Morning everyone.

Can you recommend me some single player games to relax? not the Sims or simulators please. I have Train Simulator World installed and while it's cool it feels like a chore sometimes, and the missions are overly LONG, like there's a route in the UK that takes you 4 actual hours to complete, while I like it and the trains, playing for 4 hours straight without saving is just a no-go for me.

I like adventure and fantasy games but it'd be nice to avoid fighting hordes of enemies and grinding hours for a single item (looking at you Minecraft) while exploring, also space/sci-fi games, I've played No Man's Sky for a while and didn't like it, couldn't find the point of the game like there's no campaign or anything you have to guess your way through it and the learning curve is too steep.

How come there aren't more police or detective kind of games out there? L.A. Noire style, I loved it because of how unique the gameplay was. Same with Mirror's Edge.
I'm playing Control right now and it feels like a mixture of Prototype and the og Far Cry, it's fine, just not chill.

I don't like: 2D platformers, micromanaging units everywhere, anime games or VNs.

Graphics and age of the game are mostly irrelevant, it's fine as long as it can run on a modern computer without too much extra downloads (emus, patches, etc.)

One of the most chill games I ever played was Osmos, but it might not be what you're after. Maybe the Ori games? they're mellow but can be quite challenging and less chill at times.

I actually play Roboquest lately to chill out, I find it thoroughly relaxing and chill (helped by a soundtrack I really enjoy) no real mission objectives or things to worry about, just running and gunning, good stuff.

There are definitely more, I'll post them as I remember them,

If you haven't tried Stardew Valley yet, it's a fantastic game. And if having a specific amount of time to get things done per day is stressful, you can get mods to change time of day. It's my top 10 best games ever.

How about Apex Legends? Sorry, just joking!

Okay, more serious now. Maybe puzzles or story driven titles? In no particular order:

Myst
Disco Elysium
Paradise Killer
The Medium
Stray
Outer Wilds
In Other Waters
Portal
and Portal 2
Manifold Garden
Journey
Islands: Non-Places
Flower
Sable

The Tomb Raider series is story driven, especially the rebooted trilogy (starting in 2013). Sure, Lara Croft has to fight sometimes but it's not one boss fight after another.

The Subnautica titles have some crafting, not sure if it's too much for you. They are visually appealing though.

Freelancer with some high res mods. The sense of exploration in that game is amazing. There wil be fighting, and at times lots of it, but it's not cumbersome as the mouse controls are pretty great. It's such a great game.

Oh I had plants vs zombies years ago lol

I find Papers, please a bit unpleasant, it reminds me of real life and how living in a decadent commie republic feels. Lots of things are relatable, the lottery, how the government officials coerce people into doing what they want or else they cut off their food rations, the criminals trying to enter with fake or stolen papers so they can evade police in their own countries, and so on. It's a very depressing game if you think about it, just like real life.

One of my fav games, I had it on my old PC together with Homeworld. There's a Homeworld 2 too but I never got too far in it, story feels a bit generic as in every mission is "go here, shoot these guys, capture that checkpoint" not like the first game and expansions at all.

If it doesn't veer too close to the sim side of things, do consider giving Satisfactory a try.

Like some have said Stray. you could try Everspace 2 as you could just fly around the Space they have and do a mission when you feel like.

And after that, I'd recommend Dreamfall. Probably Dreamfall Chapters as well but I haven't finished it, seemed pretty good though.

Dreamfall was really good. I haven't played Chapters. I heard it's not that good but I may try it anyway one day.

The Developer warned potential buyers that the game didn't hold your hand and they were right. It's pretty tough at times but it is a good game imo.

I've looked for The Longest Journey several times already prior to this as it looks really neat but couldn't find any download links, it simply wasn't uploaded anywhere, or it was a long time ago but the links are long gone now. See, I can't pay for Steam, or any platform for the matter, it's a long story but imagine a game is $10, I'd have to pay those $10 but also an additional 106% in taxes to the government, and it's not as easy as doing 10+106% because the taxes aren't calculated all at the same time, once again long story. I don't even have a card that's compatible with international services.

Do I have to play it to understand Dreamfall?

The hunter call of the wild. Walking simulator as much as a hunting game.

Also go back and play old adventure games. Day of the tentacle, Sam and max, Monkey Island etc.

Doom eternal is very chill. You get to travel to new worlds and listen to a nice soundtrack, the locals are friendly too - always trying to introduce themselves.

Can you recommend me some single player games to relax?
In general I've found these quite relaxing. Stardew Valley saves at the start of each day, the others will save at any time (eg, manually or upon quitting):-

- Banished
- Firewatch
- Stardew Valley
- The Planet Crafter (In dev)
- The Witness
- To The Moon (+ sequel Finding Paradise)

I like adventure and fantasy games...

How come there aren't more police or detective kind of games out there?
If you like adventure games with a detective theme, then:-

- Blackwell Series (Wadjet Eye Games)
- Disco Elysium
- Inspector Waffles
- Kathy Rain
- Lacuna
- Paradise Killer
- Return Of The Obra Dinn
- Sam & Max (3x Series + Hit The Road)
- The Darkside Detective 1 & 2
- The Last Door 1 & 2
- Unavowed
- The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter
- Whispers Of A Machine
