5600X vs 3950X

3600 vs 2700X

Neither the 3950X nor the 2700X were the top tier gaming chips of their generation. That would go to the 10900K/9900K and 8700K. I guess it isn't really all that impressive a stat when you consider that AMD only had a top tier gaming chip at all for one year out of the past 14 or so years.

Fair enough. Sometimes I can't read. The 5600X did spank the 10900K in all but a few games though.

It would be like AMD releasing a 6600X that spanks the 12900K. That didn't happen with Zen 3, 10900K was still generally faster than 5600X and 5800X. ofc at this point, I think we'll need a new gen of GPUs to see anything get spanked above 720p.

The best 5950X result under Windows: 2104/23600. 12900K is 33% faster in ST. That's impossible.

12900K results sorted by ST and MT.
5950X results sorted by ST and MT. (MacOS results are higher and probably shouldn't be taken into consideration as this OS has a different scheduler and the app is compiled slightly differently).

AL appears to clock to the moon if you can cool it from what I've seen so far. Lot of seemingly easy LN2 6.4Ghz overclocks on youtube that usually require going through several pre-binned chips. I'm gonna look up the geekbench details for that run though.

Ok that's a 5950X at 6.2Ghz.

Something not right on the 12900K, says it's running at 40Ghz

And I just can't find any DDR5 to save my life, that's the only piece I'm missing to my Alder Lake puzzle!

Anyone has any suggestions? I never expected the memory would be the hardest part to get for this new build!

Yeah, I know. :laugh: I have to keep telling myself it's only money.

Yesterday Newegg had some XPG 5200 in a combo with a board, but I just checked and they're sold out now too. All of my usual spots I just checked are also :( I'll keep an eye open and PM you if I see anything.

I Noticed you're using a D15 on your current rig.
I am running the same Z690 Board you listed and had some issues with my noctua due to the height of the VRM heatsink.

I actually dug out my old corsair H150i and slapped it on.
My U12A "ALMOST" fit and was able to screw it down but wouldnt make good contact due to touching the VRM heatsink.
I guess rotating it would have worked but would have looked kind of funny.

Thanks. I have a few others I could try - there's no info on their sites regarding fit, so I'll see what happens. I suppose this is a sign I should pick up an AIO. :rolleyes:

The reviews had 12900K running at a crazy 4.9 @ 1.3V. Optimumtech was already able to do 5.1 @ 1.21V. 12700K obviously not as well binned, but undervolting looks very promising indeed. Might be lots of power and temp to shave off through UV. I'm confident that U12A shouldn't have that much trouble after tweaks, if it doesn't hit the VRM heatsink.

Even if Asus has the LGA115x mounting holes, I'd still ask Noctua for the new 1700 kit. The Z-height seems different. Just an email away from a free kit anyways.

I currently have the U12S on a 10850k and with some voltage tweaks, It keeps it under 80c doing a Cinebench run @ ~175w. Gaming is no problem @ stock clocks with unlocked power limits I was thinking I'd try that on the 12700k so I might mount it 90 degrees in the meantime until I can find something that fits correctly. And good point on the kit from Noctua - I'll send an email off tonight.

I'm looking forward to UV on ADL - I haven't had much patience with CO on 16 cores....
 
Welp that didn't take long. 5600X still has another $90 it needs to fall but the 5800X is about right, give or take a bit. We'll see if this makes its way to Amazon soon, but I bet it does :

The 5800x is where it should have been from the beginning, and honestly, the 5600x at $199-219 would be perfect. Slot the 5600G at $169 and they'd have something for the entry level again.

The 5950x at NewEgg was $739 today, which I believe is their lowest so far.
 
It seems these E-core are unpredictable. After running a bunch of memory benchmarks, I kept getting strange results for Far Cry 5. I'm not sure why I didn't try this before but basically if I leave E-Cores enabled the FSP avg is 196 - 183. it will change every time I do the benchmark. If I disable the E-cores, it is constantly 183-184.

Looks like I'll have to toss out the Far Cry 5 benchmark for now. Its unreliable.

Yup. This is only at MC right now though, and really only the 5800X rates a good deal.

OTOH, Rocket Lake 11600K is now $199. That's only like $20 more than an 11400, a really good deal at least until 5600X price drops.

Out of 180+fps you're concerned with an average variance of 4fps? That's margin of error kind of variance. Get over it. Sorry if I seem over-critical, but the scientist in me saw the average 4fps difference and shook his head.. The FC5 benchmark is fine and valid.

I haven't seen any reviews which directly answer the question: why did Intel create and use E-cores.

The answer is simple: E-cores improve MT performance without blowing up your power budget - they are a lot more effective in terms of performance per watt in MT tasks than P-Cores.

And? What point are you trying to make with that statement?
 
Intel's victory here is not as impressive when you consider Alder lake consume much more power than AMD 5000 series CPUs, total system power draw is 100w or more with Alder lake vs Ryzen 5000, AMD since Ryzen 2000 series AMD continued to dethrone intel while also improving on efficiency , intel tryes to catch up by increase power draw to no end, with so much efficiency advantage AMD has a lot headroom to fight back.

it consumes more power, but in return it gives better performance on highly threaded productivity tests and scenarios. Gaming wise, Intel is actually more power efficient. And when idle, Intel is either same or lower power because of those E cores, and this is done with 10nm while AMD is at 7nm

AMD is more efficient without needing E cores, thats the main thing! so not only next gen Ryzen will presumably have better core than intel, but they will be all performance core and would still end up being more efficient!

But the end result being the power draw is the main thing right? Also, take a look at that 5950X 32thread vs 24thread 12900K

Also, im very curious on how it plays with RPCS3, perhaps it requires a bit of modification but i can already see it ploughing through this PS3 emulator (one of the few apps/games that takes advantage of AVX512 to boost performance)
