Because I'm bad with names and couldn't come up with anything better (true story)

I like the name - its catching

I might have gone with

It's also why we have nvcleanstall.

Honestly the name techpowerup has grown on me though... has a 90s vibe... lol

The name has always made sense to me. It's recognized all over PC gaming and hardware sites and often I see video card benchmarks and GPU-Z screen shots posted everywhere I go. Even TPU is clearly recognized to refer to this site.

As it turns out the name was a fortunate choice because TPU has a tech ring to it kind of like GPU and CPU.

Now we only need a TPU-Z... :D

I almost can't believe it. :) I mean, trying to register unique Youtube name and gotta say English/Latin/Spanish are quite used with words the SEO can recognize. Shooting out a brand name that will last is kind of a feat lately IMO. Time has come non-existing words are also sought after.

I like Techpowerup better, it reminds me of RPG systems in games, but for tech - in hindsight, maybe this is subliminal messaging causing me to upgrade my rig every year... jk haha

I never realized this, but you are right!!! Nice spotting good sir!

Out of curiosity - why this name?

Waited a quick minute to ask the question. :D

I think it space less and with the exclamation point really does add something to the name. “Yeah I spend way too much time on TechPowerUp! it’s a great site”
Iconic

exclamation point
The exclamation point was removed when we switched from the green logo to the red logo many years ago, to make us look a bit more serious/professional

@W1zzard - don't even think about apologising for the name you chose. It works, it's unique, and it's nerdy. It's perfect, and if anybody thinks they can offer a better title for this awesome website, I'll perma-bam those clueless mofos. TPU forever!

Name is good, nice vibe, and suits what the site is about which is hardware releases and discussions related to that.

The yellow dot could be have left out.
Then it would have been technically incorrect, the worst kind of incorrect. tech Power Up!.com is euro-dork anno mid 2000's, tech Power Up!com is just weird. It was the dotcom era, not the com era.

Because it's bada$$ to pick up a powerup and start shooting 3 projectiles instead of 1, that's why :rockout:

That logo reminds me of anime from the 80's or 90's not in a bad way of course.
