that is a good question. I am not sure but it was back when we could walk around the space station and fly around in a small training area if I remember correctly.

Yes. Benchmarks are fun.

I don't understand how your load times are so much faster than mine. Is your SSD just that fast? Both of our SSD's are NVME.

Mines is an Optane it is not just a nVme... those linear burst speed everyone advertises do not matter in real life... those are useless popcorn like numbers. Optane is miles ahead in small file read/writes, it doesn't slow down when filled up and does not need some SLC caching etc... it just works like good clock. Loading a load of fragmented assets is an area where it excels even for a home user.

That is really cool. You have a fantastic build. I was going to go with a samsung ssd, but this adata was $50 cheaper and the fastest TPU reviewed ssd at the time.

Looking at the performance stats both a 5950x or a gtx 3090 would increase my average frame rate by 7 fps. This game is very very cpu bound indeed. How does SC feel on a 5950x to you?

Give the game an install. There is a whole system with 3-4 full planets to explore right now. The total playable space is massive and is only going to get bigger. Be warned though, the game is very buggy.
