some weird OEM like driver where the radeon software has not even an "update" button, a build with Anti Lag + and no overclocking settings.
DDU, restart, install latest driver, reboot and reconnect with internet = imediately against my will (registry, ShutUp10, wushowhide, rollback...) no chance.
happens on three independent systems with different GPUs and operating systems. (laptop with W11 Pro and RDNA2, PC with W10 Home and a 6800XT and a W11 Pro system with a 7800XT)
anyone else having this issue? never happened in my whole life. until now.

well that doesn't work. imediately reinstalls it
Yeah it's these kind of crappy bugs that make people choose the other brand. But I also think this is a problem with Microsoft as well.

this is obviously windows.
all systems began at the exact same minute with this bullshit... can't even play games anymore.

Install drivers you wish to keep, then use group policy to force Windows to keep those specific drivers. Windows 10 is a joke in this regard!

noo. just gpedit - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Windows Update - Manage updates offered from Windows Update - Do not include drivers - ENABLED.
Simple.

Does. Not. Work.
That's odd, as I've been using this to keep Windows update from over-writing the 3rd party Amernime AMD drivers on multiple systems for a long time now and have never had a problem since. I've also used it on machines with specific Nvidia driver versions that I wish to keep around without those being over-written and still no problems.

god this is brutal. I am getting anxiety pains just reading this thread.

I think this can happen if you update your drivers using the non-WHQL drivers. I had this happen on my main system a few times with my RX 5700. I usually notice when windows replaced my driver because options are missing in Adrenalin UI. I've tried using Device Manager to specifically choose the driver I want and that works sometimes but Adrenalin UI was still missing options until I reinstalled that version.

Since I resorted to only installing WHQL versions of Adrenalin I haven't had the problem since but it bothers me Windows doesn't give the user more visible control to prevent this behavior and you have to go out of your way to do some Group Policy or hack to stop it from happening. Also it's pretty terrible that the company that created the driver installation package can't seem to properly provide the method to clean the system of the driver and 3rd party solutions are required.

OP, I would try cleaning the existing driver from your system then reinstall the last WHQL version of the driver and see if that works better for you.

i don't understand why is it so hard to get that this driver gets force installed over EVERYTHING.
you DDU wipe, reboot, install the latest WHQL driver... and it imediately overwrites it with this shitty broken driver.
people in the AMD forum have the same issue since today as well. you can't do anything about it it seems.

Have you tried to directly change out the driver in Device Manager? It should show two drivers. One that you installed and one that windows installed.

yes. it installs it just fine and imediately removes it again. (across all systems) my brothers work pc with a 5700XT does it as well.

On a less serious note: All I can speculate is there must be some switch at Microsoft like it's tagged to force fix systems with AMD gpus. Maybe 3 letter agencies are looking for somebody.

Do you have a spare disk to try fresh install of windows?

good thing i extirpated the autoupdate capability from all my systems

they have planned to implement "drag and drop" from the start menu to the desktop within the first 3 years of the W11 launch. i am surprised that they don't auto install intel arc drivers for my radeon.

someone in france now with the same issue:

Do you have instructions? Auto update drives me nuts with my plex server.

I just have it set to manually update in AMD software, never had any issues like this and I even skipped a couple of drivers recently. I am on windows 10 though, 11 is more aggressive from what I understand,

i never had this issue in my whole 23 years of owning a PC... it started at exactly midnight on the 16th (for me now yesterday) across all systems.
this is a bug not a feature.

yeah windows did a big patch update two days ago, i updated all the computers in the house. no issues here though. I am on the latest AMD drivers when I did the update, so I guess it just read it as dont need to update AMD? no idea whats going on

just recently have had 5700 ZERO ISSUES, lol

I have these same updates in Windows update logs, however the update button in the Radeon software is enabled as are all other functions, using gpedit should allow you to disable forced driver updates, once you set the policy, use DDU to completely remove all AMD GPU drivers and install the latest build or the driver version of your choice.

Well, it could be worse. :D There are reports about people getting their Windows license deactivated after the last update & locked out of Windows, lol.

To your problem, did you check that automatic driver updates are deactivated? Here's a guide:

If this doesn't cut it you could go full nuclear and disable Windows update completely:

GerKNG: Gaming session, let's GO! Windows: no, you're not. Get out and get some fresh air.
