It's not necessarily addiction. I, for example, don't have a TV subscription because I find it useless. I just watch tons of science and cooking shows on Youtube to learn. Could I live without Youtube? Of course. But my quality of life would be a lot worse without it. A window to the world would close, so to speak.Most of the people who will complain about being forced to watch ads will still continue to use youtube. They are the addicted ones and Google knows that.
Before anybody starts, I'd be happy to watch an ad or two before my video starts if that's all it was. What I object to are interruptions every 5 minutes, 20-30 second unskippable ads, and the general idea of annoying the public into paying for the service instead of offering something of value in the premium package. It's basically a protection racket within legal bounds.
Not to mention that the subscription service as a business model sickens me to the core, but that's a different topic altogether.
