GTX 1060 revive

So the story of the problem, i got a gtx 1060 6gb for repair. After looking around in it the components undamaged and power up fine, but for some reason every PC flags the components as separate hardver, (PCI proccesing unit, Pci memory controll unit, and Pci bus comm), motherboard chipsets, drivers etc are up to date, so i figured the problem could be with the VGA bios.

The question is: How do i flash a VGA bios, when the card itself is not recognised as a VGA, also the only pc i can work on atm run on a dedicated graphics card, so there is the added: Flashing the PCI-e 0 , not the PCI-e 1 qestion.
 
The same story revised so far 2000 times.
Send it back to the miner, and get refund.

try getting a GPU-Z screen shot (like this)

then pull the card, tear it down so you can take pics of the pcb, gpu (gunk cleaned off) and vram chips showing their numbers/markings.

which others can (hopefully) identify.

Was probably used for Mining, still it was free, so i inted to as least try to bring it back to life.
Start with sticker pics from cardback,then apic of a ram chip silk screen

XpertVision is whats on the card
 
So, neither gpuz could make sense of what the card is, looking into the serial numbers, it's a Palit GTX1060 6gb dual. Idk if the GPU number is visible so it's:gp106-400-a1.
On secound look the vram number is barely visible too, it's 8da47d9tcb
 
As i said even gpuz didn't detect the card, it was the gtx 1050, i wanted to show on the picture that it didn't show up on the GPU select list.

This bios matches the part number on your gpu


These match via Device ID SubSystem ID to the 2 bios above.



Just look at 1506/2002/1709

And the newest date under Palit and Gainward categories

Gonna try to flash it tomorrow, if not working, i'll check the datasheet for the BIOS chip and whip out the oscilloscope on the weekend.

Yep, since i work as a vehicle electrician, most of the tools needed for electronics are at hand. Im kinda confident i could replace a biger component like a cap or a BIOS chip, tho if a Micro resistor died that's gonna be a Hard nope from Me.

Gpus are smd units today, so caps rest on pads as well
 
Sounds like it could be a fake card.

Yeah smds are Hard to solder, tho on even the ring mounts are the same thicness, can't even count how many Times i've been asked to fix incinerated mounts, not that it's possible.
 
The PCB is Legit bro, Gainward/Palit.
OH yeah just rememebered, since every video,post or forum post i found only cover the: How to flash the plugged in GPU, and khm... i don't have integrated GPU, sooo i have 2 cards pluged in. How do you select which card to flash in nvflash?
 
If you have the gtx1060 in the first PCI-e slot and PCI/other graphics card in the second, the GTX1060 is the "0" card (business as usuall, just nvflash bios.rom and you're set), otherwise it may be the "1" card by count.

the gtx1050 is the "0", i tried to use the "nvflash --list" command to see how it listed in the program, but got no response other than windows asking for premission.

Okay, looks like even nvflash can't see the bios, all the components recognised separately. The bios chip is responsible for identification and unification, i guess i'll start with that. Idk if someone interested of Me sufferig trough this procces, i can keep the post updated.

what is your setup may i ask you? I mean the motherboard and cpu you are using, its weird how in the devices list there are mentions of both intel 300 series and 200 series (even though these chipsets belong to different generations).

It Was an asrock z370 pro4, i3-8100 and sadly died today as i was goin to work, for some reason it started shutting down memory slots then the bios colapsed, so im gonna have to replace it then test the GPU again in case it was a falut at the mother board.

Possible but doubt it, it was a 6 years old board and shown signs of wear, a month ago it kept freezing, with the ASRock logo gliching into the display, it stoped after a bios flash, but im surprised it held out this long, also correct Me if im wrong (im Just guessing) but if the GPU was at fault the PCI would've been the fist to go, but Both are functional.

I guess this was to be expected since it comes up not as a videocard but rather as its components.
Try if you can access/read/save the current BIOS on the card somehow. , if not your best bet is to flash the BIOS with an external programmer.

I found the data sheet for the BIOS chip, i think the fist i'll be checking is the power lines, tho looking at it it's a 0.5v system, so DVOM is out of the picture (most voltometers emmit a small voltage while mesuring, surprisingly enough to power up a smaller LED if that hits a chip it could damage it) then, power up signal (if thats missing the whole system goes into sleeping mode), and the signal output (identification and instructions, tho be aware it's the same line where the other components request instructions upon startup). Ither than that the is WP (write protection) , Hold# (system pause signal if on) and SCK (data in/output syncronizer, if not working, all component start to send signal at the same time, mixing commands/requests).
