Technical Issues - TPU Main Site & Forum (2022)

DNS, proxies, adblockers, ISP issues, network configs (IPv4/v6?), antivirus, firewalls...

Regardless, It's not Firefox and it's not TPU. It's something about your configurations.
As much as I appreciate your input and I don't mean to offend you, I feel obliged to say that you're being unnecessarily absolute in your claims.

Also, @windwhirl already said he successfully broke it. It's not sokething unique to me.

I already said that add-ons being present or absent makes no difference (because you mentioned adblock), and as as far as all the other stuff - it's happening on both WiFi and mobile data, so it's all dynamic values there. No custom network config, it's on auto. No AV or firewall apps running.

There is a reason for that. In an effort to help W1zzard with the site, whenever someone states a problem, I try to reproduce it. I have 4 PCs, 3 laptops, 4 tablets and 3 phones at my personal disposal. I've tried to reproduce what you originally showed on my systems starting with my Android phone, then the tablets then the PCs. I tried several different versions of Firefox, with and without addons/extensions enabled. No dice. Only windwhirl reported a similar condition. In absence of anyone else reporting in, and there are a TON of Firefox users here at TPU, this is unlikely to be TPU/Firefox issues and more likely a configuration issue with your particular devices. It's very likely a glitch with the zoom function within the host OS(the specific version of Android on your phones).

Having seen glitches like this before, I am 95% certain the problem is on your devices, not FF or TPU. My level certainty is based on experience and a lack of any technical merit. So unless W1zzard is able to reproduce it and find a technical solution, you should likely try adjusting the settings on your phone, or just use a different device.

I already said it's only a problem on mobile. And while you say you haven't been able to reproduce it, I've got 100% success in 4 out of 4 mobile devices. Why should your experience outweigh mine?

Yes, the site probably has a lot of traffic. But let's think about it -- how many people run Firefox? Probably something below 5%. Out of those, how many would simultaneously:

a) be on mobile
b) have text scaling above default enabled
c) have seen the issue at all (it's not the home page, but a very particular spot on the site)
d) have an active account
e) know that there's a technical issues thread
f) know how to reproduce the issue
g) care enough to visit issues thread and report?

That all leaves a very, very narrow set of people. It's probably as edge case as it gets. I'm pretty sure windwhirl only managed to successfully reproduce the issue because he had very specific instructions on how to do it after reading this very thread, not because he encountered the issue himself. Hell, I would've never known myself if the small phone wasn't factory set to scale texts or if I'd just used Chrome.

So unless W1zzard is able to reproduce it and find a technical solution, you should likely try adjusting the settings on your phone, or just use a different device.
Or I could just use Chrome, because that isn't affected.

Should we continue with this useless bickering or should we just wait for W1zzard to chime in?

On mobile? Probably less than that. It's still worth fixing.

My biggest issue is reproducing it .. iPhone user here :)

It shouldn't. But if only one person can reproduce the problem you're having, that problem is unlikely to be a FireFox or TPU problem and very much more likely to be specific to your devices.

This.

But also this and...
My biggest issue is reproducing it
This.

If only one other user can reproduce it, finding a solution is like looking for a needle in a haystack 1 kilometer cubed without the advantage of a magnet. Finding a solution for this issue is not going to be practical.
Or I could just use Chrome, because that isn't affected.
And there we are. Though I would recommend Brave instead. It doesn't spy on or track you.

On a specific users profile there is security issues on it, also the name has a drop shadow on it, so you cant view system specs.

mworthyc is the users name.

I dont see anything like that here

Where is the Help or instructions on how to use or understand what the TS Bench results mean and what I can change please?

Thanks.

I also couldn't update mine but worked on second attempt.

You're better off asking in the ThrottleStop subforum

I have never used it though, so I can't say much else.

I found a completely white profile banner, which causes XF to apply a black border around the username for better contrast.
For testing I removed it and everything looks normal now.

Which security issue did you find?

@mworthyc thoughts? sorry for deleting your profile background, didn't consider saving it first so I can restore

I checked that too yesterday. It threw a security error message (such as when you try to interact with the forums in ways that require you to be logged in, such as posting or reacting to messages, but are not actually logged in due to cookies being too old).

It seems to be fine now, though.

Yeah it's fixed now, because even clearing cookies didnt fix it.

I'm unable to paste url-links into messages or posts, don't know if it has to do me being on mobile or not, but I guess something is broken.

I saw the following a few moment ago.
TPU-PrivateMessageHeader.jpg

The PM in question was a user asking about a technical aspect of the NVidia Desktop Manager. Perfectly innocent.

However, that warning makes me wonder: Should we users be worried about scammers on TPU?

This is no longer a big deal, but a few months ago people registered, posted GPU sales and wanted crypto payment upfront.
Or registered, replied to posted deals and wanted to pay with stolen $$

This warning only shows for users with <x posts

In other news, has anyone noticed how well our servers are running since we moved? Everything humming along nicely

Ok, good to know.

It has been a delightful experience! Pages load quickly and no glitches. Your new host seems to be excellent!

Nothing wrong to report.

I do get logged out rather frequently (every couple of days or so), but that's likely a glitch on my side due to Firefox running with stricter privacy controls than normal.

Additionally, my Firefox configuration is set to report version 100, so I'm not sure if that might break something else (though outside of the logouts, the forums work perfectly for me).

Like it.

Works perfectly for me, I haven't entered my PW on TPU for months, using FF too, with standard privacy controls, but +adblock +ghostery +ublock +idontcareaboutcookies

palemoon (firefox derivative) reporting in.
cookies set to autoclear, but exception set for TPU.
ip's static (using my server as proxy).
haven't been logged out for uhm ... half a year or something now?

Yup, very snappy. And this is on the work laptop running through a VPN no less. It's even better on my home PC with no VPN.
