I had the same issue with an ebay seller in the past. sent me a board that was advertised to be working. When i got it, it didnt work. Bent pins and thermalpaste in the CPU socket.

he kept saying it worked but i showed him pictures of how i received it. wasnt interested in taking it back so i opened up a claim with ebay and there was a lot of back and forth from him about how i could 'repair the bent pins' myself. I didnt buy the board to do a self repair. at first he was happy to give me a partial refund but i wanted a full refund and a full refund is what i got.

The seller had the audacity to leave negative feedback calling me a scammer

::EDIT::

I did actually have to send the board back to the seller just so he could confirm the board was working as advertised.

It's not the best of places to buy used computers unless you can pickup locally as a lot of sellers won't know to package them up securely and then use a cheap courier with no insurance who will play basketball with it en-route

@Greenslade it's always worth doing basic checks on something dead, especially as it's usually a power problem. One easy thing to do is to gently remove the power connectors from the mobo, check them over and gently connect them again. Extend this to anything else that looks like it could do with a quick check.

Also try another mains cable, as the fuse could be blown. Do this first.

If it still doesn't work after basic checks, then get your money back. I know it's a PITA, but it can't be helped. It's quite possible that the seller tried scamming you into buying a dud. It's the risk of fraud why I seldom trade on eBay and then only with established businesses with a good reputation.

That's what I would do also, and check and reseat ram, GPU, CPU etc also check the switches on the back of the PSU I know it seems obvious but iirc old ATX power supplies used to have a manual switch for 120v/240v depending where you live.

Point being it could be any number of things hence trouble shooting the basics to save you the hassle of returning it straight away

Ok here it is £40 I am surprised ir does not work. And very disapointed that i have to send it back as it is a big beast :(I will jave to buy some packing tape .He did pack it well. TheTam is in well, surely i should at least get a light or something?o_O
Vintage Desktop PC Windows XP AMD Sempron 2400+ 512mb ram, DVD-RW drive, tower case, working well.
Motherboard is Winfast K7S741MG/K7S741 6L
I've put a fresh install of XP on this unit but this is just to show the machine working - it is only an evaluation copy, not activated. The machine has only been used offline since xp is no longer supported with antivirus etc...This means that not all of the drivers are loaded and will need updating - see last pic #

Yes you are right there ,a quite a few sellers say collolection only, and this seller said that to, but did say free shippong. If .I was selling Hifi goods and pc s i would say colliction only. The side panal came like this see photo. It is very flimsy though.I can,t see it like that in here photo. That must have happened on the delivery.Your right about delibery drives we have all seen the videos..I will check all that out it just has a switch for on and off..Yes it will be a pain to send it back ,with packing it and taking it the post office or where ever to send it back as i don,t drive.

PCs of this era were also very susceptible to earthing. so it might be worth bread boxing the motherboard (or loosening the screws and shifting it about abit before screwing it down again) to see if that changes anything. The pc could have taken a knock in transit that shifted the board inside.

otherwise maybe try testing with a different PSU

OK - I'm confused here.
You say it doesn't work but it looks to be working, looks to be a power LED lit on the front of the case and in one of the pics I can see the blur of the CPU fan so that means it's spinning, plus the screenie of it's specs on a computer screen (Pup-Sysinfo Hardware Report).

Are you saying it doesn't work period (As in it does nothing at all) or it's not wanting to load an OS?

Are pics from the seller or did you take those to post?

On the positive side, you didn't need to return item, which can quickly sour the deal. Not sure about you, but for some random parts shipping (even in EU) can be ~25-60 EUR + import fee (usually around 15-25 EUR). If it was ~50 EUR part and I could only get refund with return, I might as well just don't. C19 pandemic basically made eBay a betting site.

This seller has been on eBay for over 20 years all good feedback all be it has not sold much.I think he should have said collection only as was in the listing .I was surprised he did not charge for shippong.I am with you if it says it is working it should work,I have never had a problem with getting a refund for something that does not work.As for leaving negative feedback i thought sellers could not do that.

If you plan to swap out the power supply just remember you'll need plenty of amps on the +5v rail. :D

A Sempron and a mid tier AGP card should be okay with a more modern PSU. Worth a try anyway!
