I am planning to paint the silver external casing of a device black. The end piece has a slight shine, so I suppose I need to use some fine sandpaper to break that shine. I was wondering if there are any specific paints that I should use or avoid. My intention is to make the device look more fitting for the installation. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

What is the existing material? Plastic , brushed Aluminium , or 18/10?

Comes off as a brushed aluminum. I am not sure. The Asus specs do not share this kind of information.

Does is get hot? If so I would not paint it.
The bare metal helps with heat dissipation.

It’s aluminum.

It has NVMe drives in it that run hot. Painting it will only make it hold heat instead of effectively dissipating it. Also, sanding and painting it will likely void the warranty. The best thing to do is leave it alone and install it as is.

Thank you. I purchased a second one, second hand. I will leave it alone.

Thank you so much!

The alternative, which also is likely to impact functionality, is anodizing in the desired color.

Not sure if this is possible after full installation by manufacturer.

Single slot beauty. :D
