Windows 11 Home setup will require you to have a Microsoft account and a working Internet connection handy. "Windows 11 Home edition requires internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account to complete device setup on first use," lists Microsoft as part of the operating system's requirements. In addition, all editions of Windows 11 will require Internet connection to receive updates, and a Microsoft Account for some tasks. "For all Windows 11 editions, internet access is required to perform updates and to download and take advantage of some features. A Microsoft account is required for some features," it adds. The requirement for Internet makes sense as Microsoft will be using Windows Update as the main medium of distributing Windows 11. It will be offered as a free upgrade for existing Windows 10 users.

What the colossal fuck?
Hell will sooner freeze than me using Microsoft account.

the writing was on the wall

since recent builds of W10 Home, if you connected to the internet instead of skipping connecting you could not continue without a MS account - had to go outside the building to escape the WiFi coverage because you do not have a back button

Windows as a Service and desktop ads are really coming.

In the leaked ISO you can just Alt+F4 the prompt to phone home and then install with a local account. Let's hope this works in the final release too. Or wait till there's some other workaround...

Now would be a good time for IBM to push Red-hat and Fedora. All they really need to do is give Wine the IBM treatment so the code is bullet proof.

IBM treatment........ yeah, bulletproof yeah but you also forgot decrepit, hard to use, and confusing AF documentation. Also IBM gives zeo Fs about the consumer space.

I'm certain people will find ways around this.

I've made a tweaked Windows 10 ISO for my own personal use that completely skips the OOBE setup and goes straight to the desktop after the initial restart. The local account is premade and even some programs I use regularly are preinstalled.

You know, just like now.

That ship sailed in the early 90's man.

Internet connection to download updates and drivers... ok. But a Microsoft account? Wtf?

It won't be long before they find a way to get around such a requirement.

Grrrrrrrrr Bollox GTFO Microcrap

It's MS way of saying F U. I'm pretty sure you have to have a MS account to install MS Office even if you get the regular version and not Office 365. There's no reason to require a customer to do this. Oh the joy of signing up for yet another account that you shouldn't need /s

Good to know as I type this on my first ever install of Linux, the Mint version. And so far I like it. Just need an alternative virtual keyboard other than the the big stupid one built in

So, Microsoft has the mainframe, and home users are getting X11 graphical terminals.

And when Windows 12 comes out, part of the registration process will involve having a boot rammed up your Hershey hole at a depth reaching to, but not exceeding, the ascending colon. Individual pain & suffering may vary. For the pro version, the boot used in the registration process will be coated liberally with pepper spray. Do we really want to know what the enterprise version entails or entrails?
Heh, whoever would've thought that it would eventually come to having a boot up one's ass just to boot up a computer?

I seriously hope they start writing more software for other operating systems so people have more choices. This nonsense with Microsoft is just getting out of hand. Next thing you know, we won't be able to start our car, truck, or use a microwave to heat something up without a Microsoft account. The way of the future seems to be when Microsoft has issues, not even toilets will flush until they fix it. But then again, who needs a toilet when they have a boot wedged up their pipe... :shadedshu:

I wonder if my Windows 10 Pro N key will have much more freedom than other versions of Windows 11... it should, since it the has N in it, which is the European protection stuff.

LOL i just used the check if you can upgrade to windows 11 tool M$ put out. says my gtx 1070 laptop can't upgrade to windows 11.

I running Linux with Wine and can run all my windows games native just fine all my apps too Office 365 teams for work. Got steam with doom and all my other games running perfect heck even faster than winblows. Microsoft made more money and was much more user friendly when they gave users the choice of what to install. Now there being like apple more and more. Windows 11 the John Deer version OS
