What's your latest tech purchase?

I'd be interested to know what your GPU temps will be like, as I've got the same case and my 3080 FE is literally cooking itself to death right now
Did you take the filters out?

Got one in my drawer as well, collecting dust mainly :), but that's because I have a DVD drive on my desktop.
Haven't had one in my desktop for close to a decade.

Is a Medion, with a MS-xxxx board. Not the best. But cant complain for free
So it's a MSI OEM board. Wonder that does it have hidden options, Gigabyte had in OEM boards back in the day.

Haven't had one in my desktop for close to a decade.
I have a Fractal Focus G in one of my builds with a SATA DVD-ROM (I was blown away that they made SATA read-only DVD drives but it's from a HP machine) so I can play my older physical games with it. :)

A year after my build I'm going into VR!

Following the rules of pics or it's not true. (I'm posting the photos attached. Terrible laptop this is.)

I have the Index Knuckles and both Lighthouses. However, I am not getting the Index HMD. I'm going with the Pimax Crystal and I'll post photos of it when it arrives.

Photo three I had the kids help pick up. Moved all of it to a better place. I do have a decent space to play around with around 10x10 feet (3 meters). I'm running the HMD cable on the ceiling due to well, kids...

You also need a washing machine I see.....

You may need a bigger one then.. :D
Too much money, gotta fix it all the time due to incorrect weight distribution by the kids.

You're not supposed to put the kids in it.

Same - think the last time I had an optical drive was 3, maybe 4 full rebuilds ago. Windows Vista era.

The original BioShock was one of the last games I bought on disc. That I can remember, anyway.

If one is working in the pharmacy and delivering data at the pharmacy also today one has to deliver on a DVD/BR. The law enforcement (FDA/EMA) charges for that.

Because sometimes things still come on a disc and you can't get just readers any more, or at least not this cheap.

I don't build PC's without an optical drive of one type or another.

That's just crazy. How do you do backups?

Online and on removable HDDs/SSDs. If I need to move files I've got multiple 256GB USB sticks and a 1TB NVMe drive in an enclosure if something really big needs to move fast. Optical media has been dead to me for a long, long time.

I still have a optical drive on one PC. For when the need comes up. I used it recently to gets some 16 bit games working on a build. Its a blue-ray burner so I can back up with it. I also have a server and I do cold back ups via a 14 Tb and 8Tb USB drives. (When I think about it)

the last time i used an optical drive was probably my Dell M1530 laptop (pre-historic donkey-dino years ago)

Although i admit i still have a good collection of CDs stacked up for the media wall aesthetic. Held onto our VHS tapes too. Actually bought some fancy rainbow colour like paper covers for them some years ago to give the room a little colour but removed them some time ago (personal reasons - no nosey parkers pls)

Back to optical drives... ain't used them but got a bunch of old system scraps ready for re-purposing (or building sky scrapers)

Oh okay. So do you use blu-ray's for backups? Do you have like tower stacks of cd's? ;)

I use a NAS, and one hdd I keep in a safe off-site ;) But I never do backups of windows, I only backup personal data/games/mods etc.

Yes, I do. You can joke, but I'm serious. And as these are a recent purchase, they're on topic too!

And once recorded, this is one of the folders I store them in;

So yeah, optical discs are still useful and relevant, regardless of those who may not still agree. As an example, the discs shown for Wolfenstein 2(yes I'm aware I misspelled) are still faster to copy from than the game is to redownload(and I have fiber internet). I think people NOT utilizing optical media is just crazy.

That's not a bad plan for backups. If it works for you, more's the better.
