Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (Professional and Enterprise) will officially no longer receive so-called Extended Security Updates from today, Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

So even the people cheating their way into support (or less often, paying) are now on a ticking timebomb. Well, best of luck to them, we should hope. It's still plenty safe for an offline rig of course.

Hi,
I've been using the so called 7 "ticking time bomb" everyday since eol I dare the bomb maker to try something

Survivorship bias is a helluva drug. Good luck.

In addition to ending the additional support period for the affected operating systems, support for Microsoft Edge on Windows 7 and 8.1 will also end soon.
Microsoft Edge version 109 is the latest browser update for the legacy software; after that, the browser will continue to function but no more security and feature updates will be released.
This can cause security and compatibility issues. This is reportedly happening with Google Chrome in February as well.

Just updated my laptop from 7 to 10 this morning coincidentally. Though it's not like I ever ran updates on 7 anyway because it never worked.

Going from a 5400 rpm hdd to a sata ssd was quite the jump.

I just Googled it and it is reported that 11% of the PCs worlwide are still using Windows 7.
Incredible.

That was my biggest windows 7 bug... Never ending searching for updates....

I uninstalled 7 for the last time in something like 2017 when 10 was actually working better for the hardware I was running at the time.

I loved 7 as much as anyone, but time marches on. I do have 11 installed too, but I seem to use 10 more.

Ahh, I still have a couple of ole nostalgic systems that are running 7 but rarely put them on the network.

As for the long wait time for 7 to find updates, I just usually download all the updates to a disk and install them that way.

I knew that all the support for 7 would end, so having all the updates on disk ensures I can install them even after support has ended and I don't have to do the waiting game with 7 trying to find updates.

Hi,
No good or bad luck involved
I use many os's linux mint/ 11/ 10/ and 7 so no biggie think I know which I still like best
Good security and browser add-ons and it's all good in all of them ;)

Why do I feel when older people or just stupid people *Think they must upgrade to the next version when Microsoft reports this

Just installed the final ESU on my secondary rig. Got a few retro systems running Win7, and one with a Phenom II X4 in quasi-regular use.

I like tinkering with older hardware. Win7 runs great on it while being compatible with most newer software. Knowing the approaching end of extended support, I recently created a fresh Win7 installation on a dedicated disk. I used a pendrive with slipstreamed updates until January 2020 (end of regular support). I will now install the pending ESU and clone this disk whenever I want to experiment with nostalgic components.

Incredible.

It's a great OS and better than 10 or 11 in most ways still. Behind NAT with latest browser version and anti virus it's no less secure for home users either...

Problem is software support disappearing. Last machine I used with 7 gone to 10 Enterprise though still have 7 on dual boot.

I can't say I have any feelings for 8 and 8.1, but 7 is a bummer. Probably the best Windows so far. Oh well, at least we still have 10. When we see the same news about 10, that's when the horsemen of the apocalypse start riding in.

To all who forgot and will use LINK

It is NOT my main PC, but it will still be on the NET (not active much anymore). I don't use Google or Edge so I'm not worried
about it at all. No "online games or Apps" and I never have security problems. I don't see a problem with using it if its not for
anything business related or personal (NO Email) or Log-In use. I just keep Malwarebytes close. I've done it for years.
It is another STALKER-with-Mods PC so it is too important to put W10 on it :D

If.... M$.... Releases another Framework other then today's 7.0.2 then I ask why and we shall continue to use 7! All Hell WiN7

That's not .NET Framework, it's just .NET 7 now. .NET Framework is no longer actively developed and stopped at version 4.8.x

So they changed the name so what. All my frameworks and now .Net are 40-100+MBs sizes. I didn't know they changed but no big deal

The best PC games are from around WinXP era

Win7 come free with WinXP mode preactivated

Win10 and Win11 have WinXP mode?

Just completed playing Quest for Glory 4 Shadows of Darkness , will try Full Throttle soon

I mean wasn't that just VM? but they have compatible mode but I know that's not the same and that feature never worked in some situations so ah ha

I still got 1 PC and 1 Laptop running W7 as 10 runs like complete pooo! on them and my parents PC's are all W7 and wont bother changing them till there is something that wont work on them.

You will be missed 7, you was the best! and run so much faster and snappier then 10 even on my current Gaming PC.
