upgrading from 2700X to 5900X on a MSI B450M Mortar

Idk if a cpu has been bought but In actuality, if You can get a 5800 OEM for less than a 5700X, go for it because they are exactly the same CPU. Also the mobo you have supports 3466 Ram via AMP, it may go higher with manual overclocking but that board would need good power phasing for the cpu and ram. A 5900 is still a viable option along with the 58003D.
Where would I get a "5800 OEM"? I'm hoping to find a good deal tonight/tomorrow.

The 5800 and 5900 are not retail CPUs. Only from Ebay or retailers that get their hands on tray CPUs. Same deal with the 4650G and 4750G originally at their release.

Tray Ryzens are only warrantied by the OEM whose computers they're meant to be installed into. It just depends how much value you place on that. My 4650G is still going strong, but recently a few people with 5800X3Ds haven't been so lucky (sudden death). My 3700X was hanging on by a thread by the time I got rid of it, and I did have to RMA my failing 5700G.

Somehow I get the feeling that you'll find some sort of good deal on a retail Vermeer CPU anyway on Friday.

Best perf/€ seems to be the 5700X, but it's also the slowest of the bunch...

If you get even a half decent 5700X, you should still be able to hit up to 4850MHz lightly threaded boost. Clocks don't really matter much in games for these CPUs, least of all the X3D which just doesn't care. X3D price in euros still seems kinda pricey

Unless the 5800X is outright cheaper than the 5700X, I'd leave it out of the running. All you're getting is a more CPU that must be tweaked for reasonable thermals+efficiency, and *might* allow you a shot at hitting 5GHz PBO for e-peen. For all-core loads 5700X and 5800X are basically the same. Extra power =! extra headroom

Are these all black friday pricing?

(fps capped to 75 in the game pic coz im just working on something but it does the same uncapped)

3.0-4.6GHz vs 3.4-4.7, 100MHz at top doesnt make much difference. 3.0 aint no slower than 3.4 in menial tasks.

Last year I got what I thought was a 5800X on ebay and got a 5800, I called the guy out for false advertisement, had the chip tested at microcenter to ensure it wasnt doa or would fry a motherboard. He gave me $100 back for the chip originally being 362, So I only paid 262 in the end and told him be honest about them.

The oem chip are great

Yes. The minimum recorded price for the 5700X was ~221€ on the 22nd of November, but I missed it.

I can never find those OEM models cheap here, their availability varies wildly around the globe

5800x3D is down to $499Au, while a 5600 is $199
without a top tier GPU, I cant say the gaming difference would be worth it

5700X at 230€ with shipping and a Company of Heroes 3 key. I just need to find someone that buys the key for 30€ and I'll hit my "target price"

Global key, and steam?

Hey guys.
I ordered a 5700X (and 32gb 3600mhz cl16 RAM kit). It should arrive sometime next week, but I'll probably only set it up next weekend.
Meanwhile I'm planning in running some benchmarks to compare with the old and new setup. Any suggestions?
I looked at this list and I plan to run the built-in benchmarks of the following games:
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Borderlands 3 (I also own 2)
  • GTA V
  • Metro Last Light Redux
I think I have more games from the list (I'm pretty sure I got one of the Civ games from EGS), so feel free to give some recommendations.
I know I'm (very) limited due to the 1060 but at least it'll serve as a "baseline", i.e. If performance gets worse I'll know something is wrong.

If you have them, try out some of these:

Halo Infinite
Far Cry 5
DOTA 2
Anno 1800

Those were some of the more CPU-limited titles based on the 5800X vs 5800X3D review.

Unfortunately I don't own any of those.

Geez. And I'm having an impossible time getting 4.5. What sorta CO did you use? Am at -15, -20 crashes (-5 on best cores).

What do you mean by 4.5? 4.6 is the default. Mine with the settings from the pics is boosting to 4850 but max FCLK 1867, anything higher and i get WHEA, (that was in win10 ive upgraded to 11 but havent tested higher)

Edit: You need to check each core, you can have 1 bad core and the rest could work with -30, some cores of mine can do -30 or -28 some -22 i think but i went safe way and gave them some breathing room and i got bored to tune them by "1". my Core 0 sucks and i cant get good scores with CPU-Z benchmark as CPU-Z is using the first core i think for single core testing :) is still boosting to max but it throttles fast i think.

4.5 all core is practically impossible for me, but I see your CO is considerably higher yeah, might be that. I crash at -20 inmediatly lol
Are you doing "ALL CORE OC" ? I am not , i have everything on AUTO and i only enabled PBO / AutoOC +200 , you can see the settings in the pictures.

Edit: I dont even have great cooling and its boosting allcore 4.6+ in Cinebench 23 / score 15850 .

No. I'm doing just CO and PBO limits. CO -20 and -5 on best cores will crash upon entering Windows. Luck of the draw I guess, I validated -15 to be fully stable, trying the range between -15 and -19 seems like a very tiresome thing to do, tbh.

AutoOC here just ends up with lower all core speeds for me.

Try doing it with RAM at default speed first and run something like CoreCycler , i think that is what ive used and it tells you the cores that cant handle the load and you can adjust CO for them from windows with PBO tunner, i think your CPU should boost higher even if its not a great silicon, do you have last BIOS ? Did you try a full BIOS reset? My motherboard was weird after i changed the CPU and i had to do a CMOS clear and installed last BIOS version (i was on some BETA).

Latest BIOS, new motherboard even now. Old one did about the same. Max speed I can get is 4370MHz on CB23 and 4510MHz on Prime95 stress test. Cooler does alright, about 78C under load.

I guess a better cooler would do a bit better, but that's about all I can get. It draws 124W doing so.

also we've gone OT, oops.

id guess at cooling is poss a factor, isnt a 212 just a standard 120mm tower cooler? i have a twin fan 140mm tower on my 5700x and with just pbo enabled i hit around 74c in R23 and score around 15,200
hits 4650mhz usually for around 10 secs then drops to 4.4/4.5mhz.

dont forget max boost isnt normally what you get the whole time. , on my last cpu max was 4.2mhz but it usually only hit 4.0/4.1 most of the time.
